Man that column heading towards 7th Cavalary is going to be bad. I hope the weather clears in time for better air support. There is probably a couple of thousand troops in that coming towards US troops.

"About two hours later, U.S. jets began bombing the front of the convoy after receiving confirmation that the column carried militiamen. Eventually, B-52s flew over, dropping 500-pound bombs every 500 meters along the length of the convoy. The casualty total was not immediately known, but the attack appeared to add significantly to the Iraqi militia losses in recent days."

In the open, yes, but most of those advantages disappear in house-to-house combat. This is one of many reasons that comparing this war to the Gulf War is erroneous. In the Gulf War most of the destruction came through Air Strikes on targets in the open. Towards the end ground forces were picking off retreating Iraqi forces desperate to leave Kuwait. This war is nothing like the Gulf War and will, barring some dramatic event, be much more costly. This war is very much, or likely will become, a more traditional war.

If we fought in house to house combat you'd be right, it would play more to the Iraqis' favor. But we know that and we're not going to do that. We're content bombing them from the sky or shelling them with artillery until they cave in. We're not about to get ourselves killed. We have technical advantages and we're going to use them.

1,000 american paratroopers drop in and take control of a major airport in northern Iraq, clearing the way for airlifting troops and equipment more efficiently in the northern front...

No trace of recent weapons work at plant.

US military investigators have found no evidence that chemical weapons have been made in recent years at a suspect chemical plant secured by US troops in southern Iraq, a senior defense official said yesterday.

How come every one of your posts seems to have an anti-US slant to it? The individual posts all differ, but the anti-US theme remains common.

Yeah, well, B-52's raining an entire load of 500lbs bombs will tend to do that

I bet that convoy was devastated. I'm sure they'd use some cluster bombs in there, which will easily kill all the lightly armored trucks and soldiers. Last time Iraq massed a convoy of vehicles like that (in the first Gulf War), we obliterated it with our bombs.

Here's a pic:

When we have the opportunity to bomb a mass of enemy units, we're going to destroy it as much as we can.

I knew this a long time ago. But why were soldiers at a so-called abandoned factory? Why was it hidden to the air? It sure wasn't a Mark K cosmetics factory.

I like it. Throughness. It's a nice trademark to have in warfare.

Your boys aren't there because virtually your entire country is diametrically opposed to this war. I think they'd have no problem hitching a ride with some of our guys if they needed a lift, but that's not the case.

The press overhyped the effect of the MOAB. Yes, it's a big bomb, but it's not that big.

It weighs 21,000 lbs, which is a tiny bit more than 10 regular 2,000 lb bombs. Also keep in mind that the blast of ten 2,000 lb bombs will cause a much wider area of damage than one 21,000 lbs bomb. It will just make a bigger crater in the ground. This is due to the amount of area contained in the sphere of the blast.

That's probably why they used many 500 lb bombs instead of fewer 1,000 or 2,000 lb bombs... you don't need that much destructive power to destroy a vehicle as long as you're able to hit it. Using many bombs increases the probability that many individual vehicles will be hit.

He's just clearing up an issue. Doesn't mean it's "anti-US".
