I, for one, commend the Wachowski brothers for tow reasons.
1. They made a very deep, intellectual movie that (despite protestations to the contrary) is not aimed at any one person or party, but at the idea of a tyranical government and what religious zealotry could do if left unckecked.
2. Probably more important than the above, this was the hands down absolute most stunning action flick i have seen in a LONG time. Matrix 1 included. The 1 vs 10 fight scene at the end was beautiful, shocking, thrilling, and macho enough for the most hard core Ahnold fan. I saw it for the second time earlier this evening and I can honestly say i was even more stunned the second time around.

PERFECT acting, great directing, why couldnt they do this in the 2nd and 3rd matrices? I fully recommend this movie to anyone and everyone. THe only part some might not like is the world record holder for most alliteration in a monologue by V himself. I had no idea that many waords even started with V. I understood it perfectly, and loved it greatly, even more than the architect's speech in the matrix revolutions. Take the verbosity of the architect and multiply by a billion and you get this monologue.

Simply put, a movie that is VERY close to being one of my favorite of all time and may become so as i reflect upon it further.

Remember, remember the 5th of November,
The gunpowder, treason, and plot,
I see no reason the gunpowder treason,
Should ever be forgot.

Go see it

Another V thread, another extreme opinion. This movie seems to be a love/hate kind of thing. I liked it, but I'm not gonna repost everything I put in the huge V thread.

sigh.... can people stop giving credit to the Wachowski brothers? the source material was a comic series/graphic novel. they only adapted the story into a script, and then produced it. they didn't direct it either. and its not their story. :(

that dumb mask is a Guy Fawkes mask, from the gunpowder plot. I haven't seen the movie or read the graphic novel so thats all I know about the mask.

Bad directors can ruin a film despite good source material. See The Hulk

Newsweek basically said the movie was pro-terrorism and poorly acted/directed. I guess I'll have to go see it and find out.

I liked it, it had its moments. The love thread in the movie sucked horribly though, it came off cheesy as hell. I really like the dominoes, that was the most awesome part of the movie :D

I like the movie, but I didn't consider the fight scene at the end that great.

Especially how one small plate held off a hundred bullets, none of which were shot anywhere but at his chest.

the government depicted in the movie didn't seem very totalitarian or oppressive to me. I like Equilibrium much better.

It was directed by James McTeigue...

the brothers are credited for the screenplay.

Execution of political/religious/social ?undesirables?, possession of cultural items deemed threatening to the state criminalized, involuntary human experimentation, a fully state controlled media, maintain the power of the state at any cost, etc?

Sounds like a real party.

Edit: I give the movie a solid "meh".
