You can't even admit the US didn't build the Panama Canal. It was built 85% by France but they ran out of money so they sold the project and the US finished it and profited from it.

Wikipedia says the French got about 2/5 of the work done.

"Work continued under the new plan until May 15, 1889, when the company went bankrupt and the project was suspended. After eight years the canal was about two-fifths completed, and about $234.8 million had been spent."

85% isn't even close to accurate.

The French caused 85% of the deaths so that's something.

But maybe you're right.. the French want to make themselves look good so they say 85%.

The French caused 85% of the deaths so that's something.

More than likely Malaria and Dengue Fever caused it.

And with the anti vax in full swing.. we could start wishing for MAGA to relocate there and start it all over.

Even more ironic considering he gave that speech while having a liquid adderall soaked tampon inserted rectally.

Also the way he talks about people buying fentanyl like millions of people are rocking up to their dealers demanding it. My Fox News addicted father talks about it the same way and I had to explain that it is overwhelmingly an adulterant added to other drugs. Why I, someone who doesn't take anything stronger than cask strength whiskey, have to explain the idea of cutting a stronger cheaper drug into say cocaine (something I know he did in his younger days) to make appear more potent is really something.

Not to embrace a Labour Theory of Value or anything radical like that, but I'd give the credit to those who actually wielded the shovels and, like, did the actual work. I don't think those were either US Americans or French.

Kinda the same question one has to ask looking at any prominent building or project completed in the US that dates to before 1860.

Who built the Panama Canal?
The United States Paid for the French Rights to the Canal Zone and built it with the lives and health of many workers.
We ( Jimmy Carter and Congress ) fucked up and gave it away under the Torrijos-Carter Treaties that gave control back to Panama. Bad move IMO.
I just want to point out that that's the same logic that's being used in Russia to argue that they should take Alaska back.

Wikipedia sources each fact in their articles, Simply dismissing information because it is on Wikipedia without addressing the source of that information is a common tactic used by people who seek to spread misinformation.

By July 1, 1914, a total of 238,845,587 cubic yards had been excavated during the American construction era. Together with some 30,000,000 cubic yards excavated by the French, this gives a total of around 268,000,000 cubic yards

Folks it is simple - trump only knows how to 'negotiate' by being a bully. To Eruope buy more gas/oil we export or else; to Panama lower rates on canal or else; to Canada improve border security (which is already pretty good) or else...

Trump has spent his entire life as entitled and as a bully upon folks who can't fight back. If he actually faced someone he was unable to bully he would wimper in a corner and piss in his pants.

Y'alls don't appreciate Trump's genius. Getting the fees lowered on the canal is the only way the numbers work for his real estate scheme. The U.S. takes Greenland (hardly anyone is using it anyway) and ships it to the California coast. The wind blows across the glaciers and sends cool air to America. The rest of the world swelters while America enjoys free air conditioning.

Just kidding. Trump wants Greenland because it's really, really white.

You are getting weirder and weirder,

You really think facts make a difference to a trumper like pcgeek who thinks reconquering the panama canal is the best thing since the annexation of New Mexico, Arizona & California??

C'mon be fucking honest.

And go back and look at my original post.. it was a response to him.

I know who you were responding to. So what? What kind of shitty history education did you have that you thought France did 85% of the work on the canal?

So come January 20th I was already planning at all times on carrying my US passport and a copy of my birth certificate showing native born status, but for those of us who are brown and have scary/undesirable last names, will this be enough in the event of an encounter with the deportation police? Or are we looking at a shoot first, ask questions later situation?

Better make sure it’s your certified long form birth certificate.
