To my knowledge, its been set at $28k base retail for its release. Depending on its popularity, you might be able to knock it down a grand with the dealer.

270 hp of AWD, 6-speed goodness... its worth the splurge, IMHO.

hadnt thought about the rx-8... i'd like something more practical, but i'll at least give it consideration.

Yet you thought of the 350Z? The RX-8 is much more practical, has a back seat and four doors.

EDIT: The RX-8 Is a pretty practical sports car, you are looking for a sedan, and this car does have 4 doors. It handles well, RWD, light, has "ok" power, and is pretty nice looking. It is likely to be cheaper than the Z as well, I don't see any reason why you would brush this car off to the side. The car does have the tendacy to burn oil, and has gas milage of a V8. I wouldn't worry too much about that though.

The only thing I would be concenerd about would be the reliability of the RENESIS motor, it hasn't been out long enough to determine its relability. For comparisions sake, the older naturally aspirated Rotary cars ran pretty well. I still see lots of 2nd gen RX7s on the road. The turbo Rotary is a completely different case, reliability on them suck. The RX-8, being N/A, I wouldn't be too concerned.

The RX-8 is not my first choice of cars I would pick, but it is a solid car. I would highly consider one if I was looking for a "practical sports car", but I don't need one now. If I had a choice, I would buy a used 2002-2003 S2000. I like roadsters.

It would also mean me having to find something to drive for the next 5-6 months. Not sure how long my parents will let me steal the minivan...

So as much as i'd like that car.. I dont think it would work out for me in the end. It's a shame it won't be available sooner.

heh.. just becuase i'm a nissan fanboi - plus i was surprised to see invoice on the base 350 is only $24k making it potentially very affordable if i can find one.

Hows the reliabililty of the renesis rotary engine? If the maintenance costs wont be too high it could increase its favorabiltiy. (as for the back seats in the rx-8 -- HAHAH, you've seen them, right? you'd need to amputate your legs to fit in ;) )

I think its a little early in the model's life to make a long-term reliability call. Rotaries have a pretty bad rep as far as maintenance goes, but I've never known an RX-8 owner to have something to bitch about thus far...

You're supposed to check the oil level every other time you fill up your tank in an RX-8. Doesn't necessarily need to be topped off everytime, but it is something of a nuisance.

And the back seat of an RX-8 is actually not that bad... I've never sat in one, but I see them all the time when I take my Mazda3 in for service and its fairly spacious. Certainly beats the Mustang's pitiful excuse for backseats. :)

If all you want is speed. How practical of a car is it?

You think it'd be okay for a 6 hour car trip to the beach every summer? I am going to want to kill msyelf when i'm stuck in rush hour traffic in the evenings?

I like the EVO a lot from a performance standpoint -- but i'm very skeptical of its practicality. I wish they would let me do a 24 hour test drive on it to decide if i would actually be able to live with it.

mustang,.. well it'd better be a really nice ride for me to get over how much i dislike mustangs. (although, the new ones do appear to be a whole new animal)

Maxima... a little bigger than what I would like.. i'll see how it handles.. If it's at least as good as the Altima that would give it some bonus points.

No matter what i'll be getting a Base model car, NO options. I really don't plan on the out the door payment (inc. Taxes) being more than 27k. I'd like to keep it under 25k.

It's pretty obvious you can't handle a car with a lot of power, so I4 accord for you. I guess closest thing to that on the list is TSX

becuase having too much power has anythign to do with hitting something in the road causing me to loose traction when i'm not even going 5 over the speed limit...
I never even said i wanted something with a ton of power.. i just want something i am going to enjoy driving everyday.

Hey, it's your business, but maybe you aren't as good of a driver as you thought.

Did u whack ur car becasue your lost traction?

I think AWD fit you best. So Subaru and Evo.

Evo is definitely fun to drive
