Been 50 for a while and still love the game as much as I did then.

I dont have the same experience as the above user.
there is tons to do..
hard modes every day for tokens.
Dailies every day for tokens.
PVP every day for tokens champion gear bags and BRAGGING RIGHTS =p

then level alts..

Loved the original KOTOR, but not sure i can commit to an MMO due to other obligations.:( if i game 1-2 hours a night for 4-5 days a week, how long would it take to hit lvl 50?

I have spent about 3 days playing and at level 40 on my main. So about 100 hours or so if you are taking it easy.

I'm level 25 with my TV and honestly kinda getting burned out already. The story was good at first, but now its become a little predictable along with the quests on each planet. Not much variation to my "rotation" since only a few attacks are worth the ammo to cast. The game is just starting to seem more like your typical rinse and repeat grind the more I play. Do things change much as you get to the higher levels or should I just cut my losses here.

Honestly, it doesn't change much. The quests are your typical MMO fare even at the higher levels. I got pretty burned out in the early 40s and then I took off 4 or 5 days and between Thursday and today, went from 45 (IIRC) to 50. I am glad it is done and want to focus on crafting and PvP, but to be completely honest, I don't see myself renewing the game when my time is up in March.

Yes. Servers come down at midnight PST for 8 hours while they patch (give or take on the hours).

Looks like they postponed it for 'the next few days'.

Hello everyone! Because we care about ensuring that Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ provides you with a consistent and quality game play experience, we will be postponing weekly maintenance this week. Downtime was originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 from 2AM CST (12AM PST/3AM EST/8AM GMT/9AM CET) to 10AM CST (8AM PST/11AM EST/4PM GMT/5PM CET) and will now occur at a later date due to issues requiring additional testing that have been discovered with the Game Update 1.1 content on the Public Test Server.

These issues were primarily brought to our attention by the diligent players on the Public Test Server Forums. Your participation in testing helps to improve the game as a whole, and we appreciate your discussion and feedback. The bug reports you provide are a valuable part of the development process. Thank you!

We’re working hard to bring you Game Update 1.1: Rise of the Rakghouls and are working hard to ensure your overall experience with Star Wars: The Old Republic is spectacular! The maintenance window for Game Update 1.1 will be rescheduled for some time within the next few days, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. When there’s a definite time, we will post here on the forums as well as on the Community Blog. Please keep your eye out for updates, and we will provide information as soon as it’s available.

yeah, there has been no mention of a gamebreaking bug, other than the already existing gamebreakers, in the test forum. there is mention of the update being pushed back after the first month's subscriptions are renewed.

Dear All:

My brother and I are going to start playing tomorrow and was hoping to solicit some advice from some of the more experienced players here. I think this probably applies to both simple mechanics -- i.e. choosing a good server -- as well as some any hints or tints for low-level players.

I apologize, in advance, if the request seems slightly odd; although we both regularly play rpgs, this will be the first MMO either of us has ever played so there is a great deal with which we are unfamiliar.

Thanks, for any help or advice you all might be able to provide.

Regards,

If you don't go to the AT Guild Server, I would highly advise you to research the potential servers you would like to roll on. Like WoW, there seems to be a huge population difference between Republic and Empire on most servers. It seems to be more of an issue with PVP servers (more Sith) then PvE (even or skewing towards Republic). I unfortunitly followed some friends to Anchorhead (PvP) and it's totally dominated by the Empire (close to 300 players in the Empire fleet at primtime vs. barely 100 for Republic). This can have adverse affects on your enjoyment of the game.

Everything from the

- Economy (not enough players = not enough goods/services on the Auction House)
- The ability to get groups (not enough players = tanks/healers in short supply)
- PVP (The way PvP gear is obtained is random, but the side that has a population advantage will get ranks and gear quicker, and when the final PvP Planet changes go in with the new patch, it will make it impossible to complete your daily quests)

Been trying to enjoy this game but just cannot.

I loved playing the KOTOR games so I guess it's safe to say enjoying those games has absolutely no indication of having fun here. It's just like most other MMOs with boring repetition making it feel like you are working rather than playing. I'm literally sitting there "playing" the game last night thinking about what I could watch on TV or what other games I could be playing...

I've been enjoying life at 50, my friends and I mostly PVP and play the AH for fun; maybe it's just me but that's about as enjoyable an element to a game as any other. We haven't done any raiding yet, still waiting for more people to catch up mostly, but in the meantime there's datacrons to hunt, companion affection/quests, planetary quests (the 'main' lines on the planets are usually pretty decent), champion (and then battlemaster gear), and personally I still need to get to Light V and I'd like to really pimp out Xalek's gear.

But I do think it feels like TOR gives the players too much too fast, it's progression is like that of WOTLK WoW but it doesn't have the faux-content backup to get away with it yet when people blitz through the basics. I mean all it's really missing are the most dreadful grinds; the rep grinds, the honor grind, achievements, but on the other hand people need those kind of things to feel like they're always 'progressing'. Once the Legacy system gets actual 'rewards' in place I think it'll address a lot of that, at least for the people who feel they need that sort of thing.

But it is tough to create a game these days that feels rewarding to play without frontloading rewards. Honestly while I think levelling could stand to be a bit [a lot?] slower, it'd be a death sentence even if it was all quest based because it'd take that mainstream appeal of Star Wars and throw it out the window when it attracts new players who feel like they aren't getting anywhere.

Maybe it'll even out or maybe it'll peter out, dunno. Suffice to say I've certainly gotten my money's worth and I definitely don't expect them to have everything perfect less than a month after release; I think people are playing this game so much it's easy to forget it's still pretty much brand new.

I'm guessing you enjoyed the first 10 levels, then started to hate it when you realized how long it takes to level in an mmo.

More stories from the land of SWTOR.

Yesterday, I had the day off from work, but was f'n exhausted since the baby decided she doesn't want to sleep at night anymore. Wife went out with the kids for bowling, I stayed home with the baby to give the wife a little break after a grueling night of no sleep.

Annnnnyway, I'm playing SWTOR minding my own business leveling up my Shadow and whatnot while my baby, almost a toddler, is playing with her toys and whatnot. She has taken a liking to my computer, since it has a window on the side panel. She giggles at the innards and such. To date, while she has taken a mild interest into the buttons on the front, she really hasn't bothered them. Even when she was interested, I was mindful enough to prevent any button-pressing from happening.

Yeah, you know where this was going. I'll set it up for you...

I'm in a match of huttball, and we're down 0-1 with about 1:58 left. I stuff the Rottworms ball handler one platform away from scoring, and I turn around to start booking. With a swarm of red in the way, I look to pass it. I click the button, then look for a target down field. Just as I'm about to turn to scan the other direction - the screen goes black.

Yup... with just less than 2 minutes in the match, holding the ball with the potential to tie it up, my daughter found the reset button on the computer. Yup, I'm sure THAT went over well with the team.

Of course, adding insult to injury, the match is long over before I manage to log back in. I log in back in the world. I log in DEAD at the vehicle pad where I left after queuing up for the warzone, and I got neither XP, Valor, Credits or Commendations for the ~13 or so minutes I spent in the warzone. I'm sure I also made it onto several people's "Do not PvP with this asshat" list.

:(

So I wonder how many "bored" players who are complaining on the forums [and stating they canceled] will return to WoW for the panda expansion and then will be back when SWTOR releases an expansion?

It seems gamers these days crave content faster than it can be pushed out the door and just find something else to keep them entertained [maybe a side effect of the portable gaming devices such as ipad/ipod/android devices with a huge selection of entertainment?]

Which instance of that zone you're in (if there are more than one due to population).

That doesn't seem right. I've never seen more than 2 zones listed in the who listing, while that number has always been from mid single digits up to a hundred.

Hard mode tokens = don't need if you raid. If you don't raid then yes, do them. You'll be getting gear on the slow train, but since you don't/can't raid it's better than nothing.

Dailies = don't need. You can get crafted gear improvement items that's darn close in minutes. But yes, do em if you love em or want the mount or are otherwise bored. There's nothing else to gain (no rep, etc).

PVP = yes. It's fun. Once you hit around valor 40, you could have all your champ gear. But it's random, so you could also be sitting on zip. :)

Make sure you do the pvp weekly quests (2) as you get 3 bags each.

And yeah, level alts. That's what I'm doing right now because my only "needed" playing time is raid time. Some of the stories are pretty fun.

Um in raiding gear is not a sure thing.. and getting proper gear = easier raiding..
so we GEAR UP before we go raid like most other do..

We would NOT let you raid unless you were geared out with daily gear or equivalent PVP gear. We are not going to wipe taking ungeared scubs into hard mode 16s

Dailies also give over 400+K worth of credits a day.. and yes I need that money as do most people.. as well as the tokens for ears and implants for you and your companions.

as well as the free mods armorings and enhances.
ALL gear needs to be epiced and L50 before raiding period.

PVP is more than fun its about 3/4 of the L50 game right now.
champ bags and Ilum control.

Time to duct tape the power & reset buttons and lock down the cord :D

When my kid was around that age, the first thing I did after installing Windows was to set in the control panel so the power and reset buttons do 'Nothing'.

Also I installed the program that disables the DVD drive's physical eject button. Boy do they love playing with buttons :D

Off the top of your head can you list them all, or at least the areas? I do Ilum (50k-ish?) and Belsavis (also 50k-ish?), but that's it.

In the top left of the screen in the chat frame, it says what planet you are in followed by a number.

Totally forgot you could change those button functions.

Hell when I figured out you could do DVD drive eject within Windows I played around with it one day till I ended up ripping off my new Antec Sonata door :(

Is there anyway to unbind using quick slot 1 when right clicking on a player? It fucks me up in PvP as it triggers a global cool down.
