I think it is a pretty cheesy ability, but whatever. I guess I just need to roll a character with stealth ability and do some mission camping of my own.

Now..mind you..you may not have known this..but, its hard to feel bad for you if you rolled a character on a PvP server.

This is what happens. Your going to get camped and rolled over until you hit 50 and then your going to get payback and camp and roll other lower level players. It's a never ending cycle.

Yes. Stealthed idiots who camp along quest routes or at quest objectives and then grief you after they kill you once and then scream "Noob!!!111!!1" Well, this noob doesn't live in mom's basement and has actually seen a woman naked. 😀 Today, it was along a path to the Rist (?) objectives on Alderaan and yesterday it was at, IIRC, the Czerka factory on Tatooine. I didn't get a look at their levels but I wouldn't be terribly shocked if one or both were level 50.

I personally think they should eliminate stealth or give it to all classes.

How are they griefing/camping? You respawn somewhere else and don't have to recover your body or anything, right?

I'm guessing there is no way to see stealthed classes? No "see invis" buff, so to speak?

Frankly, the fact that this kind of thing can happen is making me feel a lot better about buying the game when I get some dough; it makes the PvP all the more meaningful.

BTW, how do you they call you noob, I thought there was no communication between factions?

I don't want or expect people to feel bad for me, but I do have the right to complain about idiots. I played AoC so I know what getting ganked by idiots is like, and as a bounty hunter in Galaxies, more than a few Jedi cursed my name for taking them down in what they considered "cheap" tactics. However, in that case, the HUGE difference was that I had a mission to kill them and I didn't keep going after the same guy while shouting "I pwnz0r u noob!11!!11!!"

I don't mind getting killed by another player, but a) Griefing (my definition: repeatedly killing someone and talking smack) is for immature idiots and b) Bioware really needs to work on some class equalization IMO.

I'd prefer to stick to players around my level, but I will say that these idiot level 50 players who might be doing this had better watch out -- they did the exact same thing on AoC and Funcom implemented a system that screwed players over for ganking and griefing lower-level players. Bioware might follow suit if it becomes a problem.

Griefing, in my definition, is repeatedly targeting the same person and talking smack in the process. As I mentioned earlier, these guys were sitting stealthed on roads leading to quest objectives. That's camping and when they keep killing you, that's griefing.

Not to my knowledge, and that's why I think it sucks and Bioware needs to level the playing field a bit. I personally think they will and I won't be surprised if Agents (I think that's the class) get hit with a huge nerf bat.

I don't agree with nerfing the class itself(DISCLAIMER: Having not played the game yet, I could be convinced otherwise about that once I do.), but not giving other players the ability to somehow get a see invis buff is a MAJOR fail. Did Bioware consult with DICE or something on PvP?

But as long as there's no corpse camping because you have to recover your body or whatever, I think this very much enhances PvP servers. Victims need a support network they can call in to turn it into a major battle...ie, a guild. If people can easily avoid PvP, there's no point to having a PvP server.

However, at the same time, there ought to be ways to avoid PvP if you really want to...alternate but longer travel time routes to the objective, for example. If there is no such thing, again I'd wonder if they are consulting with DICE.

I can only hope that as I level higher (I'm currently level 33), maybe I'll get some sort of ability which can help decloak people.

Unfortunately, I don't foresee open-world PvP coming close to what Galaxies had, which IMO was the best PvP model I've seen in an MMO to date. In Galaxies, you could mark yourself "Overt" and the entire galaxy was a big PvP field. Don't feel like PvPing? No problem, mark yourself as Covert. Additionally, since we had player cities and bases, we had lots of large, coordinated battles and raids on opposing guild's cities and bases. That was a BLAST. Too bad Sony and LucasArts ruined the game.

But many things are instanced, so if you DO make it past the campers they aren't going to be able to interrupt you, right?

I guess if you're trying to do your storyline, this is a problem, but after that, surely there's alternative things to do for grinding if one place is camped?

Ahh and there in lies the inherent problem with stealth classes in any pvp game. To allow other players the ability to see through or decloak other players makes stealth as an ability completely worthless. To not allow it makes stealth fairly OP, more so in the sense of insta-pop or lockdown abilities used in conjunction.

I personally don't mind stealth being what it is, stealth. The ability to allow one player to have the advantage of determining who and what and where they start a fight against another player which doesn't have stealth. However, I also believe that there needs to be a drawback to having such an advantage.

I haven't done the PVP servers, but I was under the assumption there was no instant kill or long lockdown to be killed abilities in the game right now. So if a level 50 stealth character tries to kill a lower level player in PVP the lower level player still has a chance of at least living if they only try to escape and not fight back. If they fight back alone they are going to die. But you should be able to stun and/or mez them and make a run for it to safety no matter what. Then bring back friends to clear them out if you must absolutely need to go where that guy is camping. Otherwise just do something else.

Back in EQ, in the early days before raid gear almost always had see invis effects on the helmets, you had to have see invis cast on you. Melees couldn't do it and casters often forgot to do it while they were grinding, especially since it wore off in like 10 minutes and if you were grinding for a while, you'd have to stop, remem and recast. And of course a melee could go bum a see invis from a non-pk, but it would only be good for 10 minutes, again.

It surely wouldn't hurt to give one class the ability to do this, making that class the counterbalance to stealth classes. People that AREN'T that class will either have to group with one, or suffer the consequences, but at least the option would be there.

I mean, often enough people will prefer to just grind with their companions instead of finding live players? Companions of course wouldn't be able to cast it on you.

Installing now, wish me luck!

Make sure you upgrade your ship components to at least Grade 1 components and also, don't be afraid to use missiles against targets if you're running out of time. Space missions are easy XP every day.

They're fun in a different, "arcadey" way. Again, this is another area where Galaxies spanks the living crap out of TOR -- Jump to Lightspeed (space in Galaxies) was far, far superior.

I've level 3 gear on my ship, guess I'm used to SWG space combat which is far superior to TOR ,I was almost master pilot in SWG so know I can't be that bad a pilot lol.

You know, that makes a lot of sense even to a long time MMO player. I know in WoW, I maxed out enchanting and tailoring, but didn't really use it much since drops were so much better. However I had so much gold that it was just something to do. I guess I will switch over to three gathering skills and see how it goes.

guess it depends on how you play the game too. if your casual than crafting skills arent a bad way to go. Even in WoW tailoring could get you gear that was right below raid level. Wasnt to terrible to get either...just mats. That and at least in later WoW (well BC era) you could at least get some items that were a few stats better than normal that were tailor only (or enchanter only, jewelcrafter, ect). And to be fair a lot of the "end game" (more level 50 stuff) just doesnt feel complete either so hard to know if more will be added later or what

just to reinforce my opinion that the server and instance division is lousy, last night i was the only player on har shaddah (sp?) while the other instance had a whopping 21. their system tend towards either sparse populations or hitting a low cap - both are bogus.

Wow just pulled negative credits on a rich slicing missions. Dropping ASAP.

weird, i have been doing pretty good still, probably not quite as good as before, but had maybe like 2 mission where i did not make the money back in about 45-50 missions

i havent seen that at all in my leveling. After tython it was always a single instance for me. Then again right now theres all of 12 of us on Voss but every planet (which for me a high number is ~20) has been singl einstanced

As a commando, I have a decloaker. It launches little bots and lasts 10 seconds for the area. It has a 20 second CD, so you can keep it up at a decent clip.

I don't pvp much, because I'm Republic and on my server (PVE) they are horrible. How bad?

I was playing my lvl 11 gunslinger alt yesterday and getting 2-4 on me all the time YET I was leading the charts in DPS and actually trying for the objectives despite the fact my teams had lvl 20-38 guys, including gunslingers. Um, check please.

I've never seen 6 people lose to 2 before . . .

I'm stuck at home after surgery so figured I'd buy and download the game.
Origin site lists "Digital PC download" then says you can't buy it. lol?

Side note about slicing. I dropped it. The nerf is just too bad.

I was rolling around Corellia (47-50) almost alone today and charting profit from slicing from found boxes. In an hour I found 6 boxes for 8,821 total credits. The next hour I found only a few. And this is with no competition in the zone. Just doing one quest gave me about this much.

I think slicing is fine when you're lower level but at or near 50 it has no real value.

Anyway, I can deploy 5 companions so if they change it, I can level it up in a day no problem. 🙂
