I am curious as to what the cost would have been had they used actual sets instead of green screens.

As for some peoples' disppointment, I suspect a large amount of it stems from automatically associating "comic book movies" with spandex-clad superheroes. The best writing in comics is not in Marvel X-Men Super Alpha Megazord Regeneration Special #113 with the 113 different collectible foil covers.

Don't forget about marketing, advertising, publicity, and on and on, other extra costs.

saw it, loved it. mickey rourke turned in the performance of his life, the visual style of movie was neat and a nice change, and i didnt mind the pacing or the content at all. my only gripe? the acting performances turned in by brittany murphy and michael madsen. they seemed to be over-doing it and trying to play it too dramatic. but other than that, loved it and cant wait for the dvd.

*Spoilers*

Was the quote the preist was reading when Marv was in the chair the same as Jule's quote from Pulp Fiction, I'm pretty sure they were similar.

Really really great movie, felt like pulp fiction but than didn't. I was blown away

Did you see the scene where Darth Vader says "Who's your daddy? I'm your daddy" to Alba?!? Incredible!

Did you actually expect people to listen to you?

I think they were going for that noir style, an affect.. I'm sure they were directed to plat it that way. I actually liked Madsen's cadence, i think he pulled it off (one of the few that did). It was extreme but not over the top. Murphy wasn't too bad but, in my opinion, Alba was terrible. She looks good but her acting here was bad. And her refusal to be nude, playing a stripper in Sin City, should have kept her out of the cast all together. She was out of place and out of her league.

Carla Gugino was perfect.. with a body that any straight adult male could appreciate. delicious.

link ... note that Rodriguez really wanted her anyway:

From the GQ article:
From somewhere in the stony depths of his Texas fortress, the director Robert Rodriguez had chosen Alba to lead the cast of his new ?lm, Sin City, a bleak urban wasteland where more terrible things (beheadings, electrocutions, cannibalism, maudlin male monologues) happen with alarming frequency. Oh, and because it?s derived from a graphic novel tailored to the priapic needs of teenage boys, a lot of women take their clothes off, too.

?Jessica has a dark side to her personality,? says Rodriguez. ?She?s kind of quiet and mysterious, but when she does a performance she?s great at making it accessible.? Rodriguez enlisted Frank Miller, the creator of the Sin City comic franchise, to assist in casting the movie?s stripper. ?The character dances in the movie,? Rodriguez explains, ?so Frank asked her, ?You can dance, right?? Jessica gave him this sly smile and said, ?Oh, I can dance.? I wish I had that on tape. It was like, ?What a dumb question!? ?

?She didn?t do anything like the dancers,? Rodriguez says. ?Her dancing was so much sexier?sensual and con?dent and not very showy.?

I can understand not wanting to be nude and i don't blame her (we'll see her nude soon enough in Playboy 3 years after she's washed up and attempting a comeback). But the director blew it succuming to his personal preference.

To maintain the integrity of the story she shouldn't have made the cut if she didn't want to drop trou, especially since she lacked the acting skills (at this point in her career) to play the role. she even stunk when she was getting whipped. So uninspired her performance was.

I thought Alba was ok. dialogue was choppy but that was the style.

and she looked fantastic.

I watched the movie yesterday and I didn't like it very much. Jessica Alba couldn't act but she was sexy in the film and I'm glad she was casted for the role. I just thought Frodo, as Harry Potter , and that Ferengi were disturbing characters.

Quark? LOL, I was thinking the same thing when I saw him.

WOW. That's about all I can say right now, even though I saw it Saturday night. I mean, I knew it was going to be violent with Rodriguez and Tarantino involved, but holy crap. I walked out of the theater in a "what just happened!?" state. I lost track of how many guys got their stuff either blown off, cut off, ripped off, etc. What's with Elijah Wood? Frickin cannibal, long-nailed, messed-up dude..."No Frodo, that's a bad Frodo!"

Oh well...I'm sure I'll keep getting flashbacks for a while from this...

It's definitely right up there on my most disturbing / most violent movies list.

Wow... just wow

Pulp Fiction has been my favorite movie for about 11 years now... I think this may take its place

i recommend everyone go read just ONE of the sin city novels, realize how confusing and utterly non-visually entertaining they are, then watch this movie.

in this case, comics vs. movie, movie wins BIG

Anyone else find it usual how all these people survived bullets to the head?

Anyway, did anyone see people walking out of the theater? I saw this really old woman escorting her even older mother down the stairs while all the violence was happening. It sucked for them because they took forever to climb down the stairs. :D

- they were shots to the body, maybe except for Benecio which was an entirely dumb segment after his head was severed...

- haha @ the old ladies... someone played a cruel joke on them...

Fantastic movie... one of the better ones i've seen in awhile. All the characters and stories were great, the only actor/actress i think that sucked (and which was hyped), was Jessica Alba. But otherwise, GREAT cast and what a movie.

SPOILER QUESTION: Was Jackie Boy an undercover cop or was he just a cop looking for a good time?

Brittney Murphy's character tried to warn him because she knew he was an undercover cop, or was it because she just knew the cop would bring trouble?

A cop looking for a good time.

Both. Killing a cop isn't a good idea, even in Sin City.
