Not gonna bother with the pre-order, it won't be sold out anywhere I wouldn't think. I'll probably stop by next Friday and nab it.

I played the demo last night on my 360. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The control scheme in this game is completely unacceptable. Gears has set the standard for how a 3rd person game should control...why not emulate that? This control scheme worked in 2004 with RE4...but in 2009, it is completely silly and unnecessary.

I wanted to buy this, since I have been a huge fan of the RE series since RE1 was released on the PlayStation with that huge freaking box. The draconian control scheme is a killer for me. This will be the first Resident Evil game that I will not buy. :(

Yeah, the controls have been a big complaint for a ton of people. A week or so after the demo came out there was a video interview with one of the developers saying that they just finished making a new control scheme called something like Action Controls that was more like Gears of War, I don't know if it was included in the demo or not. Some say that all he means is that you aim with RT and shoot with LT (control style D in the demo), don't know if that's the full story or not. The game would be drastically different/easier if they let you move and shoot though.

I haven't seen or heard anything about this new control scheme except for this video you keep referring to. Is this video still available on XBOX Live?

Until it is like Gears (move/strafe with the left stick, aim/look with the right stick, use L to aim and R to fire, MOVING WHILE AIMING), I will not purchase it.

Gears is the perfect model for 3rd person gameplay. Why Capcom is still living in 2004 is beyond me...

I don't think it's still up there, I saw it when I turned my Xbox on a few weeks ago, it was one of the feature videos (one you just stream, not download). I think it was an OXM video.

That developer was mistaken. Capcom has since come out and said directly that you will not be able to move and shoot (can't find the link). Also, supposedly OXM's review criticizes the game for lacking the ability to shoot and move.

How can they have a million zombies come at you at the same time, and not give you the ability to run and gun? It's ridiculous, and has pissed me off with this series

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say I'm looking forward to this title. The controls are just like RE4 and I loved that game (played through 5 times or so now) - the RE5 controls were simple to pick up. Are there any actual Resident Evil fans here?

*Edit*
Took out noob statement because it seems to be riling people up which was not the intention.

Sounds like most people in this thread are complete noobs to RE.

I've played the original, code veronica, and re4.

I found the control ok but one thing I find really really annoying is that the game continue even when I am in inventory screen reloading ammo.

so people dont like RE5's controls and they are noobs to RE?

i've finished every RE game out there EXCEPT RE4, which I played for about 2 hours before I got bored. i also was not fond of the controls in re4.

also, re4 came out 5 years ago, and the control in re5 felt like it came out 5 years ago as well.

There are alot of zombies charging you, although I can beat the 2nd demo mission solo without getting hit.

Not really that, last RE game was in '04 where there were't gobs of FPS/TPS games, they're right, as a whole controls have evolved way beyond this. I too am looking forward to it (and I think I've beaten RE4 more than you :p )

It's all about what you want in a game.

Some people want GoW 2.5 controls, you'll not find it here. That doesn't make them noobs, it just means they don't want to play a game like this.

I played Resident Evil on the first batch of original PlayStations that you had to turn upside because it had a weak motor that would cause the games to skip and lock up.

I own:

Resident Evil for the PlayStation (in the original huge box)
Resident Evil: Director's Cut for the PSOne
Resident Evil 2 for the PSOne
Resident Evil 3 for the PSOne
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X for the PlayStation 2
Resident Evil (REmake) for the GameCube
Resident Evil Zero for the GameCube
Resident Evil 4 for the GameCube
Resident Evil 2 for the GameCube
Resident Evil 3 for the GameCube

I think I even own Resident Evil 3 for the PC...maybe even RE2 somewhere...

Sounds like you are the "complete noob" for being so ignorant and making such a dumb statement. Watch it when you call people "noobs" simply because you disagree with them. You will embarrass yourself, like you already have.

Wow, but sorry, I'm not embarrassed. And try not to get your panties in a bunch - I'm just some dude using the internet that you don't even know. :)

My point is if you want GoW then play GoW. If you're looking for RE5 to be GoW then get over it cause it's not.

Anyway, if there's anyone who actually is looking forward to the game and is getting it and wants some coop action after it comes out - hit me up.

Then you're trolling. You're making ignorant statements about people when you know nothing about it.

You come into a thread, derail it by calling people "noobs"...what do you expect?

:disgust:

I'm done arguing pointlessly with you so I took out the noob statement because apparently its pissing people off which was not the intention. Sorry. Now I can still be happy about RE5 coming out and you can still keep wanting it to be GoW 2.5. Let's get this thread back on track.

People claiming they are RE vets, and still crying about the controls, are just silly. Its always been that way, stop crying.

Yeah.. too bad some 360 games require an install too. And not all 360's had HD's. Oops.

i dont see why anyone would think 'yikes' or be mad when a ps3 game requires an install.

if you have a PS3, you have a hard drive, don't you want to use it?

EDIT:

and i wish SF4 had a mandatory HDD install on the ps3, because when fighting people who do have it installed, it loads about 5 seconds faster than on xbox360, but when fighting people who don't have it installed, it loads about 3-4 seconds slower than on xbox360.

Yeah I agree. Installing to the PS3 only makes the load times faster and if you're not using the space - why not? 5GB of space is nothing. Heck even if your hard drive is filled up you can go buy a replacement that's 10x larger for relatively cheap.

A few scores are up on Metacritic, currently sitting at an 85. The two US ratings are both 90, the two UK ratings are 81 and 80. Everyone says the same thing, co-op = great, solo = not so much.
