*Official Red Dead Redemption thread* - Wanna posse up pardner?

Multiplayer is ok (but it had so much more potential). Basically there's not a lot, aside from the standard gang vs gang or free-for-all, to do except go to gang hideouts and kill everyone. Rockstar is due to pushout some co-op content, but I'm not sure when. But even a 2 person posse is enough to handle the hideouts. I'd like to see large posse wars (8vs8) or other challenges, but we'll see if that DLC occurs down the road.

I love sp though if not for the main story line than for the side missions. I spent about 30 min just playing poker at one point. BTW I suck at pokerD:.

Oh, funny story time then -

I rode to Armadillo to meet up with the Sheriff and such, thinking I'd just walk around town. Turns out, NPC behavior is just like GTA - run into someone and they try to start a fight. I was like, NP, I'll take care of this easy - hit the left trigger to target him, and then popped the right trigger a split second later and watched myself grab the guy by the neck and blow his head off at the chin with my repeater. I was like, oops - didn't mean for that to happen!

I don't like how they don't really explain things very well. I have no idea how to play horseshoes after the little tutorial, and I still don't really get what I'm supposed to do in a duel.

I just want to say it's all fun and games until you get ambushed by a damn mountain lion and it kills your horse, then you kill it, then its buddy comes out of nowhere and kills you.

At one point after I died, the game loaded me back into Armadillo. I thought I saw a pop up window telling me I could start a bounty hunter mission by getting the wanted poster and I *thought* I saw an icon show up on the mini map for that. But I reloaded the game and I don't see an icon any more. Am I just imagining things? Do the wanted posters not have a mini map icon? Where should I pick up my first one?

And what about horses...how do you tell which kind of horse you have? Did anyone upgrade to one from the store? Is there any noticeable difference in speed? I noticed that after I stole a couple horses, when I whistled for my horse my old one from Bonnie came back...is there a way to steal a horse and "set" it as your full time ride?

Overall it's a good game and I'm having fun. But there have been a couple of frustrating moments along the way.

You have to aim your shoe before every throw (the aim randomly resets after a throw).

Put the stake in between the left side of the shoe and Marsten's index finger. Then let go of LT and use RS to pull the meter on the left all the way back and then shove it forward at a moderate speed. If you get a decent rhythm down, you can adjust your release point so that you land close to the stake. For me, it is in between the bottom and middle lines for my optimum throw.

If you reload your game the wanted mission restarts. The posters themselves come and go at random.

I hadn't even started the wanted mission yet though. It was just a random death in the wilderness and when I re-spawned, the wanted pop up came up. THen I reloaded to a different saved game and haven't gotten a wanted pop up yet. Is there an icon on the mini map for posters, or do I have to investigate every police station, bank, and/or train station?

The one that I didn't get all the details on is dueling...how/when/why to draw at what moment...

Yeah I didn't get that at all- wasn't able to read all the instructions on screen- I've only been in one duel and shot the guy in the head...don't really know what I was doing though

Ok I figured out the dueling. You draw right away, by pressing LT or RT, not sure. Then you aim and press fire when the crosshair is small and white, and your bar builds up depending on how good the shot is. The first person to fill the bar wins.

I like the game. I don't really have much trouble with the horse riding that everyone seems to have. my problem is aiming, because i can't aim and move with a controller. good thing they have the auto-aim thing if you get close enough to the enemy and it sticks on them.

They need to make dead enemies/animals markers on the map easier to see. I think they need to make the radar map more useful in general.

I did a bounty mission to kill some guy out by Hanging Rock and I did that, but if I stuck around, 1 or 2 enemies would keep coming every minute or so. Whats the deal there?

need to be able to skip the skinning animals cutscenes. funny the first few times but after that it sucks. It's also difficult to find where people are, like if you hear a woman screaming or if you hear gunshots. Need some kind of map marker for that type of stuff.

I don't get how you tell if your horse is good or not, like if you steal a enemy's horse?

I wish there was an easier way to see ammo count, and in the weapon select screen, it shows it, but half the time I can't tell what it is, especially for the repeater as it is usually obscured by some piece of landscape.

I got a treasure map for rescuing some chinese guy from bandits. It clearly points to a spot near Hanging Rock, but I can't for the life of me find it (this is how i found out about the enemies that keep coming in waves every minute or so).

Again, with my approximately 3 hour play session, I like the game. now to try to sell my extra copy of golden guns code.

Anyone having trouble entering their Golden Gun code? Both the one inside the box and the one Amazon emailed me say 'The Rockstar code you entered is invalid"

To skip the animal skinning just ride or walk over the animal and press the skin button twice quickly instead of once. You'll see it say what you picked up, but no animation will happen.

no issues here. went right through, although I didn't enter mine until after 7 PM EST tonight. I used the amazon email code. Just listed the code that came with the game on ebay.

The hidden treasure near the Hanging Rock is
right behind the big rock. There is a little spot in between 3 big rocks and the chest is hidden under a bunch of small rocks.

I still have the Stallion that I got from Bonnie. Haven't had it die on me yet, and I'm a fair way into the game (11 hours?).

One thing that I would like to see gone is the little Sold animation everytime you sell something. It makes selling a bunch of items/skins a long and annoying process.

My turn.

Have played about 6-7 hours total (about 5 hrs. SP).

First impressions:

The game is just visually stunning. It is so evocative of a bygone era that it makes you almost nostalgic about such (un)developed society. The life in the wilderness.

The horse-riding mechanics were a little quirky in the beginning but they get better as you play more. This is very similar to the GTA car physics.

The combat, especially shooting on horseback I have struggled with. I seem to have to slow down to a snail's pace before being able to lock on and blast fools. It seems quite hard to keep going at a good pace and then turn and blast as you need to hold "A" (xbox360) to keep going and also need to steer; kind of hard to do when you're turned around! LOL...

I just love riding out into the wilderness and being with the stillness of the plains. The cricket sounds and other animals are so cool and realistic.

Most of the game-play is identical to GTA IV. There are a few differences but if you know how to play GTA IV, RDR is all go.

The missions, honestly, suck for the most part. They are stilted and canned which makes the whole idea of spontaneous game play null and void.

This game would be top notch, IMO, if they have a co-op SP game. I guess Free Roam is like that, but the missions in MP are severely lacking. I found myself doing 4 "Gang Hideout" fights with a buddy. Other than that, you just ride around and blast some birds/skunks etc. It gets boring really fast. Also, if you go to a 'public' server, there are so many idiots who even though are "in your posse", will just shoot you for the hell of it. This is the worst thing about playing with people you don't know! 🙁

I would like to try an 8-person posse and tear shit up but do things cooperatively; hunting, blasting bandits, gang fights etc. It is too easy for one moron to ruin the fun. Of course, a "private" xbox LIVE match is really fun. We just need to have 16 "friends". lolol..

Glitches and faults:

Online, although I've played only for about 2 hours, is redonkulous. So many glitches and weird things going on. I was riding my horse and the horse wasn't there! lol... guns disappear and some animations are weak.

When you get shot/killed, it makes you respawn in McFarlane's Ranch (in SP). This is a major PITA for me as I was in Ridgewood once and I had to ride for 15 mins to get back. Is this normal? Do you have to respawn at that Ranch every time or can you change it?

Overall, I think Rockstar has again hit the ball out of the park with RDR. It brings a fresh perspective to the 'western' idea and can be loads of fun. It is a definite "BUY" IMO and $60 is well worth it.

I've only died a couple of times but I've never respawned at MacFarlane's Ranch. I've respawned at my house in Armadillo and the one in Thieve's Landing. You probably spawn at your nearest house, or the one you last saved at.

You can also set up camp and fast travel.

Oh and a couple more things.

I got my "Golden Guns Pack" code through email from Amazon today.

I entered it but it kept saying "Unable to connect to "codes" server at Rockstar" or something like that. Basically, I was unable to unlock that pack.

Also, I still have NOT received my $20 for pre-ordering it at Amazon. What do I do?

I wish the game had a "tailor" to go to to get clothes. I hate the idea of "unlocking" costumes. Marston is smelly and ugly as it is; it would be nice to change clothes once in a while buy purchasing them! lol...

Anyone want to trade my Golden Guns Pack code for a costume code?

BTW has anyone had their horse stolen? I was just sitting out in the wild and some jerk came along and kicked me off my horse, got on and started riding away and yelled something at me. I ended up shooting him the back and got my horse back though.

This game is damn cool.

You can change the quantity when you sell an item by using RS. I didn't notice that right away. Speeds up selling by a little bit
