So I bought a year of PS+ off of CD Keys last night after swearing I wouldn’t. The whole classic game collection plus the super solid monthly game drops made it hard to resist, especially at $30.

I may just buy a couple more years of it at this point just to have it banked.

That's usually what everyone does. I'm excited to play control ultimate edition next month. Supposed to be 60fps performance mode 1440p upscaled to 4k or 30fps quality mode 1440p upscaled to 4k with ray tracing. They also said they made use of the ps5 dual sense controller.

Also the psn cards usually go on sale more times during the year compared to the Xbox game pass cards.

Only thing I've been a bit upset with is some game will come to psn plus for free that I've already purchased, but oh well.

Is it the real PS5 version of Control? The graphics post that I saw of it looked like it was the PS4 version, another game/PS5 exclusive was listed as the PS5 game. I mean, the native/updated version is absolutely the version I want. I mean, I can't imagine not playing on my PC with KB/Mouse but... free/included is free :)

They make it pretty confusing initially. This article says only the people that originally had control ultimate edition for ps4 get the free ps5 upgraded version. The whole next gen upgrade thing is kind of messy.

The publisher even said people who had the original game don't qualify for the ps5 upgraded edition.

I'd like to play it on pc but who knows when I'll be able to upgrade from my 1080ti.

Ugh the only console drops this week were from Playstation Direct, and I refuse to give Sony my CC number with how often they get hacked (always buy my digital games with PS cards I buy at Walmart, Best Buy, Gamestop, etc). Wish Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, Target would get more of these in.

I hear you, but at the same time... in a pandemic, I don't like the thought of risking my health every time I want to buy a new game.

I haven't been to a Best Buy since summer, but they were handling things pretty well ensuring full mask usage and ensuring lots of distance between people then, though in my area the summer wave was just as bad as this holiday season has been (San Antonio, Texas). But if something I want is on sale on PSN I'll usually pick up a PS card at Walmart when shopping for groceries.

Yeah, I can see it as a target of opportunity thing — just not the main goal of an excursion. And this partly reflects my own experience. I haven't been in a grocery store since April!

My Best Buy has been handling it very well. You can go in the store but you do get questioned on why you want to go in. They have a really quick drive up and pick up after you order online for in store pickup. I've used it several times and you just sit in your car and they drop whatever you ordered in your car.

I can confirm this. It’s been my main way of shopping local brick and mortars for too darn long but somehow I’ll persevere for 3-5 more months ;)

The store has been somewhat variable in how they've handled things here. For a bit, they just had someone in front that would ask if you needed an associate, or you could just go to the line for the service desk. One day, I had to wait outside due to what I assume was too many people in the store. Although, lately, there hasn't been anyone up front. You just walk in and do your business.

The last two times I went, I had to actually find someone at the door to note that I was bringing in a return. The few times that I've been out, even with cars in the lot, the stores still feel empty.

God of war is getting a ps5 update tomorrow.

4k 60fps with checkerboard resolution 2160p.

I may just replay this one soon.
I loved God of War. That and Bloodborne are the only titles I've gotten a Platinum trophy for.

If you haven't fought Sigrun yet I highly recommend another playthrough. That was a Bloodborne quality bossfight.

Is that one of the Valkyries? I dont think I fought any of them my first run through. I just wish I had more time to play but things at work have been keeping super busy.

Yeah, the last one. If you haven't fought her then well, you have the best part of the game to look forward to.

I haven’t even played it yet, just claimed it from the PS+ catalog. This is exactly the kind of updates I hope that a lot of games get on PS5 since I skipped PS4. Sweet!

Actually the original 1.0 disc version of the game supported an unlocked frame rate at 4K; at some point in a patch this was locked to 30 with no option to turn it off. This new option presumably is just re-enabling the unlock.

For the ps4 pro it had an option in settings. Either performance or resolution. I don't remember what I had it set on because I didn't touch a thing and played it as soon as the game was out.

On Resolution it was 4K checkerboard (with an unlocked frame rate, later locked to 30 max)
On Performance it was 1080p with a max of 60 fps

With the patch it sounds like you get the option of 4c60 or 4c30 on PS5.

The last guardian is evidently this way too, I hope they will take the time patch it up and restore that functionality.

Spiderman Remastered received updates after launch and I haven’t had it crash recently.

I am glad that they are actually patching these games. I honestly expect Xbox to be smoother the way they encapsulated the games and so far I haven’t been disappointed. Given Sony has given reasonable back compat and it’s a new console I am willing to cut the devs some slack so long as patches keep rolling :)

I find myself really thankful the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro existed as all the work that went into those titles optimized for them really shines right at launch on these new consoles.

Sony says they sold 4.5M PS5's in 2020; which is slightly higher than what the PS4 did. Also confirms that the console is being sold for a loss.
