Note to Moderator:
You may disagree that Dirk's comment was racist all you like. However, in the context of a debate on political philosophy it most certainly was not and YOU are wrong. Banning him for them was wrong also. I don't think the comment was particularly mean spirited or personally directed at anyone in particular nor blacks as a group if its read in the context of his other posts and opinions and in the context of the particular discussion that led to it. Your zeal for political correctness has clouded your judgement and your sense of fairness.
You may be a moderator but you are also a member and as such you SHOULD know the difference between blatant racism and comments such as Dirk's made in the heat of a debate. If you don't then you need to turn in your badge, pronto.
Substitute the words "Poor People" for Blacks in Dirk's statement and tell me how it sounds to you then. We hear every day from the media and those who are the self-proclaimed leaders of black people that most of their members are left behind, excluded from the American Dream, living in poverty. Whether or not that is true is subject for another debate. We are also told by this same media and those same "leaders" that most blacks vote Democrat. Again, that may or not be true, but it doesn't change the fact that that is what we're told. Now, look at the government "programs", largely instituted by Democrats, that supposedly are designed to relieve poverty. And yes, at one time, and it may still be an ongoing program for all I know, there indeed was a government anti-poverty program that gave out free cheese and other foodstuffs to the poor.
Now put all that info together. We're told that most blacks are poor. We're told that poor people get free cheese from the government. Most government poverty programs were instituted by Democrats. We're told most blacks vote Democrat. Most thinking and rational people, seeing what the results of these various programs are, can see that that which ostensibly was designed to help poor (or poor black) people does nothing to lift them out of poverty, but on the contrary insures that they are ENSLAVED to a lifetime of poverty and dependance upon more and more government programs which are perpetually promised to them by those same people who are responsible for their captivity, and they keep supporting them. Given that scenario then its reasonable that one may be led to the conclusion, whether true or not, that people in that situation "want" to remain there.
THAT, I believe, is the point that Dirk was trying to make, in his horrendously clumsy way. That sentiment is a political philosophy, NOT a racist one and in fact, I happen to agree with it. The POOR, whether they are black, white, or otherwise, in my opinion, indeed ARE enslaved by government poverty programs yet continue to vote for those that are doing them more harm than good. Now, if you want to start banning people based on whether or not their political philosophy happens to agree with yours then you'd better start with me, and you'd damned well better hire some help because you're going to be awfully busy.
