Would that include clocking them at their rated 250MHZ (500MHZ effective DDR)? Or only if you clock them at 400MHz DDR should you have the voltage lower.
I purchased this RAM at NewEgg, and it said the default volatge was 2.8V. Does that mean only if running at 500MHz DDR or higher?
I currently have mine clocked at 258MHz (516MHz effective DDR) with timings of 3-3-2-5. So far, it has been rock stable with dual instances of Prime95 running a custom test for each CPU with 900MB of RAM allocated for each instance, so both CPU cores and almost all of my RAM are being stressed.
WOuld I be able to run my RAM at 258MHz stable with 2.5V or 2.6V. So far, perfectly stable at 2.85V at 258MHz.
Yes...my pair will run 270 at 2.55 - 2.6V and it will run 250 (DDR500) at 2.42V (I have the expert which goes that low).
If your's are not stable at 2.5V, that is fine...you are fine at 2.85V also....I just suggested that you try lower.....lower is always better, less heat, etc 😀

How come on NewEgg, it says 2.8V next to the description of the RAM when you purchase it?

That is wrongfully misleading to people such as myself because I have it running at 2.8V.
It is fine that you have it running at 2.8....leave it there....no worries 🙂
I simply tried to point out that these modules, since their release, through testing by myself and other techs, have shown great results at even lower voltages.
Don't run them over 3.045V which is the warranty limit and you are doing just fine.

I have an Ultra-D NF4 / opty 165 / and OCZ value VX with the bh5 chips.
my OCZ can do 200 FSB 2-2-2-6 with 3.0v , but anything higher then 200 FSB is a pain.
i'm currently on the 704-2bt bios.
right now i'm running my ram @ 229FSB 2-2-2-6 (280HTT w/ a 166 divider)

i tried cooling my ram with a large room fan and it put me stable @ 229 FSB 2-2-2-6 3.0v with the settings above
how ever i tried 239 and i get errors on superpi on core1 , i've tried 3.0v to 3.3v and it had no luck.

Give these timings a try. You may not need 3.3V to hit 239FSB so start lower and work your way up until you find stability. Cooling is a must once you hit 3.0V.

I am having a problem with my OCZ Platinum EL Dual Channel Memory (2GB, DDR400 @ 2-3-2-5, 1T) running at the rated 200 MHz (or DDR400).
My setup is as follows:
Asus A8N-E (Bios 1011 Final)
AMD Opteron 144 CAB2E Stepping
OCZ Platinum EL Dual Channel 2GB Kit, DDR400 @ 2-3-2-5, 1T
eVGA Geforce 7600 GT
OCZ PowerStream 520W ADJ-SLI (domestic North American version, so it's PFC I believe)
and the usual items!
I am unable to have the following settings applied successfully:
Memory Divider: 266 MHz
HTT Multiplier: 3x
HTT: 300
Multiplier: 9x (this is the max for my CPU)
VCore: 1.45V
DDR Core: 2.80V
Memory Settings: 2-3-2-5, 1T
* Effective CPU Speed = 2700 MHz
* Effective Memory Speed = 192 MHz (DDR 384) (2700 / 14 at Memory Divider of 266)
Now if I lower my Memory Divider to 200 MHz, I am able to have the machine post.
But the Effective Memory Speed is 150 MHz. This is underclocking the memory isn't it?
Therefore, the settings that DO work are:
Memory Divider: 200 MHz
HTT Multiplier: 3x
HTT: 300
Multiplier: 9x (this is the max for my CPU)
VCore: 1.45V
DDR Core: 2.80V

I've learned that the Effective Memory Speed ratios for the ASUS A8N-E are as follows:
Memory Divider of 400 (1:1) = CPU Speed / 9
Memory Divider of 333 (1:0.8325) = CPU Speed / 11
Memory Divider of 266 (1:0.665) = CPU Speed / 14
Memory Divider of 200 (1:0.5) = CPU Speed / 18
Theoretically, I should be able to run the CPU and Memory at DDR400 at the following settings:
1) CPU = 1800 MHz ( 1:1) 200 x 9 / 9 = 200 MHz * Works (Stock!)
2) CPU = 2200 MHz (1:0.8325) 244 x 9 / 11 = 200 MHz * Does Not Work / Does Not POST
3) CPU = 2800 MHz (1:0.665) 311 x 9 / 14 = 200 MHz * Does Not Work / Does Not POST
4) CPU = 3600 MHz (1:0.5) 400 x 9 / 18 = 200 MHz * Honestly I've never tried ths, and I won't because I'm just pushing my luck =P
Why am I unable to to run the memory at DDR400 at settings 2) and 3) ?

after recieveing a replacement of this motherboard i have a new problem
the 3/2 divider doesnt work , its broken . everytime i use this setting i can raise the fsb of the cpu to go higher than stock. it just changes back to stock speed on me
knowing this now i am wondering is there some timings i can use on this board for this memory to reach 250 fsb. that is what is needed at this time in order to overclock the cpu useing the 6/5 setting in bios that does work

It seems that this board is very picky with its divider settings, and does not like the 266 divider at higher HTT (fsb) settings using tighter memory timings.
I tried to relax the timings as per the replies, to 3-4-4-8, 2T.
Unfortunately it still did not post at 300 x 9, using a 266 Divider.
But I have finally found the sweet spot for my particular processor.
I was able to achieve a stable 2.6 GHz clock speed, at DDR 470+!
HTT (fsb) = 289
Multiplier = 9x
VCore = 1.4125
DDR VCore = 2.80V
Memory Timings = 2.5-3-2-5, 1T
Memory Divider = 333 (1:0.83)
HT Link Multiplier = 3x
PCI Clock = 100 MHz
PCI Sync Clock = 33.33 MHz
* Effective CPU Speed = 2601 Mhz (2.60 GHz!!!)
* Effective Memory Speed = 236.5 MHz (DDR473!!!)
It's on its 16th hour in (stress)Prime95 right now, and I'm quite happy about the results.
Load temp is 38-41C, idle temp is 29-31C.
I'm going to run memtest to ensure the memory is working at this speed.
