You could put me on Detroit's blueline and things would probably go smoothly enough.

Lol, it's not that good....but with Stuart back they are a lot better.....i really do think that Boston overpaid for what could be a rental player. He's a very good puck moving defenceman and good on the powerplay, can play 22+ solid minutes a game.

Lemieux's hypocrisy is pretty disgusting.
Not sure what shades he's got on, but he might wanna take them off & see the real world out there.

Also, yay Oilers, solid win over the Stars tonight 😀

The Stars are done for the season I think. They shot their wad and are done.
Dallas was 8-3 in Jan.
After the allstar break they are 1-8.
That's some sad crap right there.

How is Langenbrunner working out? The Devils went from sucking to winning immediately after we traded him. Sounds like the Stars started sucking shortly after that.

I'm rooting for the Stars to at least make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs this year, or re-sign Langenbrunner so we get our 2nd round draft pick.

I wanted him in Philly really bad. I think we might have dodged a bullet. I don't get it, he still has gas in the tank, and he's never been known as a guy with a bad attitude.

Holy blockbuster! Colorado sends Chris Stewart, Kevin Shattenkirk and a conditional 2nd round pick to the Blues for Erik Johnson, Jay McClement and a conditional first!

wow :Q

im waiting to see what the hurricanes do, if anything else, before the deadline.

game vs philly last night: pretty sure the flyers gifted the hurricanes the 1st period. some parts of that game were great, some were ridiculously terrible. its so frustrating to root for the canes sometimes...totally missed 2 open-net shots (why the hell was bobrovsky out of the crease like that?) and completely wasted a 5-on-3 (for the 4th time this season, what a horrible hockey team)

speaking of bobrovsky...what a great fucking goalie that kid is. made some tremendous saves last night that left everyone drop-jawed

also the retirement ceremony was nice....the house roared from philly and carolina fans both. I love that...a full house that cant stop cheering is a lot of fun.

I think he's been pretty terrible, which is too bad for the reasons you cited. I heard that he was just dropped off the scoring line.

I think either condition - Dallas winning a round in the playoffs or resigning Langenbrunner seems unlikely. Even if they decided they wanted to keep Jamie, I don't think they sign him just because it's not worth losing the 2nd rounder.

We love Brind'amour, man. He was a great Flyer. Glad to see he won a cup, sucked it wasn't with us, but he deserved it.

Most fans that I'm reading are writing off last night's loss as an emotional win for the Canes. But the Flyers played a horrible game. The first period was definitely a gift, but the second two were gifted right back and Philly didn't know what to do with it.

The Flyers are not going to beat good teams without a slot/crease presence. This team is way too content to dog it and play from the offensive perimeter. That's not going to win in the playoffs.

Flyers never figured out a way to replace Mike Knuble properly.

I thought Hartnell would be the guy to fill his role but he isn't as gritty in the same way as Mike.

JVR could be that guy if he develops more physicality into his game.

We could use a guy like Arnott.

Knuble was remembered fondly, but he was also a turnover machine. I mean, no worse than the current crop of players, but he coughed the puck up a lot. I miss him though.

JVR should be that guy. Hartnell used to at least try, but stopped. I'm not sure what's going to happen in the playoffs. Remember last year when Pronger started skating into the middle?

The only drawback to using prongs down low is you don't get that big shot from the blueline.

Knuble was a good Flyer, even though he skated like there was oatmeal on the ice. Not the guy you wanted carrying the puck but from 5 feet in he could get it done.

Bruins got Kaberle. And they got rid of Wheeler in part of the dealings. Most felt like he was an underperformer. They also basically worsened Toronto in taking Kaberle so now their pick (the Bruins actually) might be even better.

Devils 😀

10 points back from Carolina, 12 back from Rangers, we have one game in hand vs both.

They play each other this week (fingers crossed for a 2 point game), then they each play 2 tough teams.

We play the floundering Stars, the Lightning who we beat twice (by 3 goals each) at the start of our turnaround, and the Panthers (1 win, 2 OTL during this stretch). Fingers crossed for a single digit point deficit.

I got my parents' awesome tickets for the game against the Lightning on Feburary 2, lower bowl near center ice (in front of the Fire Lounge - yeah free food and soda).

to be fair, its not like the flyers *need* a win right now. they can get into the playoffs easily at this point, so maybe half assing it was just taking a break?

the hurricanes need points desperately if they want to stay in the playoff spot. I really dont expect them to hang on to it very long. jersey might actually run up, but a couple other teams will have a chance as well.

They definitely no-showed against the devils last night. That game was over at the 2nd goal, and I left halfway into the 2nd period because it was just so boring (*almost* as boring as the ottawa/toronto game that night). Maybe we can beat the rangers this week, probably not pittsburgh or montreal.

The Flyers don't need a win right now, but it's been frustrating to watch them since the all star break. People are paying to watch these guys, so I want to see some effort.

This team could be dominant. The blue line is the deepest in the league and our forward depth is pretty good too. But instead, we have a situation where all shooting comes from the perimeter, no one plays in the slot to look for rebounds, etc. And all of a sudden the team can't score. Whatever bad habits are going on right now, they need to stop. Otherwise, it's going to be just like the Caps last season once they hit the playoffs.

With about 25 or so games left, its time to tune up for playoff hockey. I don't see the Flyers doing that right now. And don't get me started on Laviolette's handling of Zherdev.

i havent paid super attention to the flyers...but they definitely have the talent to get to the cup finals again if they play properly. theyre a very capable team
/i have 4 of them on my fantasy team.

my daydream hope is to see the hurricanes bump up over new york so we dont meet the flyers in round one...but again, i dont expect to see round one anyway. meh.
/i dont have any of them on my fantasy team

As an Avs fan, I absolutely HATE this trade. Stewart's one of the real up-and-coming power forwards and is already averaging close to a point a game. Shattenkirk's been highly touted ever since he was drafted. And of course, look at what they did for the Blues last night. It figures that they both put up points and Anderson gets his first shutout of the season while the Avalanche lose yet again.

The NW Division has been very competitive the past few Seasons, except this season where the Canucks have pulled way ahead. I think the Avs are looking longterm and trying to get back to a competitive position. Don't know many details of the Avs situation, perhaps the Owners are just trying to ensure Profitability?

Today was a decent day for hockey. The games themselves were fairly competitive, but sort of boring. The Flyers won a snooze fest, and the other day games were kind of boring and ended up in a shootout (the worst possible finish, IMHO). The Heritage Classic was fun to watch b/c it was outdoors and the crowd was into it, but it wasn't really a close game.

They need to get rid of the shootout. Really. OTOH, 4 on 4 hockey is really exciting. They should switch to a 10 minute 4 on 4 format, 5 mins of 3 on 3, and a tie after that. I'd rather see a tie than a shootout.

Agree, I hate the shootout. Not really sure about the 3v3. My choice would be 10 min 4v4 and then a tie. But the shootout is "for the fans" so I doubt it's going anywhere. I still think you need to guarantee a point in OT to prevent teams from playing too conservatively.
