Not really, it just shows that the coaching scheme is...let Peyton do it. Without a very talented QB, they can do nothing right. In fact, the coaching for this organization has been exposed for since they lost to the Jets in the playoffs.You would think their would be a back up plan to at least be 500 on the season....but no. You have Painter.

In Painter's defense, he has played very well lately. He is getting no help.

The coaching of this team was exposed long before last year's playoff loss. Try the Super Bowl against New Orleans. People have been calling for Caldwell's head since then (and to a lesser extent, Polian) but the cries are increasing. Polian's recent drafting ineptitude has caught up to the Colts and placed them into a situation where the holes that needed to be filled weren't filled and the depth Polian thought he was building never happened. My god, Donald Brown and Jerry Hughes (2 recent #1 picks) are third or fourth string now. They're that bad!

The fact is, Peyton covered all these issues. No other QB in the league today and maybe none in history could carry a team like he can. If he would've had a good defense surrounding him for most of his career, they would've won 2 or 3 more Super Bowls -- I have no doubt of that.

Whatever he does, he's going to get stuck with a shitty (sorry ICF) team, a team where basically every part of it doesn't work. Idiot owners, incompetent coaches, and who knows what is wrong with all the players. Even if he waits a year, it won't change that.

Or drop from the unanimous #1 overall pick in 2005 to the 10th overall pick in 2006 and bounce around as a career backup (I'm looking at you, Leinhart!).
 
You know, now that i think about it, it could be that the Raiders get a really good QB/Offensive coach out of the deal.

...not that it's worth trading for two first round picks. wow.

The Raiders are a rather solid team, though their secondary took a hit in the off season. Their weakness has always been at QB, and going to Palmer is a big upgrade.

Palmer has been on a big slide over the last 5 seasons that he actually played.

That, he's injury-prone, and hasn't played in what--almost 2 years?

I like Palmer, I think "maybe" he can help, but he's hardly an upgrade over Campbell (not that it counts, really, b/c Campbell isn't a factor in the discussion) who has been surprisingly good this year.

I think the Raiders are a very good team this year, but trading for a guy who probably isn't an improvement over someone like Boller, at this point, for the future of your team (2 high draft picks) is incredibly stupid.

I question what they did to try and go after Orton. Obviously not a lot, considering Orton is worth more than Palmer. Palmer still isn't terrible - you say he hit a slide, but look at his stats:

He started getting sacked more - that could attribute what happened and cause him to "slide."

could be. The Raiders are certainly a better team with a much better line than his most recent Bungles squads.

....but 2 first round pics for a guy that hasn't been a top-tier QB in 6 years?

lolno. I think his history of injuries lead one to believe that he he will last maybe 2 seasons with the Raiders. I'd like to see him make some sort of Favre-like resurgence...but he never was a Favre caliber to begin with.

We'll see, of course. I don't expect he'll be playing for another week or two, right?

Nothing until the fifth round.

I get the idea... this is the best Raiders team in a decade, and they don't want to lose momentum this season. There's no way they're winning the superbowl, though, and they're scuttling their chances of improving over the next five years.

Not only that, but does anybody really know if Carson Palmer will be any good? You could make the argument that he had to deal with the TO/Ocho antics and lack of production over the past couple years, but that doesn't mean he'll be any better throwing to Darius Heyward-Bey.
 
I just wonder if GMs around the league start to foam at the mouth the minute they realize they have a legit shot to strike a 'deal' with the Raiders.
