What do you think of Matt Barkley of USC and Landry Jones of Oklahoma? I am not positive, but wouldn't they be 2 and 3 behind Luck in the QB dept? Indy should have a very realistic shot at the second QB chosen, do you think they will draft a QB if Luck is off the board?

I don't know much about the others to be honest; the only thing I do know is that Luck is regarded as the highest rated prospect since Manning came out in 98.

Will the Colts draft another QB if they can't get Luck? Doubtful, and I am still not even convinced they take Luck if they have the chance. They should, IMO, because they're not going to have a draft pick this high until Manning calls it quits. I'd be shocked if they don't return to playoff form next year.

Some think that if the Colts are in a position to get Luck, they should trade the pick for a bunch of picks/players and give Manning another couple of chances to win another Super Bowl. I disagree with that logic for the following two reasons:

1. Manning won a Super Bowl with a defense that sucked in the regular season but got it together in the playoffs. It can be done again with minor personnel upgrades on defense.

2. Polian has consistently screwed up high draft picks.

Therefore, I'm of the opinion that you take Luck and then fill other needs using the other drafts picks or free agency. I personally think their issues are due more to coaching than personnel and it remains to be seen if Irsay will do the right thing and fire Caldwell, Coyer, and Christensen and slap Polian for screwing up so many #1 picks. If I were a betting man, I'd say Coyer is toast and Caldwell and Christensen get a pass unless they go 0-16, in which case they call get canned.

Luck sitting behind Manning for 3 years >>>> any top QB pick in the next 5 or 6 years.

The entire Colts organization is only functional because of Peyton Manning.

Peyton Manning should win the NFL MVP this year as I think this injury has shown, without a shadow of a doubt, that he is easily the single most valuable player in the league. Without Manning, the incompetence of Polian, Caldwell, Coyer, Christensen, and the other coaching idiots has been fully exposed.

There is also talk that they're going to cut Wayne loose after this year so they may look for a wide receiver high in the draft if they can't get Luck.

That's dumb, they need to upgrade their defense and offensive line before they start looking at WRs in the early rounds. Unless there's a real true talent they can get - ie not donald brown or anthony gonzalez. Peyton can get it done with whatever you give him.

Donald Brown, Anthony Gonzalez, and Jerry Hughes -- the trifecta of boneheaded #1 picks from Bill Polian. Rather than picking up positions they needed -- offensive linemen, cornerbacks, or safeties -- let's pick positions where we already have established stars just for "depth" and ignore the stuff we REALLY need.

Well, to be fair, I think you shoudl always pick BPA rather than need... except in the case of RB/FB. I really think in teh case of Brown/Gonzalez that they tried to reach for skill players to surround Peyton with "weapons." I just can't believe Bill Polian is that bad at scouting.

Even better was his rationale for picking Hughes -- a big reason the Colts lost the SB to New Orleans was because Freeney was injured and he was tearing the Saints up before that. In Polian La-La land, that translates into spending a #1 pick to get "depth" at that position.

The Colts O-line has been falling apart for years and while you could argue that Gonzalez may have been an OK pick at that time since he was intended to replace Harrison, Brown was inexplicable since their run problems have been related to poor run blocking by the offensive line.

Lost in these discussions was Polian's "lost" #1 pick -- the pick he traded to the 49ers to secure the rights to draft Tony Ugoh in the second round. Ugoh is no longer in the league and he was drafted in 2007.

I would too -- for the Colts. Caldwell is an incompetent buffoon and I do enjoy reading the Indy Star after each loss and seeing him torn to pieces by fans.

Indianapolis is boring as fuck. No way would Chucky agree to live there.

No, it just shows that the entire Colts organization is USELESS - come to term with that. :p

They are at this time, but weren't always useless. I think Polian is getting senile.

But hey, cheer up -- when the Pats get embarrassed and bounced out of the playoffs again, you'll always have next year to look forward to for yet another embarrassing loss. :D

He'd be foolish to stay another year IMO. If he makes it through this year unscathed and performs well, now is the time to jump. His stock won't improve from this point. He can only hurt himself, not help.

Unless he gets a career ending injury, I don't think his stock will drop. He could get injured for his entire senior season and still go #1. See Sam Bradford.

I don't think I'd take that risk if I were him. That is a big if and when he is assured of making millions and playing for the Colts ( :awe: ), he'd be insane not to jump. Now if the Dolphins own the top spot, maybe he should stay put. :D

See Matt Leinart. I know Luck is much better than Leinart but Leinart went from a unanymous #1 pick his Jr. year to dropping to #10 his senior. Lots of things can change.

LOL...maybe so, but I don't think there is a lot of wisdom in building a team with such a glaring single point of failure. Don't get me wrong, most teams are in for some rough times if the star QB is out but usually they can at least make something happen if the rest of the team is sound. A lot of people make a big deal about Peyton being such a huge part of the team, but I think the last thing a QB needs is more responsibilities.

I don't disagree but to be honest, I tend to think most of the Colts problems are with coaching. I think they do have the personnel to win games without Manning. Maybe not be a playoff team, but they should be able to win games here and there. Caldwell's incompetence is astounding.
