I think Manning is a better QB than Brady, but I don't know if either of them will definitely be the "greatest of all time." Passing with these new rules is just too easy, with all unnecessary roughness calls both against pass rushers and the secondary, in addition to the fact that you can't touch wide receivers. When we see several guys putting up 400 yard games, enough is enough.

I do agree with the bolded, which makes comparing players from different eras so difficult.

Part of me wonders if the Colts would use a #1 pick on Luck rather than give Painter a chance, especially if he ends up winning a few games. Painter isn't all that bad, IMO. He has a strong arm and all of the games he's played in so far have been 1 score games. He needs to improve his accuracy, but look at his "career" stats - less than 100 attempts and like two regular season starts. Manning will be back next year, I could see the Colts not take Luck in the first round and have Manning mentor Painter much like Favre mentored Rodgers.

Assuming the Colts land the first or second overall pick, some people feel that they should trade it off and build through the acquired picks/players to build a team to give Manning one or two more shots. My own opinion is that Polian should've been doing that over the last 2 to 3 years instead of wasting high draft picks on the likes of Jerry Hughes and Donald Brown.

My outlook is this -- if the Colts have the chance to take the guy who is arguably seen as the best college QB prospect since Manning, they pretty much have to take him and concentrate on adding the necessary supporting cast through FA and the rest of the draft. Unless something drastic happens, Manning will be back next year, the Colts will play a last place schedule, and more than likely, they're going to be a playoff team again and for the next few years. This is probably their only shot at getting a good replacement for Manning and if they don't, the Colts are probably sunk for several years after Manning retires.

Bill Polian and Caldwell are already on the verge of being run out of town and if they have a shot at Luck and don't take it, they are going to be sent packing.

Also, another note about Painter -- many may not remember, but a few short years ago, Painter was projected as a first-round pick coming out of Purdue. I think that was after his sopohomore season IIRC and he had an injury and then an erratic senior season which dropped him into the low rounds.

That's certainly news to me.

I'll see if I can find the article from a few years back. He was being projected as the third or fourth QB prospect in the draft and projected anywhere from the middle of the first round to the early second round. Of course, that's when he was a sophomore (IIRC) and he didn't come out in the draft that year.

I just don't get it with Painter. He looked VERY good in the 1st half. Almost every throw was perfect, right where it needed to be. He was even adjusting calls based on reading the defense. He's had flashes of being pretty darn good, but somehow he can't keep it going for an entire game.

His confidence seems to be improving which is a good thing.

I missed the first half, but the play calling in the second half seemed to put him in some bad positions and unfortunately, he couldn't make the throws.

Manning beats him in every one of those facets, esp. reading defenses. I've watched both for years, and there is no comparison -- Manning by a mile.

Saying Manning is better than Brady is OK. Saying Manning is better than Brady "by a mile" is just outright ridiculous. C'mon now.

I guess what separates Brady from Manning for me is the clutch play. There was a point in Brady's career when he got the ball with his team down a touchdown there was no doubt in anyone's mind they were going to get the touchdown needed to win. I never saw that with Peyton. In fact Brady owned the head to head matchups vs Peyton.

Eh? that's what Peyton was known for--far more than Brady.

lest you forget him coming back from 24 points and beating the Bucs with 3 minutes left in the game

Leaping!

At first he did, but not as much recently. The Colts beat the Pats 4 or 5 times in a row before the Pats finally got one.

Two of the biggest chokes in recent history were on Brady teams -- SB 42 and the AFC Championship against the Colts the year before. The AFC Championship choke was particularly gratifying for me since the Pats lost an 18-point lead and then the excuses started flowing from Boston. "Bu...bu...bu...but Peyton has all the offensive talent!" Yeah? What happened the following year once the Patriots addressed their "lack" of offensive talent? That's right, SB 42!

Oh, and before the Pats fan brigade chime in, yes, you can blame the Pats offensive line or defense all you want, but you can say the exact same thing in the games Peyton lost and was branded a choker. As the Pats have recently learned, and us Colts fans have been saying FOR YEARS, you can't win without a complete team and a decent defense. I find it amusing listening to Pats fans whining about their defense and blaming that because when Colts fans did the same, we were told we were "making excuses for Manning."

2006 AFC Championship game -- Colts down 18 to the Pats late in the first half and cut it to 15 right before half time. Manning ate the Patriots for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner in the second half while Brady handed the Colts the game with a toss right into Marlin Jackson's hands. :D

Colts and Texans have been bitten hard by the injury bug.

Also just read that Josh Morgan(WR for the niners) broke his leg. DAMNIT!
