No way, Minnesota is the biggest surprise thus far

They are in the same boat for me, I think people gave up the ghost for Minnesota because they are in a tough division that had 3 other legit playoff contenders (though I sort of expected the Lions to take a step back). Adrian Peterson has come off the injury strong and Percy Harvin is a beast. I don't think Ponder is the second coming of Peyton Manning by any means but he is getting the job done.

Minnesota still has a tough schedule with the rest of the NFC West (though they put the beat down on San Fran) the Packers twice, the Bears twice and the Texans. It will be interesting to see how the 2nd half of the season fares for them.

NFC West in general is my biggest surprise. Yeah, we knew SFO would be decent but Seattle, Arizona and now even St Louis are playing very solid football. That's a competitive conference that flies under the radar. NFC South is the most disappointing. ATL is good, but the rest it total crap. Was expecting more out of Tampa with their offseason pickups, hoped that Carolina would mature more, and did not expect NO to only have 1 win at this point.

I agree with some of what you're saying. However I knew St Louis would be improved with a real HC in Jeff Fisher because they had the talent there just not the coaching. Arizona is surprising for sure as well as Seattle but they aren't nearly as good as their records suggest. It will all become balanced as we progress through the season and SF will walk away with that division.

Seattle has a decent defense, and we knew that. Otherwise they already won one game that everyone in the world knows that GB won. Arizona surprised NE week one and then has somehow continued with their great defense. Their D is legit, but they have absolutely no running game even before Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams went down it was suspect, and their Offense all around lacks so much.

Things will balance out in that division and the end results will be a lot closer to what we would have suspected, its only 1/3 through the season.

One thing that surprised the hell out of me this morning, the Broncos picked up Trindon Holiday on the waiver wire and I find out the Colts also placed a claim for him, but the Broncos got him because the Colts have a better record. LOL. Really?

The Broncos have lost to the best teams in the league (Houston and Atlanta) and got schooled by Tom Brady in his house. However, the second half of our schedule looks much better. As long as we can beat the Chargers in SD on Monday night, we shouldn't have any issues after the bye the week after.

But Luck is LEGIT!! I can't believe people actually thought RG3 would be better than Luck. He might have had more upside in some aspects of his game, but Luck is clearly the next great QB in this league. Will fall in nicely with Brees, Manning, Brady, Rodgers and Matty Ice as the clear elite QB's.

Cam Newton is exactly what I thought he was. I was never sold on him last year. I don't believe in him for a second.

Totally agree with you. I knew Atlanta would be pretty good but I really thought Carolina would have been a little better. Cam Newton's numbers have gone down for the most part compared to this same time last year.

The Saints are certainly a disappointment so far but I knew that there was a chance they would struggle after the whole off season debacle. I really thought they made some moves offseason to improve the defense and they would have a decent running game with the talent on the depth chart which has proven to be totally false.

I think the Broncos are going to win the division. The Raiders & Chiefs stink and the Chargers are an illusion of a good team.

In all of the Broncos losses it has been a tail of two halves, they show up slow but turn it up later in the game. If they can be more solid throughout the game they could easily be heading for a 10-6 or 11-5 season, they have the talent for sure.

From what I saw vs Pat's the defense could not get off the field on 3rd down, Manning is still as accurate as ever but they need more time of possession. They have played a tough schedule so far TBH..

Here is the Broncos new special teams weapon

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUokjdxJoEw

This is what he did this preseason for the Texans.

When he played for LSU, he was the fastest player in college HISTORY! He's a little guy at 5'5' but he could easily be a Darren Sproles type. I'd like to see him used in that fashion for us and not just punt/kick returns. /Crosses fingers

Houston didn't need him as a return man and he was considered to be eating a roster spot.

The Broncos were in need of a return specialist more than any other team in the league. We have had our safety Jim Leonhard "returning" punts. Basically he was being used because he has sure hands and although he was only getting 7 yards after the catch, we knew he would catch it.

For the record, Mike Mayock has got to be one of the WORST football commentators around. I swear to god if I have to hear him say, "I'd like to see him do this instead..."

Dude, Mike... you're not on the field in that position, nor are you the coach. If you'd like to see the player do that instead, either be the player or become a friggin coach!

As much as I like Cee-Lo normally, I could really do without that Thursday Night Football opener.

The few times I've watched Thursday night games, I've been very unimpressed with the commentary. The only worse commentary was when Chris Berman tried to do the play-by-play for a Monday night game this year. He sounded like just some random football fan watching the game.

I like Mike Mayock, I think some of the insights/stories he has are interesting. Whenever he mentions that he'd like to see a player used in a certain way, he'll give reasons why those would fit the player's strengths, and essentially give you some sort of scouting report on that player. Given his draft knowledge and background, it makes sense.

The stories were okay, got a little annoying after having pulled out a few too many of the almost-gramps-like "back when such-and-such". But seriously. Every... single... play...

"I'd liked to have seen him cut inside here."

"I'd like to have him follow his blockers here."

"I'd rather he not cut it up inside here and just trust the play."

Dude... NOBODY GIVE A SHIT WHAT YOU THINK!

Poor Nessler gets maybe 20% airtime considering Mayock just won't shut up.

I guess it could get really bad if you watch the whole game. Fortunately for me, every single Thursday night game has been just awful.

Is it me, or the Giants whine like a bunch of school girls? ” we've got lots of injuries” - Tom; ” my salsa dance is sacred” - Victor; ” Smith gets away with murder” - Gilbride; whiny face - Eli.

Quit yer whining.

It looks like he's saying "I finally fucked Super Bowl". In my head it comes out it kind of a manchild caveman voice.

I thought that this season would be a letdown for the Ravens. While I don't want to get too optimistic too soon it looks like their division is very weak this year and they'll really need to screw up not to make it to the playoffs.

They'll make it to the playoffs without question, the issue comes around on whether or not they can win a SB. Suggs comes back healthy, and this might be their last chance. If its not, the window is still closing soon, maybe one more year of Ed Reed and Ray Lewis and then the window has closed.

I think speed is all he got.

He is short (even for avg folks like us), so no go as go to receiver.

He is not big, so no go as running back.

I think when he was at LSU, all he did was KO/PU return and a little of receiving/running in unique situations or as decoy.

The Dolphins have got to be the most surprising team for me. After watching hard knocks I was dead set on them getting maybe 2 wins this year max and had no faith in their new head coach.

However I was totally wrong, they are a pretty good team. Tannehill is looking decent, I like their running backs and they have a solid run defense. Schedule is pretty tough though, still have to face the rest of the NFC West and the Patriots twice. I think even a 7-9 or 8-8 season would be a success for the franchise at this point but I would not be surprised if they managed to get into the playoffs on a wildcard.

I think that with a few more play makers on offense they would be a legit playoff contender.

Dunno about wildcard but as I said, anything is possible with the Fins when they play up to their pontential. It could not be worse than the 1-15 season a few years back with Cameron as HC.

Or it could have also been that he wasn't doing good this year too. He was only getting 19.4 yards on kick offs, that is pretty bad.
