Point is, it's never proper. In this game it went both ways. I'd say a 60/40 argument could be made it's Tate's ball (just because the DB gets leverage on the ground to twist his back to gain control of the ball, doesn't mean the TD hasn't already happened). The game overall was poorly officiated, and both teams had to deal with it.
With that said, another point I make is Seattle fans should feel no shame in walking away with a game where they got the break from officials. Again--we are the reason there is instant replay (Vinnie getting an extra inch on his helmet a decade ago). We are the only team I know of to get an apology from a Superbowl officiating chief for screwing up the game.
And after instant replay, they still couldn't call it correctly. And no Tate, did not make a reception.
