Seriously. Microsoft revamps their entire damn interface, and it's still easier and faster to install than a PS3 firmware update.

Overall, I'm pretty impressed. The content bits of the service are kinda unusable right now (lots of time-outs), but I figure those will fix themselves in a day or two.

I agree that this is weird. My guess is that they were getting nailed with a ton of support calls from people who didn't know how to change their video source. In any event, it's no worse than the PS3's implementation.

2. I believe fewer videos/folders are displayed on the screen at one time when scrolling through video folders.

I'm not sure about that - I don't think it's the case. It would certainly be nice to be able to tell it "hey, my eyesight is good, squeeze 'em in".

3. IIRC, previously when you hit A on a video file, it would start playing (or prompt you to resume or restart if you had previously watched part of the file). Now it always takes you to an additional screen where you have to click play. WHY???? There is only one option on that screen! Yeah, I would occasionally accidentally start a video on the old dash. I can live with that though!

Did you try hitting Y? Hitting A will select, but Y is clearly labeled as the play button.

Just installed my update. Took maybe 4 minutes. I'm getting "Can't retrieve information from Xbox Live. Please try again later" message on some things like Netflix.

My original plan was to wait until after work to let everybody else be the first ones to update, just to ensure there were no major problems. But alas, I had extra time this morning after getting out of the shower, and I just couldn't hold myself back :).

Since installation time was talked about previously, I loosely timed the install with the analog clock on the wall. From the moment I selected "Yes, Update Now" after signing in to when the screen popped up and said installation was complete, it was right at 2 minutes and 45 seconds. Pretty snappy for a complete overhaul.

I quickly made an avatar, and was pleased with the options. I've read other people's thoughts that the Wii's Miis had more options, but when I had my Wii, I don't remember it having any more options than the Avatars do. I was able to create my likeness pretty easily, and it's pretty close to what I look like:

I didn't go into anything in detail because I was running out of time, but the interface is quick and satisfying, and everything looks fantastic. Can't wait to get home tonight and check it out more in depth.

I also downloaded the update this morning. Took exactly 2 minutes to get the update, probably no more than 3 total including the initial update and restart. I was hoping to setup Netflix so I could browse the HD selection but the Netflix activation page says "Device activation is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in 2 hours." Oh well, I'll just have to try it out tonight when I get home.

Major Nelson with a top 10 list of things to do when you first try out nxe.

I appreciate that I can take out the 0 gamerscore games from all the xbla demos I've tried years ago.

Here is my avatar. Looks quite a lot like me quite frankly.

If I'm not mistaken, Microsoft requires all XNA developers to charge a minimum for their games, which is $2.50. I could be wrong, though.

I saw one that was 800 points, though. That's a little over the top.

$2.50 as a minimum isn't so horrible, I guess, especially if we're able to figure out the good from the bad before we buy (review site?).

Yea I was asking around on the XNA forums about that, you are not allowed to give your game away. I wonder if you have to put restrictions on the trial game though....

Wait, how do you do this! I've got a TON of games I need to remove.

Another question, I got a code to download a NXE theme when I preordered Gears 2. I didn't see a tab in the marketplace to enter a code, how do I do this?

Overall I gotta say the new interface is pretty slick, but personally there's ALOT of jumble that I'll never use.

That was really quick. I started it this morning as I thought it'd be going for 30 or so minutes and I'd just check it after classes. Nope, done before I could make some food.

Is anyone able to sign in to Xbox.com? The Sign In link isn't showing up at all. I thought maybe I could browse the Marketplace from there, but I guess they don't have that up and running yet.

I think Live is having issues right now. The new Arcade game, Kingdom of Keflings can't be downloaded and I'm getting other error messages.

This is fucking shit.. Avatars? What am i 12 now? Really not happy with this new interface and the fact it was forced on us.. The game installs etc can only be good but the user interface is horrible. I liked the simplicity of PS3 and the original interface much much more.

Damnit, of course now the Netflix activation page is up... when I'm at work!
