Assuming it's like CoD 4 the new maps should be in the other playlists as well. The Stimulus playlists ONLY have the new maps though.

As if paying 1200 points wasnt enough, I have to buy them in 500 point increments. So
after tax, I got charged basically a solid $20. That really pisses me off.

After a month off the train and the high price, looks like I'm the only one of my group to actually buy them, which makes it even worse.

I expected a little more from overgrown and crash, at least some sort of graphics touchup, but as far as I can tell, theyre straight ports. Given how many great COD4 maps there were, and how ridiculously easy it must be to port them, they should release at a few more of the older ones.

I generally think the new maps are great, especially the junkyard one, but I still cant help but feel a little bit cheated by the whole thing. They might sell a bunch of these at $15, but I seriously dont know about buying the next one. There's no one that loves MW2 as much as me, and if I'M doubting buying new maps, then Activision is really fucking up here.

Well over 5 hours straight of playing and wish I would have known about not being able to pick the game type. I wouldnt have bought them until they had that fixed or if they arent going to I wouldnt have bought them all.

The maps are ok but I get stuck playing headquarter pro and sabotage almost the entire time. Only played team deathmatch 1 which is totally messed up imo.

...did you try playing just TDM? I assume that all the new maps are in the other playlists as well, but the two Stimulus playlists included ONLY have the new maps...

If they do, I'm sure theyll get voted down almost immediately. That was a long time problem with world at war - once the maps left the specific map pack rotation, you could never play them again because no one had them.

I hope they at least make a TDM section.

I have to say, I really like the salvage map - its close and dirty, really makes SMGs and shotguns shine. But its not small like the cargo yard or the fun house from COD4, just very twisty, and there's almost no verticality.

They werent on it. Supposedly they are putting them in today on the rest of the playlists . I dont know if this will happen or not. If they do, they will probably screw up all of MW2 multiplayer in the process. lol

Just disappointing they didnt have this done yesterday. I dont understand why they didnt do it for at least team deathmatch as it is the most popular mp they have.

Agreed being forced to play other games is a PITA. Overall I don't mind Demolition or Sabotage but HQ I cannot stand. We should be able to pick the "rooms" we want to be in just like the main lobby.

Maps - Mixed on it mostly because I got absolutely freakin' owned on all of them. They look nice and are done well but holy moly I got got killed so many times it wasn't even funny. Every damn nook and cranny on every map I got killed from many times. Not from campers so much but there are just so many tight spots, hiding spots etc on these new maps that I just sucked at them.

Bailout I would say is my fav of the new ones with Storm a close second. Salvage is pretty good but as said its very tight. Overgrown was ok. The map is not bad but I just didn't care for the "look and feel" of it. Granted the only games I played on were HQ so that may have skewed my opinion.

This leads me to Crash (which all of you seem to hold in very high regard) -- well I cannot decide if I like it or not. Like the other maps I got totally and completely owned on it every time. I was clearly playing against people who know this map well and knew where to look and where not to look. It's tight map with lots of verticality which is nice but also gets me killed a lot. My only issue is that it feels just like Invasion in MW2 (obviously for you original COD4 guys it would be the opposite for you ie Invasion feels like Crash) which is a map I like but it gave me that "rehashed" feeling. My guess is that in time I will like it just as I do Invasion but in the meantime it just feels repetitive. The 3 true new ones do not feel repetitive (but perhaps they remind you guys of COD4 maps ... again I don't know since I never did MP COD4).

I wouldn't mind seeing in the next map pack an all indoors White House battle. Lots of CQB and seeing that the White House/Washington DC area was a focus in the campaign I am surprised they haven't done one.

Anyway I thought like you guys the maps were good but the lack of ability to be in just a TDM room really sucks (hell I would settle for the set up they have if TDM came up more often -- like more than once out of 20 games last night please).

Love the levels, hate the playlists.

I hope they let you pick your game type eventually, no one is playing the actual games and they're just treating it like TDM.

That said, holy fuck the games I got into last night were so hard, I consider myself decent, I at least break even most of the time, but last night I was getting raped. I guess the hardcore MW2 players bought the maps first or something. Double XP is nice.

Like you said, you were playing against people who've been playing crash since August 2007 ;)

The new maps are VERY much like most of COD4's maps: close quarters with 3 - 4 main routes around the map and much less verticality (2 stories at most usually).

I personally LOVE the new maps (because I loved COD4's maps), but I also recognize that MW2'ers who never played COD4 will find them as "startling" as a lot of COD4 vets found MW2's maps.

Yeah, today they are supposed to go to all other playlists along with double XP. In CoD 4 the servers tried not to put map pack holders and non-map pack holders in the same lobbies. I played the CoD 4 DLC maps a ton (Broadcast being one of my overall favorites...the rest were crappy).

Crash is almost universally in every CoD 4 player's top 3 maps. You're going to be soured on it because you just don't know it but it was one of the most amazingly balanced games I've ever played. Personally I greatly prefer starting on the Force Reco...err...Ranger side but you don't feel hamstrung starting on the other.

You're not alone though, I got owned pretty hard last night as well. The only exception was a game of CTF on Crash where I did really well. The rest I got killed alot on because I refused to camp.

Oh...and Domination on Salvage = frusterating...I can't count the number of times I was M203'd while capping. You can capture it but almost every flag is a long alley way leading to it which is prime area for a grenade shot.

Broadcast being one of my overall favorites...the rest were crappy

I loved Broadcast and was indifferent to Creek, but I hated Chinatown so much that I deleted the pack a week or two after buying it. Chinatown ranked down there with Countdown as my least favorite map of COD4.

But the beauty of these new maps is, like someone else said, they make the SMGs relevant for a change. I love using the UMP and MP5K, but it's so hard to justify on most of the standard maps.

Wow, Crash is the dust of Modern Warfare? Is it "better" than the standard MW2 maps as well?

Yes and no.

First off, Crash is my all-time favorite map out of any game I've ever played. #2 right behind it is Crossfire, also from COD4.

I love having Crash in MW2, and much prefer COD4 map design over the "how much shit can we cram in here" design philosophy of MW2, but these smaller, tighter maps break down under MW2's killstreaks. For instance, you get a Chopper Gunner in the air on Crash, and you can kiss the other team's collective ass GOODBYE!

But yes, Crash > Crossfire > Dust > Face > *. MW2's maps aren't even on the radar. With some tweaking, Invasion and Karachi can be made into classics. Karachi could be a phenomenal map, but it needs to be de-cluttered and some of the roof access needs tempered.

.

And I guess this was my problem as well. I was moving around looking for the other team. I did finally camp for one whole game of Overgrown as it was 3rd game on the map in row and I was like the hell with it and sat near the CTF spot and sniped away.

Crash is to MW as:
Edge is to Q2
de_dust is to CS
Face to UT99

Sadly this means nothing to me as I was not an online gamer until very recently (about 2 years ago) and that was only to play Forza 2. MW2 is my first online gaming experience outside of that.

Exactly. In many games last night that was all it took (usually a harrier strike) and damn it was all but done. This was this case on Crash as well as Salvage.

Also on these smaller maps you can almost be assured that a predator missile will get you 2 kills easy as everyone is so much closer together.

I will admit I had really good game on Salvage (or was it Storm??) CTF as my last game as I got stuck defending our flag as my entire team kept leaving it unprotected and when it was captured NO ONE went after it. The other team was up 5 - 0 in a matter of seconds. The flag position was tucked back in a back alley that had 3 access points. 1 was on the left from a warehouse (covered with a claymore), a 2nd point from a warehouse on the left (easily covered from the dumpster in the alley) and then the main strip right down the middle -- again easy to cover.

Still got spanked but had a high kill rate and actually got a sentry gun and a predator but got tagged before I could get to Harrier.

I have come to realize the sentry gun KS is really nice to have in "objective/protect a spot" type games and started using it all the time last night.

Are you hating on de_dust? Do you not like CS?

Let's drop all bias here - de_dust is arguably the BEST team objective map that's been created. It's balance, with multiple attack paths, and defense paths - good teams can be devastating.

All the maps I listed are great - though Face is really one sided because it's a CTF map. But they all exhibit balance, without giving either side an advantage. That's why I think Crash falls in there ;)

Crossfire > Crash (probably my favorite maps on a video game ever as well). Broadcast, Vacant, Downpour, Strike, Backlot, and District were all excellent as well. That's what gets me, there were that many fantastic maps in CoD 4. In MW2 there's...well...I kinda like Highrise...kinda. Don't get me wrong, most are fun to play but none are even remotely close to the level of epic that the CoD 4 maps were.

I agree though, the killstreaks sort of ruin everything. Guy got chopper gunner on a game of Demolition yesterday on Overgrown...thankfully I was on his team because it was disgusting. He ended up 43-3.

Once again, if they would make "Modern Warfare Classic" or "No Killstreaks" playlists they'd be a hit, that's one of the biggest issues with the game.

No, I was just comparing the significance of the map compared to dust. I loved CS back in the day. Haven't played it in a while though...

So far my favorite map has been Wasteland. I just like how it's set up I guess.

Once again, if they would make "Modern Warfare Classic" or "No Killstreaks" playlists they'd be a hit, that's one of the biggest issues with the game.

This was actually something that 402 promised back in 2008 for COD4: a playlist with no killstreaks and no perks. It never happened, but I would LOVE to see that in MW2.

We have similar taste in maps. Highrise is good, but could be so much better. There's just too many places to camp and too many nooks and crannies, especially for such a small map. Vacant (COD4) was a SWEET map. I cleaned up more on that map than any other. It was sick. I'd put Backlot right behind Crossfire as my #3, and Strike was good, too.

The most popular suggestion for the next installment after COD4 was more killstreaks. It was on the tip of everyone's tongue: we could get something after 7 kills... we want to pilot an AC130. So IW focused on fulfilling that demand, but to accommodate that, the maps had to be changed drastically. You needed larger maps with more open spaces to support the new killstreaks.

I don't think anyone (IW or the fans) thought about the consequences of changing map design so much from COD4 to MW2. Making matters worse was a better-tuned game engine that allowed for more "stuff". Many of MW2's maps are filled with so much debris and clutter; it's sometimes difficult to see your targets as a result. If you'll notice, the new maps are stripped of all this crap. Storm is a bloody FANTASTIC map, but when you really stop to look at it, it's a relatively simple layout with very little eye candy (yet it still looks very nice).

Unreal went through similar growing pains. When Epic went from UT99 to UT2k3, they had a brand new engine to play with. UT2k3's maps were stuffed to the hilt with garbage, static meshes, and eye candy galore. The game was wholly rejected immediately by fans, because a) you couldn't move around very well, and b) you couldn't see people very well. MW2 suffers from the same problems, just not as much.

Playlist crappiness aside, I will pay IW $15 every 3 - 4 months if they can keep cranking new maps out like the ones in this last pack. The only original MW2 maps I care to keep are Karachi, Invasion, and Highrise. You could probably make compelling arguments for Quarry and Derailed, too. Scrapyard can get in line right behind Wasteland and Afghan to lick my nuts.
