the emblems and player names only pop up when someone does something 'special' it isnt all the time.

and the notifications are to let you know why you earned more than 100pts for a kill.

but yes, i aree, the notificatiosn can be distracting :)

i hope the next update gets rid of it cause i'd rather not see it and only see the numbers

Just finished the campaign on normal. Holy sh!t, this game is insane on like a whole new level of insanity. If you sit and think about the story too long you begin to realize that it doesn't really make all that much sense and is too convoluted for its own good. Still, that doesn't make it the wildest damn FPS ride (probably ever) and far more entertaining than the last dozen action movies I saw.

I do love that they put the MagPul Masada (aka Remington ACR aka Bushmaster ACR) in this game because that thing is the sweetest assault rifle I've ever held and I'm glad it kicks serious ass in the game.

@TheAdvocate, it's okay man I was like that with MW1, and still am some days. The game has a hell of a steep learning curve. And most of the weapons can shoot through walls, so some of those are probably ricochets or just stray rounds that someone got lucky with.

@viivo, all of the COD games developed by Infinity Ward run at 60-fps. It's special point of pride for them to keep it that fast and smooth. I just find it amazing that IW's fantastic proprietary engine started its life way back in the day as a modified version of id Tech 3 (Quake III Arena). And now it's this gorgeous powerhouse that stands on its own two feet.

@anyone that wants to play as a team on Xbox Live, send me a PM on Live (OptimumSlinky)

^ the single player definitely has a lot more 'wow' factors... but personally i'm not feeling it with this one. COD4 to me felt so much better......MW2 is much louder...gives me a headache... maybe i'm just getting old

Are you saying that MW2's graphic engine is actually iD's from Q3A?

He was talking about the original Call of Duty for PC. Yes at one point it is a PC only title.

Badass. Wolverines! is my favorite mission so far. And man am I terrible at multiplayer. I just hopped on for a couple runs and crapped it up. It's been a long time since I've played a competitive online FPS.

Why does there always have to be one level that makes me want to snap the disc in half??

FYI, don't stand where the airdrop is supposed to land. I saw a teammate get killed by a falling crate.

Just played some rounds with getbush (Arby), Mugs and bl4ckfl4g. That was fun, I had some awesome ratio's - we'll have to do it again sometime. I think my best round was 44 and 12.

Nice.

I would've joined you guys, but I was working my way through the spec ops. :awe:

Sounds good to me, as long as chrisg isn't allowed to play. I hear he's good.... :p

haha, i want to play :( An AT game night would be a lot of fun I think. Would be a nice break from hearing the kids screaming into the mics.

I got your invite tonight Arby but I had a full lobby of some other people and I was the host so I didn't want to bail on them.

I stopped playing multiplayer around 2:00 am and started veteran SP and now it's 6:00 am and it felt like it's only been an hour or so :p Really good game.

My brother and I hopped into some SpecOps last night, and WOW, what a lot of fun. Unfortunately we were having some initial problems with connections, but after we both forwarded ports 53, 80, 88, and 3074, we connected up just fine. We still had lag issues in-game though, which ruined some of it. I'm not sure where the lag was coming from either, we both have excellent connections in the same city. We are going to try again this afternoon and see if we get the same.

He hasn't ever played a CoD game before though, so he was still getting used to the controls while we were playing. I think my favorite spec ops mission we played was the one where you are sneaking through the snow and having to communicate to take out enemies like in the single player...."Take them out or let them pass, your call." LOVED IT. I'm really looking forward to trying for as many stars as I can.

As for multiplayer, I only put in about 4 matches yesterday, and it will take me a while to get back up to speed on this game. Once I learn the maps, I'll magically get better, but it'll be a rough transition I'm afraid. I can't quite get above a 1:1 k:d ratio yet, but I'm sure I'll get there.

Either MP gaming has passed me by... or..?

Getting absolutely raped, then beaten, then raped again in MP. Realize that the controls and timing are very different, but I've gone from 10 to 1 average K/D ratios in BF1943 to the reverse on this game.

How do you fuckers see through walls and around corners? People freaking know I am there and run right at me, guns blazing and Ive done nothing to reveal my position. Wow so frustrating.

There are a lot of ways to know where someone is. UAV, so unless you are using cold blooded, you will show up on that. Heart Beat sensor. Obviously if you fire your weapon you show up on radar. Also someone could find you by watching bullets fly and seeing which direction they came from or from hearing your footsteps, even if you only move slightly. Those are the ways I find people at least, so I'd imagine thats how you are being found.

So I can't seem to find any info about online stat tracking, I'm assuming it doesn't exist. How can IW completely gloss this over? What are the point of accolades if you can't show them off to friends online?

Hell yes!

Wolverines was the mission I was so itching to talk about when I got the game early. That setting just blew my mind.

*** Spoilers! ***

I found the no russian mission disturbing for its content, but the wolverines mission actually was probably even more disturbing...like, imagine if that actually happened? Its happened just about everywhere else in the civilized world before, but something about a peaceful american suburb, complete with taco bell and TGI Fridays, just seems so untouchable. It should have had a few a few american civilians though - that would have been even crazier. There were civilians running around the favela, and that completely changed the tone.

Dude you were absolutely killin it. I was sucking because I was so freakin tired. Earlier in the day I had a decent ratio but it was really bad the last 2 or 3 hours. I think we won every round though.

It has insane accuracy and great damage. The fire rate is a bit slower than the M4A1 but overall, I like it better. I like using it with the ACOG scope.

Yep, the other problem is it runs out of bullets way too damn quickly.

Got the M16 at lvl 40, and I'm owning with it. I've done a complete 180 on the 3-shot burst weapons since I first got the game. Used to hate them, now I find its the easiest way to get a kill at range. Even the m93 machine pistol owns.

My next goal is to get a nuke. Ive been able to get an ac-130 somewhat regularly by getting 5 kills, dropping a predator, which is a fairly reliable two kills. Then a harrier, which usually gets 3-4 kills unless someone shoots it down. Then at 11, its AC130 time. I've definitely gotten 14 kills off one in ground war on an open map. I figure if I skip the predator and start the killstreak at 7 for harrier it might actually happen, but damn 7 kills is hard to get.

Its also ridiculously easy to shoot down killstreaks before they do any real damage, but so few people carry around launchers. I have a feeling thats going to change pretty soon once people realize the advantage you give to your whole team by carrying a stinger.
