cross play eliminates that problem now. Provided the game gets acceptable performance.

Cross-play isn't universal. In Gears 4, as one example, it's only allowed for co-op. Multiplayer lobbies won't put mouse and keyboard against controller. If Halo 6 hits W10, I'd expect the same. I also HIIIIIIIIIIIGHLY doubt any possible competitive match in Halo Wars 2 wouldn't allow it.

That could change in the future. Scorpio is supposed to have full KB+Mouse support from what I've read elsewhere.

I mean, they're also calling mouse and keyboard support "months away" for the current XB1 lineup. It's been talked about for a long time. However, I don't anticipate a future where they mix lobbies. It's awful to think of Xbox just becoming too much of a PC, where the convenience of a controller is lost because you'll get wrecked in multiplayer with it.

I wish companies would focus on local multiplayer. I might be getting a second Xbox One instead of a PS4 so my nephew and I can play together. Halo 5 is what really broke me. We have played all the halos together. LoCoOp is a feature missing on too many games these days...

In a way I would rather just get two decent PCs so at least he would have something for school...

It does seem like they want to make it more like a steam box(basic PC with gaming functionality built in) than a console. Honestly though since they didn't announce Halo 6 I don't even need an Xbox and have considered selling. There is literally no exclusives left outside the core Halo games. Even scalebound and gears of war are making their way to the PC side.

Unfortunately more and more games have moved away from local multi player.

Okay, MS, hurry up and get rid of Live Subscription for online play. Make it something like PS+ last gen. To me, it's not that bad, and I like getting and trying the games they offer, but I don't think they realize how many people will jump back to MS if they get rid of the sub fee.

That's not going to happen. Maintaining a global online service and all its associated servers requires a revenue stream, and Xbox Live subs (or PS+ subs) are that revenue stream.

If your reaction to a loss of local multiplayer is to buy an extra console and another copy of the game, what is the incentive for developers to work on local multiplayer, at the expense of those hardware and software sales?

It's why I'll take what seems to be a drastic stance on relatively minor things. The ONLY way people can speak up anymore is with their wallets. Paying more for the abuse just asks for more. That's why I don't bother with DLC and microtransaction stuff. It's why I boycotted EA for 5 years during the Online Pass junk, even though it was unlikely to affect me (since I mostly bought new games).

There probably isn't real demand for it. The graphics and frame rate are reduced when you do split screen on many titles anyway.
And you're right, demand has be getting lower and lower for it. I don't get to hang out with my friends as much as I used to but we have time to play games with each other online, we don't get much time to hang out and play split screen anymore.

I forgot that I paid some fee to play on my pc games online.

The most interesting thing in Microsoft's conference, to me, was the new controller.... which has Bluetooth, so maybe I wouldn't need a dongle to use it with my PC.

Other than that? No compelling reason for me to run out and buy a Xbox One S, that's for sure... Especially with the Scorpio announcement.

Trade one dongle with built in windows drivers for a bluetooth dongle and software stack most likely clocking in at a 300 to 600 meg install... no thanks.

The new controller has both antenna in it, so you could still use the Xbox One controller dongle instead of bluetooth if that's the better solution for you. For a lot of people, their computer already has bluetooth, so they won't have to purchase a dongle for their new controller. Its just just another option.... Which could be useful for things like connecting an Xbox controller to a smartphone or tablet, or various other devices that have bluetooth.

I am considering getting an Xbox One S later this year, but so far I've seen no option for a black version. If it's only going to come in white that kills it for me.

Same. I have the Halo 5 console already, so I probably wouldn't upgrade. However, I was kind of thinking about it, until I saw how ugly the thing is.

i had no clue that aesthetics played a part in what consoles people will buy until the internet.

Aesthetics matter in everything. How many people buy smartphones based on color and general appearances? Cars? Houses? People make decisions that are just as fickle for more important things. I mean, why would I spend more money to get the same thing in an uglier package?

I don't see why it would bother you. As long as it retains the easy usability as consoles always have had then you can ignore the rest. Turn it on, pick a game, and play. I don't see how it having KB/M support, cross platform support, and a better store front would change your experience.

I think the S is a bit ugly compared to the sleek design of the original with the chrome accents. It does make a difference if someone was considering "upgrading".

LOL, you've got to be kidding me. The original looks like an 80s VCR, but at least it's available in black.

does your phone, car, or house sit in a cabinet in a stationary position every time you're using it?

phones, cars, and houses literally do the exact same thing as ones that look different. a hyundai and a ferarri will both get you from point A to point B. an iphone and a galaxy will both make phone calls, use the internet, and text message. your house whether 1000sqft or 3000sqft will provide a roof over your head.

good luck playing uncharted 4 or god of war on something other than the ps4.

Sleek doesn't mean small or compact.

The new one looks cheap by comparison. I like the glossy look better than matte, the eject button is nicer, as I already mentioned the chrome accents make it look a lot more high tech. The vents on the new one make it look like a toy rather than a piece of electronics. The infrared sensor doesn't stand out like a sore thumb on the old design. Just my opinion.
