Unless you already have a fairly recent system and need to only upgrade the video card, you're not going to get similar performance for the price on a PC.

I am lucky and have a new skylake i5. Recent upgrade after 7 years.

I am thinking they are going to release the super console for 400-500. I don't know how they could do it for less than that. If it is for 299 I would be seriously impressed.

I just think it hurts them announcing a smaller Xbox One and newer/faster one even if it is over a year away. That will keep some people waiting

I agree, I thought the direction was for a faster system. Curious to see what Sony does in the coming months.

That will be coming next year with project Scorpio.

True, if I didn't own one I might play the waiting game with it. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do. A year and a half is a long time to go so money isn't the problem. It's just how many games will be available that aren't just sequels or remakes etc. The hardware announcement is cool and all but there is still a serious lack of software. Especially if I can just play them on Windows 10 if I really wanted(provided they don't botch the port) so as of now I'm not planning to go in on day one to grab the new consoles. Especially considering my most anticipated titles will be out way before the new console is out so there's no benefit for new hardware there.

I agree, I suspect that both PS4 NEO and Scorpio will be released around $499.

The most interesting thing in Microsoft's conference, to me, was the new controller.... which has Bluetooth, so maybe I wouldn't need a dongle to use it with my PC.

Other than that? No compelling reason for me to run out and buy a Xbox One S, that's for sure... Especially with the Scorpio announcement.

Yeah they did say you could pair it with your other devices easily via bluetooth. I already got their wireless adapter for my Elite controller so that's a little late for me lol.

I'd love to see how the Xbox games initiative on Windows 10 will pan out, but I am not holding my breath after all we were promised with PC gaming in the past. They seriously need to fix and clean up the Windows store before they can hope to compete with Steam.

Did you guys catch that the Xbox One "S" does away with the Kinect port?
Kinect is DOA now. Cool concept but no one wants to pay extra for it. Only way it would get widespread adoption is if Microsoft bundled it in for free and eating the cost of it but it's too expensive for that.

Maybe I'm easily pleased but I felt like I wouldbuy a good chunk of the games shown, even if they're a tad derivative and rehashed. They're what I was hoping for.

At the very least I'm in for
Gears Of War 4
Forza Horizon 3
Recore
Sea of Thieves
Dead Rising 4
We Happy Few

Not to mention I was excited for the custom colored controllers, grabbing one to gift my girlfriend for Christmas already.

Plus after seeing the Sony conference where they said what amounts to, "Our box does VR today" it makes me think that they don't have an answer for Project Scorpio or they would have touted the neo as more powerful already if only to answer Microsofts announcement.

Before E3 Sony said they won't talk about their new console which is smart. They let Microsoft make the first move so they can respond just like E3 when they both announced their consoles. Microsoft made a mistake to even talk about their new console because even though it's still over a year out, it will make some people wait instead of buying an Xbox now. Why didn't they just wait until next year's E3 since it's not even coming out until late next year and let people buy the smaller Xbone? You don't want to give people an excuse to not buy your console right now.

Don't know the price of Scorpio yet, but any way you cut it you need $800+ to build a budget gaming rig if you have nothing. So a Scorpio is going to be the one to get for a lot of gamers. I'm glad MS finally gave us enthusiasts access to their first party games. Can not wait to play Horizon 3.

Isn't the Neo supposed to release before Scorpio? Microsoft had to do something right? They're still on their back foot. If the neo is truly a "half step" and scorpio is closer to a full step how can Sony come out and say, we have this weaker upgraded console after Microsoft came out first and said "We have what we assume will be the most powerful console ever coming".

Sony absolutely has/had the ability to adjust their press conference due to the scorpio announcement, the same way they did when they responded the year the consoles were released with regards to DRM. Instead of mentioning anything about the Neo to try and meet the scorpio announcement they said, our console is fine. I feel like they weren't going to mention the Neo and were assuming Microsoft wouldn't mention Scorpio yet. When Microsoft did they did not counter that statement in any meaningful way.

That's the thing, Sony doesn't need to announce a new console when they are outselling so much more. I just think it was a big mistake to talk about their faster console. There was no need to announce it so far in advance, especially with a new refresh of the current model so it could make people think twice about buying an Xbone now instead of waiting for the faster model late next year. They are giving Sony the opportunity to one up them on their upgraded console.

If Gamestop offers a good trade in deal for older Xbone's for the new one, I may do it because I definitely want a smaller one. I have a 1TB model already but it's the smaller size I want so I can finally fit my Xbone in one of the slots on my TV Stand with ample room for airflow like my PS4 has.

Can Sony react to Scorpio that quickly? Aren't redesigns like this a few years in R&D? Do they scrap the Neo and push their upgrade out a bit to one up Microsoft?

I feel like I won't upgrade to the Xbox One S. Built in PSU make me nervous about heat and having to use an adapter for kinect? I don't need space in my TV cabinet that much.

The neo was rumored before MS' next thing and they announced previously they would not have anything on the neo at e3.

Because so y is destroying everything in sales and can comfortably show us new games to play instead. The neo will be on par with Scorpio. They will be using the same chips.

I don't think you understand. They will be using the same chips. Sony has announced no specs. I am pretty sure the neo will actually end up faster.

What Microsoft has announced for Scorpio is much more powerful than the leaked specs for PS4 NEO. Of course, there's no guarantee that the leak is accurate, or that Sony won't change their minds in light of Microsoft's announcement, unless development is too far along already.

Here's an article with more info:

Eurogamer's assuming that Neo and Scorpio will both use Jaguar cores. If that was true, then both systems are going to end up severely CPU bottlenecked, and games will still struggle to run at 30 FPS, and the load times will still be terrible. On the upside, games would finally stop releasing at sub 1080p resolutions, and somewhat more taxing graphics effects could be used.

Hopefully the speculation on specs is incorrect, since if we're stuck with Jaguar cores again, these mid cycle consoles won't even address the primary performance problem of the current ones.

Press conference basically confirmed me buying a new 1070 video card for my PC. Wish I could afford 1080 but that ins't going to happen. All the good games are coming to Windows 10 as well.

Why buy a scorpio next year when you can build a stellar PC for similar pricing and not miss out on games/community?

Because there aren't PC exclusives I want, and I value the Xbox community (where I have people to play with already) over the PC one (where few of my peers play).

Microsoft's been such a mess, it seems. I think they made a mistake in announcing Scorpio and S together. The thing is, they try to tell people that Scorpio will be a "premium" console, so when it comes out, I could see a lot of folks shocked by a $500-600 price tag and going One S instead. However, because that stuff isn't known yet, they'll pass on the One S in anticipation, even if it is priced in a way that ultimately pushes those folks to the cheaper model.

The games reflected the horrors of slashing first-party studios left and right. Dead Rising 4 was the only new thing shown, and I can't even feign mild interest in that. ReCore interests me less as TPS #521 than when I thought "this might be a new, exciting type of game." Gears is just Gears, and with how I didn't care for Gears 3's campaign, and with the fact I dislike Horde, I don't know if I'd bother with it.

FH3 interests me because Australia's a great choice for the game. However, I didn't like the driving style of FH2 (want something more reckless/fun, in the old NFS sense of things), and I worry FH3 will similarly feel like it's holding you back from being too crazy. I'll get it either way, not enough coming out for me to play as it is.

Sea of Thieves? The video was cool, but I worry that game will be really boring without a bunch of folks to play with and talk to. Phantom Dust? I don't care about that. Crackdown? I don't care, plus it's delayed. $80 painted controller? Neat concept, but I have enough as it is. $200 Gears Elite controller? Blow it out your ass, Microsoft, since you give a 90-day warranty on the things and don't do repairs, leaving customers out $150 when the thing falls apart.

cross play eliminates that problem now. Provided the game gets acceptable performance.

They are using a new architecture entirely and will likely have a new CPU component too. We know this based on AMD and MS' recently released info. The thing is, MS has announced proposed specs. Sony hasn't so to say it will be slower makes no sense. Now that they know what MS is expecting to release I'm almost certain they will go to AMD and start working out some more details.
