i dont think jackson, it was prolly just thrown in for dramatic effect

I think in Jackson's case it goes a bit beyond "dramatic effect". Angioplasty, good friend and former teammate suddenly dies on the street in Manhatten yesterday, team loses series in playoffs for first time in a while. Lotta stress.

yeah, i was just joking. one more quote "they were just a better team" shaq

The championship was lost at the beginning of the season.

Reasons why I'm happy they lost:

-No more hearing Lakers players saying that the "championship has to go US" line. one word: HUMBLE
-No more hearing other teams give respect to a overly-cocky LA team
-No more hearing Shaq he's going to "dominate"
-No more hearing postgame interviews where Kobe talks like he can coach the game if he wanted to
-No more seeing Phil Jackson's polished nails
-No more hearing those crazy stats about Phil Jackson's reign as Bull/Lakers coach
-Having the chance to see a players cry about NOT playing a championship-type season while talking the championship-talk all year long, not even coming close in an elimination game of ROUND TWO OF THE PLAYOFFS AT HOME and ....OMG.....it must be so shocking.....LOSING I guess the veteran Fisher cried about being outplayed by a 20yr old and Kobe?
-Getting to hear all the analysts in a week-long debate of "how could the Lakers lose". Was it Rick Fox (yea, the he's so important), Phil Jackson's health problem which he says threw off their chemistry (you didn't even lose the damn road game!) or Horry's missed 3pter. You shouldn't have to depend on an aging luckster to get a crucial 3 in every year. If he's 2/28 or something, don't pass it to him in crunch time
-Getting to see how even more dysfunctional the team becomes over the summer

And maybe most of all:
-Possibility of less Kobe-Sprite commercials (seriously, how many times do you have to play it?!?!)

Man, so many points to talk about. First off, I thought Kobe was thinking about becoming a boxer or something with those Sprite commercials. I mean, in one of those commercials, you don't even see a basketball...it's him boxing the whole time. I'm boycotting Sprite (even though I never drank it).

And I think their cockiness is what annoyed me the most about them. After Kobe said "I can put the ball in the basket whenever I want," he lost a lot of respect from me. Way to put it in the basket in the 4th quarter.

And the greatest thing to come about from this upset........maybe Bill Walton will start to shut the hell up.

I tend to agree with Phil Jackson about the 99 championship. The Spurs never played the 82 game schedule to win the championship. That's the most grueling part of winning the championship, going through 82 regular season games and 15-26 postseason games. Up to 100+ games being played during a 8-9 month period.

It would be like the Mavericks winning it all this year by getting a fast 14-0 start. Gaining home court, and then going on to win it because of a quick start without going through the toughness and rigors of the season.

Do you think if Phils team won it all that year he would say the same thing?

What fvcking bull$hit!

The Spurs didn't receive any sort of head start that year. It was the same damn thing other than there being a lesser amount of total games played. If memory serves, the Spurs even had the best record that year. So what there were a few less games, they still had the most wins. I don't remember the playoff seeding being setup by who makes it to 60 wins first gets the home court. It's the best record... period.

So the Spurs didn't play a full 82 game schedule. Neither did any other team. I bet if the Lakers had won that year they wouldn't be saying stupid $hit like that though. It's all part of Phil Jackson's mind games and not liking the fact that the Lakers were swept.

It's only idiots like you who fall prey and actually believe his psycho-babble is actual truth. :|

- Don't know why this would be annoying, it's true; it went through them and the Spurs beat them, plain and simple.
- I really don't see how the Lakers are cocky just because of one thing Kobe said ("I can put the ball in the hole whenever" or something).
- Don't know why this would be annoying, he can dominate any center in the NBA when he's injured (e.g. the last 8 months).
- Not really sure what you're saying, that he has too much confidence? (jeez, it's not like he's won 3 rings or averaged 30 ppg this past season with an offense that wasn't even centered around him).
- OK. :)
- Totally ridiculous statement. The Lakers would have had an extremely good chance of winning the Spurs series based on just one single shot (Horry's Game 5 3-pointer that went in-and-out), which would have very likely led to a 4th championship. This is "not even close"?
- Did Phil Jackson kill your dog?
- Not sure why you bring up the fact that Fisher was crying, so did Duncan when his Spurs went 1-8 the last two years (he actually did shed tears during one of those series, I remember it quite well). Fisher isn't a good defender when it comes to fast PG's, I undoubtedly agree with you there.
- LOL, if you don't think significant problems would arise for any team that loses their starting SF as well as their backup SF (for one game) forcing arguably your best player to SF for that missed game (with your backup SF now playing injured for the rest of the series), you really need to wake up.
- Yes, I can't wait to see how a 3-time championship team like the Lakers will become dysfunctional out of nowhere, especially as 24 year old Kobe gets even better and Shaq comes back for revenge.

UH. Phil Jackson didn't coach that season. He came back for the 1999-2000 season. And the Spurs were tied for 1st with the Utah Jazz that year.

Let me clarify my point. Some teams get off to a good start. Just because you get off to a good start, does that mean you deserve a championship without enduring the 82 game season + post season? My point I was trying to get across was that I think the Spurs got off to a good jump start and won the championship that way in 1999. Just like if this season was shortened, the Mavs would've been the ones with a championship. Because they were so hot in the beginning, nobody could beat them. But now as the season progresses, we see fatigue, injuries, wear and tear. They're not so tough as they were in the beginning. Same thing with the Spurs back in 1999. They had a short injury free trip to the championship.

HAHAHAHAHA Lakers got OWNED.

The basically played like crap the whole series. They got sent packing and I'm very happy.

Apparently Kobe was WRONG when he said that no one could stop him and that he could score at will. Sorry bud but you were 9-19 with 20 points in the biggest game of the year. How about you actually HELP your team instead of sucking it up big boy.

But Duncan had 37 with 16 rebounds and performed throughout the WHOLE series, and he didnt have to open his mouth to make himself feel better. He's a class act and Kobe/Shaq could learn something from him and Mr Robinson.

Thats the WHOLE reason I hate the lakers. They can't win or perform in style, they always have a piss poor "i'm better than everyone" attitude. It's good to have that when youre on the court, but what ever happen to GRACIOUS WINNING and being sportsmanlike. I never saw Bird, Magic, Jordan acting like little babies.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out lakers.......

Laker hating is no big suprise. Take it as a compliment. There's no Clipper haters out there because there is no point. They have achieved a status similar to the Yanks in baseball as someone pointed out. My father was a Dodger fan and we actually had books on how to be a Yankee hater and the all time Yankee killers. All in good fun of course.

Don't hand the Spurs the championship yet. They still have to earn it. David Robinson has a ring so I'm not to worried about sending him off with another. If he does get one he better get "Thanks Timmy" engraved on it.
