There are ROMS that look exactly stock, but provide a much smoother experience. At least I think they are smoother than stock; I owned the phone for literally 10 minutes before I already had a new ROM on it.

Stock is already smooth though. ;)

you flash it through rom manager, but then you need to rename/move/delete the stock recovery image (this is what I did)

**edit**
from xda:
How to Install ClockworkMod

1. Install Root Explorer from the market and delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p *Mount as R/W first* See this link for help
2. Reboot into Fastboot Mode: Power off your device and (Power + Volume Up and Down)
3. Flash CWM (fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img)
4. Reboot into OS (fastboot reboot)
5. You now have CWM recovery permanently installed

I installed ICS on my Nexus S, it was pretty cool but there were a few things I didn't like.

1. The app draw was laggy.

2. The stock browser. It doesn't load the whole page? so when you look around it has to load the part of the page you are looking at, so you are presented with a grey square or blurry text while it loads. Also, if I do something else on my phone when a webpage is loaded in the browser and then go back to it later, it has to reload, it doesn't stay in memory. Both these things are, to me, very annoying. Oh yeah, and the keyboard can be very laggy when used to input text on a big website, like youtube or a forum.

Because I like to use dolphin (which uses the stock browser) and not opera, I went back to gingerbread and am much happier.

Haven't experienced either of those issues on the Galaxy Nexus.

Interesting, I know other Nexus S users have had similar complaints from reading xda and the verge forums. I guess they may just be NS issues and MB don't apply to the Gnex.

on the gnex the stock browser does have to reload thepage if you close and reopen the browser later, however im pretty sure opera does this as well, i havent seen the partial load issues and the ap drawer is not laggy for me anyway

those with a laggy app drawer so you have it set to go side to side or as 1 very long page?

also stock launcher or a different one?

TBH ive been using Nova launcher since day 1 for various reasons, it may be why i dont see any lag

If anyone is a LED notification fan like I am, I suggest you give Light Flow a try. It lets you set custom LED notification colors for various apps, adjust the blinking rate of the LED, make it so you see all the various colors displayed until they are cleared, etc. Really nice app. Just installed it on my Nexus and it works great.

Yep. The combo of Light Flow (paid) and Volume+ (paid) plus non-stock alerts/ringtones/alarms absolutely saved this phone. I don't think I could have made do with it otherwise, considering that would mean my past Motorola phones would not only have better radios, but also be the only ones with loud-enough speakers (never have owned an HTC device) to wake me up. I was afraid of downgrading from Motorola quality but everything else about the SGN is just win, and now one of the worst parts is pretty much fixed. Hoping the weak radios get a little improved (already tried all LTE radios available to flash), because I get 3G speeds on LTE at home thanks to weak reception and it still struggles to maintain connection.

I am still able to obtain over 20mbps depending on the area and how many active users are sharing whatever that tower's allocation offers. Just never at home. I do frequent a lot of strong-signal areas, so it's not big deal as I am fine with wifi at home to recover comparable connection speeds... I cant do 20mbps at home, so away from the house I actually download faster than I do on our 10mbps cable line. :) :(

But yeah... omg the stock alarm, even max volume... absolute shit, I slept right through it and was late for work! and I chose the loudest-sounding alarm on the device, not the shitty default.
I always fall back asleep after my clock radio's alarm and need my cellphone that's further away to wake me up.

Using Rootzboat with the Apex kernel.

43% battery, 12h 55m off the charger, 1h 5m screen on time, 4G for the past 6 hours. Not sure if something funky is going on or what. Significant improvement over the lean kernel I was using before.

Edit: billing cycle over today, 5GB for the month.

I am loving ICS on my Prime. The animations are great, and the browser is actually usable.
