I actually bought into a still being developed vacation property near the Myrtle boardwalk earlier this year. Guessing this is going to slow down development a bit. :(

So...ATOT beach party when its rebuilt?

Jeez. That reads like the prequel to the Mad Max movies.
Yup, gas, (from my experience in hurricanes as well) is very, very valuable as is ice. People waiting in line sometimes broke out into viscous fights over ice, if it could be found at all. When hurricane Charley (unexpectedly) barrelled through central FL everyone was caught off guard. I stopped at a local grocer 3-4 hrs before it hit and it was packed, the busiest aisle?, BEER.I didn't need any but in the 1/2hr I was there it was picked clean, I pushed my cart through looking for something else and there was 1 dented can of Schlitz left LOL. You do see occasional acts of kindness with neighbors helping neighbors with damage ect, but in general most people are wound up tighter than a snare drum.

Has your friends inlaws changed their batshit crazy minds yet? 10+ feet of storm surge and almost 4' of rain being called for.
Yea, that's NUTS, just the thought of "30-40 of rain is insane. Now you throw that surge in and your talking hellish conditions, truly, truly, dangerous. Another thought is this entire area is already waterlogged from Gorden's remnants, this rain, surge, extreme wind WILL topple almost any tree, when they hit your house, (and your inside it) it is not something that will be a "fond" memory, ask me how I know!. Tell them to GTFO!!

This may be a really stupid, but can airplanes fly over hurricanes? Or do they have to fly around them? And is it common for flights to go on as normal if the normal path is to go directly where the hurricane is going to be, but they instead just go around the hurricane?

I'm just wondering if there is a chance that the first leg of my trip from BWI to FLL will have a chance of happening Saturday morning at 8am. The typical flight path goes RIGHT over the coast of the carolinas where it's going to be getting hammered.

They don’t fly over hurricanes, will have to go around.
Okay. That's pretty standard? Or is canceling flights that go directly in the path more likely to happen?

Also we have a 65 minute layover which isn't that long, especially if they have to take a longer route. There is a flight leaving earlier at 6am and I am debating seeing if we can get on that one instead, even if getting up that much earlier would blow.

Err might get canceled, most flights in and out of RDU (and other surrounding airports) are going to be canceled

I'd check and see if there are any change waivers from the airline. You may be able to make other arrangements like that earlier flight for free

It's with SW, and they both have the same connecting leg from FLL to GCM. The price is the same too so I'm almost positive I could just switch for free. I'd have to do it on the phone though since I'm using a companion pass of my wife's.

After thinking too, since the leg from FLL to GCM is the same flight with the 6am and 8am flight, I'd think that at FLL they would wait it out even if it meant a little bit of a delay. Like the actual plane that I'm coming in on may be the actual plane that is going to GCM, although it says "change planes" on SW site so I dunno. It may always say that when you have to change flight numbers.

And I realize airports in NC/SC are going to cancel flights, but I'm not getting on any planes at airports near there.

I only hope all of that work I did over the past two days getting my house and family ready on the SC coast is all for nothing.

Did youse all die yet?

Reports for the storm seem to be all over...”worst storm in a century! We’re ALL gonna die!” to “it’s gonna be bad, but not TOO bad.”

Hopefully the storm falls apart quick.

The forecast for my area looks great next week....6 cloudless days at a balmy 88-91 degrees. Whenever there is a hurricane, it seems to suck all the bad weather from everywhere else. Looking forward to it after rain pretty much every day for the past few weeks.
