Ya i think im gonna wait for the OTA release. Been reading across some forums and the leaked 2.2 doesn't seem to be working so hot for everyone.

A few tips for everyone that just d/l 2.2 (mostly battery bs):

Do a hard reset after its loaded,
Download Network and switch to cdma auto again (can't access it through *#*# thing),
Check all sync again,
Delete any flashlight apps,
Reset/remove widgets esp a battery one (can't remember name),
Update prl,
have fun.

Posting on these forums must be done through quick post using 2.2 because of the way this thing supports flash, its annoying but acceptable for the speed up. Keyboard seems slower over the internet posting.

More advice to follow later when I come across it.

Sooo....what's the difference between 2.1 and 2.2?

here is a comprehensive list of changes in the new update:

http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/08/n...android-22-froyo-update-for-htc-evo.html#more

Note that the EVO doesn't get all of the standard 2.2 enhancements because of its Sense UI. Froyo's free WiFi hotspot is also not included because the EVO's existing Sprint hotspot is a paid service.

Performance

  • 2 to 5 times faster than Android 2.1
  • Faster, more powerful browser
  • Smoother scrolling
  • Faster app switching
  • Overall improvement in responsiveness
  • 4G speed improvement
  • 720p video recording improvement
  • Faster GPS triangulation in Sprint Navigation
Features

  • Long pressing Home button shows 8 recent apps (instead of 6)
  • Adobe Flash 10.1
  • Google search (widget and bar) options: Web, Apps, All
  • Camera flash accessible to Camcorder
  • Left and right landscape mode
  • 4-way camera orientation
  • Free apps can be shared
  • Send contact as vCard via SMS
  • Larger Message compose window with Attach button
  • Message count badge
  • MMS slideshow editor
  • Exchange support with improved security, remote wipe, auto-discovery, global address lists look-up, lock screen timeout, and calendar sync
  • Facebook events and birthdays appear in Calendar
  • Unknown Facebook users can be added to Friend Stream
  • Local search in Friend Stream
  • Facebook comments in Gallery
  • Numeric and alphanumeric password locks
  • Adjustable alarm volume
  • Voice dialing and contact sharing over Bluetooth
  • Store apps on microSD card
  • Forward/Back arrows in Gmail message
  • Multiple Gmail calendars
Android Market

  • "Update All" button
  • Automatic updating option
  • App comments/reviews appear in their own tab
Apps (developer-controlled)

  • Installable on microSD card
  • Android Cloud to Device Messaging for mobile alert, send to phone, and two-way push sync functionality
  • Bug reporting for users to send crash reports to devs
  • Data backup and restore
Settings

  • Sound and Display settings are separated
  • Dock setting
  • Voice input & output setting
  • "Move to SD card" in Applications -> Manage Applications
  • Different lock options in Security setting
New Apps/Widgets

  • Flashlight
  • App Sharing
  • Car Panel
  • Calculator, FM radio, Profile, Ringtone, and Message widgets
UI/Cosmetic

  • Enhanced 3G icon
  • Redesigned Gtalk interface
  • New UI for FM radio
Anything else you've noticed on your EVO that should be added to this list?

took my phone in to a sprint repair center today... they basically had no idea wtf happened to me phone.

all I did was apply the update that THEY pushed out. /facepalm

their only solution was for me to get a new phone... but they're backordered, so I'm still without a phone for the next 5-7 business days.

FML. couldn't have happened at a worse possible time as I'm trying to coordinate movers, painters, a plumber, cleaning lady, and canceling my cable/utilities.

I have a Sprint Hero and a Sprint BB Curve both sitting on my desk not being used...

I've had my Evo for a couple of days now. As it came set up, battery life sucks. I was getting about 12 hours out of it. It came with a 1500 mAh battery.
I made the changes suggested in this thread and we'll see how it goes from here.

Otherwise, I really like the phone. Especially Voice Search/Actions.

Edit:
Anyone using the 3500 battery? Curious how much bigger it makes the phone.

I wanted to re-activate my old flip phone, but unfortunately, the charger is lost somewhere in my moving mess.

borrowed my dad's phone just so I'd have something in case my car broke down or something, but it's still such a pain in the ass. calling my broken cellphone like twice an hour to check voicemail.

Its not 3500mha but at 2.8mha it still has almost twice as much juice. Olds also check out www.androidforums.com they have a lot of tips and stuff for you to read to lower battery consumption.

I'm going to get a new Evo a little later this month, saying goodbye to Blackberry and AT&T. Any chance it'll come with 2.2 right out of the box?

Thanks, I'll check them out.
I did see a thread about the battery on howardforums. It is bigger but it protects the camera lens better than the stock battery/case.

I got the seido battery from amazon in on Tuesday. It says to charge the phone fully, plus an additional 2-3 hours and then use it.

I did that, and used it. The first use after 24 hours with no external charge got me down to 31% battery life and thats with a lot of youtube, playing with the phone, playing games, etc. The 31% would have probably lasted me another day to be honest.

However, as with all batteries, they seem to last longer after a few full charges so I'm going to charge it up a few more times and see if it lasts longer like I think it will. The phone feels a bit heavier, but still fits great in my pocket and isn't obtrusive like I feared it might be.

Picked one up on Tuesday, 2.2 out of the box. :)

What's everyone's favorite ROM?

I've tried Cyanogen and Fresh so far. Both pretty slick, wish Cyanogen would incorporate 4G though.

I got 3500 mAh battery from Hong Kong. Only had it two days and since I have to fly today, I didn't let it run all the way down before I charged it.
Over the course of a day (24 hours) with general use, it went down to 69%.

I use Fresh myself. No 4G makes Cyanogen worthless to me.
