A quick question to those with the store bought copy. Does the game come with its own unique cd-key ? or activation code ? something along those lines.

DoD - dunno, conflicting info.

What are you talking about? Its not much, it looks like the models havent really changed too much, but you cannot say that "HL1 gfx are NOT updated".

If that doesnt work out, if you already have a modem....just get one of those free AOL on-line things, install it....authenticate HL2, and remove the AOL crap and enjoy gaming goodness?

God AOL sucks. A AOL cd never comes within 5 feet of my computer. I collect AOL cd's too. I'm going to make a bonfire out of them. So far i have about 160.

So? The first Half Life got 50 Game of the Year awards, which would most likely mean that the sequel would be just as good. Also, I've seen enough previews and trailers.

I just purchased the Bronze edition via Steam.

I was debating whether to buy it retail or buy it through Steam, and after reading that game companies only get around 7 bucks a game sold at retail while they get around $30 when the middleman is cut out, it was a no-brainer.

We all know this game is going to rock our world for the next week. So why not help Valve obtain more profit so they can keep making great games? Or would you rather let the retailers reap the benefits at Valve's expense? I think Valve has made a bold statement with Steam, and other gaming companies are sure to follow. After all, thanks to Steam the game is sitting on my PC right now.

I'm with you on this one, SonicFlux. I cannot stand VU games and their money grubbing ways. It pisses me off that they are now attacking Valve in order to obtain rights to the Half Life IP (Intellectual Property), even though they had absolutely zero creative input on the creation of the game. I would rather Valve get my money, than VU.

If you think IRC is complicated, wait till you try to install a floppy drive sometime. :p The reason why I dont and can't use IRC is because the corporate firewalls block its ports. I will be working until 11:45pm, so I'll get off just in time to run home and play it! But if thats too compicated for you to understand, its cool. :p ;)
