6990 doesn't sound as horrific as I'd imagined in that video.

Of course it could have been the Billy Mays diction on the guy deadening my eardrums.

Thats what i noticed building a few rigs for buddies, the 6990 in default mode runs quiet. The fan is noiseless, all the noise there is come from airflow, inside a case it's not loud, no where near 65 dB that AT benched it (did they leave it in open benchtop setup, with sound meter next to the rear exhaust??). More realistic would be guru3d or other sites which have it ~46 dB. That's the biggest difference to other noisy solutions where the fan is making a lot of noise.

when I see 1x590 OCed to its max beating 1x6990 Oced to its max in games / resolutions where cards struggle to push 60FPS then I will give 590 a single card crown.

I'm gonna hold you to that, I'll see you in about 11 days. :)

The gtx 590 is 729.00 at tiger direct and newegg.

Don't know about price comparisons in Europe etc

Wanna sh!t yourself? In NZ the 6990 is $1132.00, including 15%GST. The 590, (sit down :D)... $1800.00 including GST.

The Kiwi dollar is worth about 75 cents compared to the USD. That makes pre tax price on the 6990 equal to ~$738USD. Not bad at all considering our small market and being at the end of civilization. The 590 is ~$1174.00USD!

Gee, if I was in the market for one of these cards which one should I buy? LOL

Yes and they were wrong.

I agree with you. Try and get one of them to change their stance though is fruitless. I ignore that sort of logic. There's just some things that don't need to be proven wrong. Everyone with any common sense already knows the truth.

We have come to a point where we would say its process shrinking time. Those pcb and components on it barely scraped it through.

Jut remember that 880MHz is not the max for 6990, that's the factory OC.

I couldn't find any data on it....At what point does the 6990 PCB explode at? :D

Make sure you takes lots of pictures of the transition from air to water on those babies!

Its a very quiet card with a little voltage mod. I guess that's a plus.

Most likely a non-reference design that isn't faulty.

I am actually very curious to see a non-reference design, simply because it has a potential of being MUCH better than 6990, but it will be very costly performance in terms of electric power and cooling.

6990 at 830Hz is not as loud as 4870x2 was, but its not a quite card...
To be honest the noise of these cards is irrelevant, because any one who runs them without water cooling should not be running them...

Nvidia cards are always more expensive in the U.K,but that NZ price difference is just insane:eek:

Ouch....So I guess in the UK the high end way to go would be to purchase a 6990 and a 6950(modded)/6970 and go for the threesome for the same price as a 590 :)

I am waiting for water blocks for my 2x6990s; should be here on wed. The only way I would run 590 is if they gave it to me for free and payed my electric bill... Although a non-reference design may be worth looking at, if it has better VRMs...
