Because I'm interested in new hardware and wasn't aware this thread was only open to people actually buying a 590.

you said it was irrelevant? now your interest is with it. did you mean irrelevant meaning something other than the word defies? am i missing something? irrelevant only in a purchasing context? maybe.....

Ok. Then i will list the advantages of gtx590, compared to 6990, because you asked for our opinion:

-Massive 11% performance advantage (in 1024x768)
-Tangible performance advantage in 3-4 years old games (as oposed to new and future)
-Quieter (as the difference between loud and very loud)
-Most of them dont blow up!

those are all good points. The pros dont have to be necessarily over the 6990, i am not trying to do that. Pros in general, the 6990 isnt the focus, its about the 590. this is the thread for the 590. So i am not asking for pros over the 6990. Just positives in general

we just talked about them blowing up like just a few post ago.

why do you think nvidias gpus on the 590 are superior to those on the 6990? i dont see how they could be.

Because the GTX580 is better than the HD6970.

The reason why GF110 is superior to the 6970 (6990 and 590 are just dual GPU versions) because GF110 wins at lower resolutions. Which means Gf110 does each operation faster than the GPU on 6970. However at larger Datasets 580 looses due to fixed loop overhead.

naw, thats not a good way to think. The 590 GPUs arent the same as 580s. They are underclocked and perform more like the 6970 than the 580. they are pretty even i think.

They are the same GPUs. The fact that they are under clocked means they are crippled... If you buy an intel I7 980X and clock it at 1GHz, lower the voltages and run it without a fan, do you still have 980X?

okay but you missed the point where we were talking about performance and the gpus on the 590 arent like the 580 in the fact that they are not clocked the same and this causes them to perform more like the 6970 than the 580. Thie 590 and the 580 are different GPUs. They arent the same. They uses less power and are at lower clocks. result: they perform not like the 580

They are still the same GPUs.

Does the GPU on my 6950 change into a different one when its at 2d clocks?
