ah...lucky bastards. enjoy the game. i will now have to find a way to afford a PS3 (since we need a high def player anyway) and eventually new tv. So little money... 
Gamespot is the only review site I count on....I've read all the other reviews with a grain of salt....when I saw that 10 after I loaded up the main page, I skipped a heartbeat.

I just got back home from GameCrazy (NYC). Got there at about 8:30PM and was the first 5 in line. It was my first midnight launch for any game. The experience wasn't bad. However, it wasn't really organized as there were massive line cutting and no organized pre-payment. Everything was done at midnight. They had a NBA 2K8 tournament beforehand sponsored by Power 105. Winner got a 360 Elite. With that said, I'm back home with a copy along with the limited edition faceplate.

You guys are pumping me up so much for this game! Unfortunately there were no midnight releases in my area. Just a 8am early opening at Best Buy today (Tuesday). Luckily I finish work at 6 so I think I'm pretty much guaranteed to get a copy. How many people don't have school or can skip work? right?
I will have the PS3 version in my hands in 2 hours. Will any other PS3'ers be up for some MP around 12:30AM PDT?

Just played a little over an hours worth on the 360 version. The graphics are great, but I've not seen anything thus far that will make your jaw drop. The dialog is absolutely fantastic thus far, even though I've a little bit of trouble hearing some of the accents over the radio that I didn't know how to turn off until a couple of missions in. It's been very funny so far, I've laughed out loud on a few occassions. Niko seems like a cool guy thus far, and his cousin is a bit of a prick whom I'm assuming you will have to bail out quite a few times as the game goes along.
It feels just like a classic GTA game as far as controls go, although the driving will take a bit to get used to. Right now I really dislike the driving controls, but I'll be fine with it after a while I'm sure. The cars seem way too heavy and are hard to stop.
So far, I'm enjoying it. I'm off to bed now, but will play a bit more tomorrow after work. No multiplayer for me until tomorrow night.

I figured the Halo line last year was going to beat this one all to shit, but by the time it hit midnight, the line rivaled that of Halo. Easily 200 people at my local Gamestop that I was at.

no multiplayer tonight. Got to finish a midterm paper due in the morning. But I figured I'd take a break and pick up my copy with my buddy at the midnight release. Set some time aside to play a few short intro missions, and wow... it actually feels like GTA, yet at the same time a game that is taking itself seriously, by both making sure it pleases the fans from older versions, and going above and beyond to make you connect to the world. It's amazing.
Everywhere you go, it just makes you feel like you're in the city, and that your little decisions matter, while ultimately they basically don't because it's still GTA at heart.
game is sick! Now if only I didn't have to worry about this paper, and another one I gotta work on tomorrow. Boo.

i just played for an hour and im thoroughly impressed. looks great and the initial install on the ps3 wasnt too bad, gave me a few minutes to get situated with the controls. my fighting abilities are lacking right now but im sure ill get better with a little more practice. i havent played since vice city so its a little bit of a learning curve for me as its been awhile and im sure things have changed since ive last played. but im liking it so far and cant wait to dive right back in.
Have played for about an hour or so and it really is great.
I tried to jump on multiplayer 5 or 6 times and although I could see other players in the waiting room I was immediately booted from every game that started up. I really hope this isn't going to be a constant issue.

PS3 or 360? 360 mp worked pretty well.
LOVE the single player, not so sure about the multiplayer. But MP isnt the reason I bought it.
This might actually be the first GTA I'll ever finish.

I'm going to go ahead and say it'll be the first one I beat too, but even I don't believe myself... I rarely beat games.
Heavenly Sword still awaits completion. As does Uncharted. And Resistance. Oh, and Bioshock, Crysis, and a long list of others. I just rarely get around to beating games, because I put them down briefly, and never get around to them... mostly because other games grab my attention. And the process just continues.
But, this is already the best GTA I've ever played, it's just so engrossing. You can continue to play it like any other GTA game... but I almost can't make myself run over helpless pedestrians just yet. Mind you, I played it for about an hour as I've got work to do. Pulling an all nighter right now, and it's not because of GTA.
Stupid midterm paper, and a paper after that. Today is going to suck horribly, especially since I've got to force myself to stay awake. And then get good sleep for my PT test tomorrow morning. Ugh. But it's definitely just cinematic in its presentation, I don't even want to skip any of the story scenes.

Same. I'll be playing GTA IV with most likely a lot of people on this forum. I only have a PS3, and would have gotten it on PS3 anyhow because I prefer the controller. 360 is more comfortable, but I'm just so used to the dualshock design since I've been using it for so long.

I finally finished up my 10th prestige over the weekend so I really have nowhere else to go in COD4. Also already got Elite rank and 1000 gamerscore (well, except for the glitched achievement) in R6V2.
I'm hoping to get many, many hours out of GTA IV.
So it looks like the best non-preorder, brick & mortar deal is at Circuit City with their $10 GC with the purchase. Anyone see a better option?
