The only thing I like is the steering, it works very well with the wheel. But that's not enough to make me buy this pile. Too much focus on having the most content, which has left the rest lacking is my guess.

The graphics may not be quite as good as the upcoming GT5, but they're certainly on par with recent racers. Besides, this game doesn't cater as much to the graphics whores as it does the phsyics whores. Forza has always been about two things: collecting cars and simulating the best possible racing physics. Forza 3 has obviously succeeded in both pursuits. If that's not your thing, that's cool, but try to remember what the game is trying to be.

As for the sense of speed, I have to strongly disagree. I think they nailed it. Anything more and it would have felt arcadish.

Those guys are must have logged a LOT of hours to be that skilled.

I'll take the advanced physics of Forza over Gran Turismo's eyecandy any day. When I hit another car or part of the track, I want my car to actually slow down, not propel like a rocket as in Gran Turismo. The Forza community also seems much more mature than GT's, probably because GT's accessibility and ease of use appeals to younger people whereas Forza requires some knowledge of how cars work and why to get the most out of it.

Forza 3 Cuts Dynamic Gifting.

September 28, 2009 - Forza Motorsport 3 hits stores at the end of October, but we at IGN already have our retail builds. Jealous? You should be. As those who've been following our Forza 3 coverage already know, Forza gifts gamers a car for each Driver Level earned up through Level 50. The original idea was that the game would dynamically choose your gifts so that people earned different cars based on their initial choices in the career mode. This has changed.

Forza 3 still gives you a new car with each level earned, but it's no longer dynamic. Everyone earns the same cars along the way. Turn10 explained the change to us:

This feature was changed during the 11th hour by the Turn 10 design leads due to balancing issues. Basically, based on the initial car you picked, certain gifting paths would throw off the overall balance of progression during season play. The feature was cut for no other reason than to ensure design balance as players progress through the game. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and your readers, but as you know, it's not uncommon for features to change or be cut during the development process (even near the end of it) to make sure that the final game provides the best possible player experience.

Sucks but at least they did it because they realized that it would throw off the game balance. Better that than having people b!tch about how gifted cars mess up the game.

I'll have to download this demo tonight. I was going to wait until my 120GB hard drive got here, but I actually do have enough room for it (currently have 3 GB free, and the demo is "only" 1 GB).

Right now I'm enjoying NFS: Shift, and I'm skeptical of Forza 3 because Forza 2's career mode was too long and boring for me, but who knows. Maybe 3 will improve in that regard. I'll have to see how it goes.

The demo doesn't even touch on how the career mode will work, it's more about getting a chance to see the graphics and how the cars drive. There's 1 track with 5 different cars D - R to try out. You can do a 2 lap race against the AI or run some hot laps.

I figured that was the case but I also want to see how the physics are and how well it controls. Though I'm guessing it'll probably be really similar to Forza 2, in which case the demo won't even really matter. I never had a problem with FM2's controls or physics, it was just that I always sucked compared to most people on race nights and I got bored really quickly with the career.

The physics and controls are light years ahead of Forza 2. The cars actually have weight to them now and do not fly off the track on a 1 degree turn at 10 MPH.

Plus adding a bunch of cars to the official car list on pg 1.

That looks awesome; now I want the game! FM2 seemed barely better than FM1 and actually worse in several areas, but this looks like a huge jump ahead.

You're only allowed to buy it IF you promise to race with us on Wednesdays again!

I should be able to at least some of the time. Sort of depends on how much I enjoy the game. Eventually I just got bored with Forza 2, which is the main reason I stopped.

Pfft, we don't care if YOU enjoyed it, you're supposed to keep racing because WE liked having you there! :p

Do we know how many we can have in a race lobby this season? 16 would be sooooo awesome. 8 players just seems so limiting!

Aye, that is a MAJOR letdown. How about GT5? Any idea how many that'll hold? If its more I'd be inclined to just get that game.

what i want to know is if they fixed splitscreen. give me two player replays and the ability to select from the same garage and i'll be happy.

am i the only one that still plays games splitscreen? god damn i've been getting pissed off at devs for completely neglecting local multiplayer- i have absolutely zero reason to have a console without it. i'd rather shove a rabid ferret in my underwear than play on xbox live, that's for damn sure.

I'm not sure, but I "think" it's 12 or 16 for GT5. I'm not a PS3 guy though.

I really don't understand why they didn't increase the number for FM3. I know it's got super intricate physics and such but surely you can get more than 8 cars in-game.

Maybe they tried it and decided that most tracks just weren't fun with that many cars. Maybe they couldn't achieve the physics fidelity if they spent CPU on more cars. Who knows. Either way, I'm sure it wasn't an arbitrary decision.

Well, considering the majority of tracks are real tracks that can host 30+ cars racing on them at a time I wouldn't think that "not fun with more than 8" is an issue. As I mentioned I know that it's got alot of physics and such running behind the scenes but maxing at 8 cars is so PS1.

I'm not saying I know why they didn't do it... I'm just saying that, for a game that seems to have its finger on the pulse of sim racing, I'm sure it wasn't arbitrary. It might be so "PS1", but I'll take the physics and graphics over a 16 car pile-up on turn 1 any day of the week and twice on Sunday. When there are 30+ cars racing on those real-world tracks, there are usually 30+ professional drivers behind the wheels, too. Even with "only" 8 cars on the track in Forzas 1 and 2, you still had total carnage during the first lap most of the time. So all I'm saying is that perhaps it's a decision that was born out of technical necessity (RAM/CPU/GPU limitations) or out of play-testing..... probably not "this is way more fun with more cars, but let's stick to 8 just for the heck of it."

more would be better for our night, but think about this, would you really want more than 8 people with my skill level running front of you? (my skill level is suck btw)

Dude, I'm totally with you there. The only time I really enjoy Xbox Live is when I'm playing a group of people I know, like the Forza guys here. I just wish there was a similar group of tight-knit Halo or Call of Duty players too, because sim racing wears on me after a while.

As long as you're talking about local multiplayer, have you heard of Co-Optimus? http://www.co-optimus.com/ Big database of local multiplayer games that will tell you how many people can play locally and online. Sadly, there aren't many of them, and there are even fewer that allow multiple people per console and online at the same time.

Regarding being stuck with 8 people in online mode still... that's a disappointment. However, with more than 8 people it would take a much longer race for it to be fair. Imagine starting at the back of a 16-car field and having to work your way to the front in just 4-6 laps!
