Actually thats not true. There will be a majority. See the Senate Sub-Committees decide what gets to the Senate floor. Currently alot of stuff that would pass a full Senate vote is either stalled or stopped by the democrat controlled committees. Alot of stuff will get done if the republicans get a majority, because they WILL be able to get stuff to a full senate vote.

The Texas senate race is yet to be called because 2 of the 4 largest counties, Tarrant and Bexar have yet to report in. Bexar is like 75% hispanic, Tarrant is mainly republican. So the Texas seat is safe, the media is just being overly cautious

Amazing. That bucks a trend that has been going strong since 94. Oh well, Oregon already has decriminalized since 79 (up to one ounce), and the ballot measure to re-criminalize failed miserably in 98, along with medicinal marijuana passing overwhelmingly that year.

Update in Oregon (bear in mind I'm Libertarian and hate both parties, but have a peculiar and particular hatred for idiot fanboy dittoheads):
Bradbury (D) has conceded within 30 minutes after the polls closed. Smith (R) will return to the Senate.
Governor race still too close to call. Kulongoski (D) holds a 2% lead over Mannix (R) but that is shrinking as Democratic stronghold Multnomah county (Portland) has already been counted. This one is going to be close.
In District 1, incumbent Wu (D) has been rewarded for being one of the ballsy few to vote NO on USA Patriot. He returns to the House by an overwhelming majority.
Measure 23, for Universal Health Care, which would have cost the state at least 4 times its current annual budget every year, had been resoundingly defeated. :)
Measure 27, which would have required labeling for Genetically-Modified Foods, has been defeated.
Measure 14, the Orwellian-esque law to re-write the state constitution to remove possibly racist remarks, has passed.
Measure 25, which would give Oregon one of the highest minimum wage laws in the country in this recessionary time, has unfortunately passed. :(

That's about it.

Most arent commenting on the Coleman v Mondale race because they have to count the ballots by hand, and the picture really wont be to clear until the early morning hours. Although the White House thinks Coleman will win by the information they have.

Well, it looks like bag'o'bitch has won the IL governor race. Get ready for heafty tax increases fellow IL folks.

This cracks me up. In the area I have my stores they raised the sales tax on restaurants by over 2% because the local Democrat majority had destroyed and bankrupted the school system by chasing out just about all local industry with stupid regulations and high taxes... and ended up putting thousands out of work. In other words, they taxed themselves out of a tax base.

I have customers coming in asking why I've increased my prices when they are seeing the total on the register. Most of these customers are lower to lower middle class folks. I ended up making a sign explaining the sales tax increase on food, that I have not raised my prices one cent, and providing numbers to the county and city governments. Next to it is a list of those representitives that voted for the tax increase, and their numbers as well. All were Democrat.

The funniest thing is, Democrats claim to be for "the poor" yet they've raised taxes in exactly the place it will hit them hardest, food.

Now they want that same mentality with a governor so this insanity can be state wide.

It's a sad, sad day in IL. :|

I thought Gasby polls were showing Mondale with a double digit lead just yesterday?

It's also worth noting that Measure 17, which would lower the age of serving in the Oregon Legislature from 21 to 18 is failing. As a side note, 18 year olds can already serve in such positions as Sec. of State and Att. Gen in Oregon, along with taxes, drafting, etc. The only opposition in the handbook is a single listing based on religious texts. Heck, a measure that changes denture laws(M24) is closer than this one is.:Q

UPDATE: The TX Senate may or may not be called tonight.

It depends if Cornyn has a 360000+ vote lead on Kirck with all but Tarrant county reporting. They have problems counting the votes on their machines so they are having to move them all to a central location to a machine that works.

I have no doubts that Cornyn will win.

Did you even read my post? The problems arent filabusters they are the democrat controlled committees. On most issues the republicans hold dear to them, they could get passed if they could get them to full Senate votes.

Or just wait until the Democrats pass out from talking . . . hey, I know it takes a while, but we can be patient. I remember a guy reading names from a phone book one time. Real mature.

75% of Missorri is reporting in, Talent has a 73,000 vote lead over Carnahan.

Minnesota is way early, but Coleman has a 3% lead.

I can't believe Michigan elected a former Berkeley radical govornor. She's going to turn the whole state into Detroit... or worse, Flint.

Oh well, more auto jobs for my home state of Ohio I guess.

Colemans got a 11% lead over Mondale with 12% reporting, but I think Detroit counties have not been counted yet.

Oregon update:
With 51% now reporting, Mannix (R) has taken the lead from Kulongoski (D) in the gubenatorial race. Very, very interesting here. The media had Kulongoski winning by more than 20% just a couple of weeks ago. Now it seems very possible that Mannix will win. I think this has very much to do with Kulongoski's pro-tax stance, as he has said that he supports new taxes, including a sales tax (a VERY unpopular subject in Oregon).
And that's one very cool thing about this election here in Oregon: it's quite obvious that a tax revolution is on in full form. Virtually every bond measure, even school levies, are failing. Anything and everything that means tax increases is going down in flames.

FYI for national readers: it appears that Oregon has returned every Congressional and Senate incumbent this time around. No changes, no close races even.

I think it's cool your governor could be named Mannix. :D (I think I've been watching too much Nick at Night.)

Thanks for the update.

Having a sales tax would suck big time.

The "tax revolution" better not get in to full swing. If the income tax vote fails in January, there's a good possibility I won't get accredidation with some colleges due to the shortened school year.:Q

Sorry to say, but that income tax increase is almost certain to fail. I'm pissed off as well that the bureaucrats are taking it our against the schools when they should be cutting unpopular social services, but unfortunately that is the way of these things. After all, headlines of "State doesn't have enough money to pay welfare" don't generate as much interest as those that say there isn't enough money for schools. This is how the unelected bureaucrats get revenge on us for not increasing their budgets. Blame them, not us, the taxpayers. I already pay more than my share in taxes. I think it's criminal that they are cutting the school year when so much money is wasted on deadbeats and wasted programs.

My advice to you would be to find some extra classes or community college courses where you can make up the credits. Good luck.

Why does CNN state that 51 seats are needed for a majority in the Senate? Understanding the mathmatics, but with a 50-49-1 in favor of the Repubs, the Repubs will win just about any vote as the VP will have the tiebreaker.

looking at the live results only confirms my suspicions that the majority of voters are frickin' idiots.
