You'll be fine if you run it at high quality, 1024x768, and no AA. With Doom's low-contrast indoors environments there's not much need for AA.

Man I can't wait to play... I'll be running it on an Athlon 64 3200+ (Newcastle) with 9800 pro and a gig of ram, so it should run decently.

The thing that made me mad is that I'm taking summerschool between semesters in college and I have class at 10:20 am tomorrow morning. That kinda kills my chances of picking it up in the morning as soon as BB opens. Soonest I'd be able to get it is tomorrow evening (finish class around 5:30), but I'm sure the game will be sold out by then.

Well, I work at BB, and I can't pull a copy off for myself! It sucked, but if you do, it's a "terminitable offense" as the managers say... I thought for a minute and decided to grab one of the presell boxes we had left on the store shelves. Well, I purchased that one, made a copy of my receipt, and pulled a copy of the game and put it up with the sold orders with the copy of my receipt... A perfectly legit way of an employee holding a copy for themselves ;)

I love finding ways around the system, and this way I get a gay poster and pewter figuring I'll probly throw away too!

Just thought I would contribute something other than quotes and agreements to this thread for once... :D

So I got it at 7pm here on the west coast at EBgames.
The graphics are simply amazing, take time to enjoy the great heat effects and shockwave from firing off a rocket launcher.

And it's dark, very dark. In a few instances I was juggling my flashlight and shotgun just to know where to shoot....

I wouldn't say it's very scary though, but tensions do run high quite a bit :)

Multiplayer: Seems limited to 4 players? It was fun though, somehow I managed to telefrag someone though I'm not sure how. And the wierd screaming powerup thing, kinda like a psychotic quad damage...

Overall it's a fun game. It runs great on my AthlonXP at 2.2ghz 768ram & 9800Pro. on medium 1280x1024. It ran ok on high w/ but I didn't notice any real visual enhancement during normal gameplay. I can't wait to see what kind of mods come out for this.

Hey, that's good to hear. Looks like I'll run at 1280x1024 too as I have almost the exact same config cept I have 256 more ram :)

What do you guys think is the cheapest video card I can buy to run the game at medium settings w/ 1024x768 resolution assuming everything else is ok (2.4ghz cpu and 512 ram). I currently have a geforce 4 mx 420 piece of crap. I don't have the money to spend for a radeon 9800 so no point in suggesting that. I don't want to spend a lot of money on my system just for computer games. You think a radeon 9600? That's only 95. Maybe geforce fx5700? Or should I just keep my card for now if a cheaper card like the ones I listed won't make much of a difference? Thanks.

Serious? Does it run too slow, what is the problem? I have a 9800pro and an LCD with the same native resolution :(

How much ram? Doom3 relies heavily on ram and graphics card, not so much on cpu as other games.

Also I've seen people list that their sound card. Doom actually does all audio processing itself, a top of the line sound card won't get you anything more. Unless something has changed that I don't know of...

9600XT or a used 9500pro, or an nvidia card within your budget.

Is there coop? Last I heard only the Xbox version had multiplayer coop..

no coop for pc version

That sucks, I remember the DOOMI / DOOMII coop days... it was a frickin' BLAST back then with those on our office LANs. (Descent anyone?)

Here's to hoping that a coop mod will come out for D3

Thanks for the reply. There's a geforce fx5500 for 94 @ newegg. Cheapest 9600xt is 131. Cheapest 9600pro is 111. Obviously cheaper would be better if performance is equal. Will any of these make significant improvement over my current piece of junK? No point spending 100 for something that isn't noticeable.

I'm loving this game too. Actually got goosebumps on my legs at one point earlier today! LOL

I'm not loving the darkness. At least they give you a flashlight with a never-ending supply of batteries but enough is enough. Half the damage I receive is from baddies I can't even see. It is getting a bit tedious too with the PDA's(keycards) and the darkness. Did I mention the darkness sucks?

It will be interesting to see the games that follow using this engine.

I kinda got used to the darkness now and am now dealing a lot of pwnage to monsters with my plasma gun!! Those flying fire skulls are a PITA though.. i hate small annoying targets :frown:

After a while, you'll even get to predict where and when the baddies will come out.. that said, I hope that not the whole game would be dark as hell

Only a 1GB of PC3500 running at 446mhz. :(

I put it back on 1280x1024 after realizing that my overclock turned off with a restart. It runs pretty good w/ no AA or AF @ 1280x1024 on medium details. You can still feel it get hit when you walk into a new room and it loads up all the textures.

picked up my preordered copy 10am this morning from EB...
did anyone else get the strategy guide? apparently you mail in this ticket and a copy of your receipt and they send you $15 back...so i got one.

ok the game is scary, and im playing in broad daylight.

theres a small hitch when opening doors, sorta annoying that its not very fluid there.

I float between 26 and 60 fps on a Geforce6800GT (overclocked and I have yet to experience issues thank God!) and AMD AXPM at 2.5ghz, 512MB ram @ 210fsb.
High quality, 2x antialiasing, 1280x1024 on an LCD.

im happy to report that lights CAN be shot out, though only a select few of them... suspended lights usually always can be turned out, and it DOES make it dramatically darker, as if it wasnt already damn dark! heh i know you dont care about LESS light, but its a feature Ive been wondering about through development... (it was mentioned but not present in the "alpha" so i was unsure)

i had to take a break just now its so scary! i just walked back into Administration...

ill try out multiplayer in a little while...are there many players online yet? maybe ill see you guys there!

best of luck to those still trying to secure a copy :)

Got the game at 10 am this mornining from Gamestop. Set at 1152 x 864, high quality, 4x AA. Game is breath takingly beautiful, and atmospheric. It's quite clear that id took great pride in making this game. I had to stop playing after about 2 hours....very intense game. Made me jump and almost bite my tongue many times. The beginning was perfectly done IMO.

I can already see the lawysuits now...

"My son had a heart attack playing your game, Carmac! And my mother was standing behind him watching and she had one too!"

"DOOM3 reason for accidental shooting at police recreation center during blackout."

Pyschiatrists will be seeing increased profits from now till christmas season...

lol
