I'll pick it up a year from now for $1.99 when this machine gets upgraded.
By chance, did you notice if the milk in your Cheerios was a tad yellow this morning? :D

Any reason why it won't work in the US?

I imagine it would work just fine; I was about to do the same thing and sell my CD version to a friend. I mean, 5 freaking CD's, WTF?? Does this remind anyone else of swapping a million floppies about 8-10 years ago?

Oh well...I just hope Doom 3 comes out on DVD in the US.

So no one knows whether this is on CD or DVD? I sure dont want more than 2 discs.

I'm sure there will be a DVD. Never doubt Teh Carmack!

I just hope it won't be like FarCry where the DVD version comes out in the UK and not the US.... :brokenheart:

"The game will ship on either three or four CDs. Despite the hopes of hard-core gamers, though, there will not be a DVD version of the game, id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead told CNN/Money."

:frown:

If that's indeed true, it's time for me to start searching for a reasonably priced place to order from in the UK, since they seem to be getting a DVD version.

Are you a glass half full kind of person or a glass half empty kind of person?

A pessimist sees the glass half empty, an optimist sees the glass half full. A realist sees the same amount of liquid either way and a cynic sees another glass that needs to be washed.

I'm a realist and a cynic. I see a bunch of 13 year olds who need mommy to buy their games for them creaming their Spiderman Underoos over a game that might be good and might suck. I see a game with insane system requirements and will likely need something far beyond those requirements to run smoothly. I see yet another FPS is a field already overcrowded and stagnant. I see a game that will be forgotten by the same 13 year olds as soon as Half-Life 2 comes out. I see too many people who lack a life and get excited over a video game.

Anything I see that isn't true?

It's a tad yellow every morning. That's because it's beer. Have you ever tried Cheerios with milk? It's hard to imagine a more boring breakfast and that combo won't provide nearly enough nutrition to face the day. Replace the milk with something cold, malty and alcoholic and then it becomes an adequate breakfast.

Honest question since I've only seen Doom 2 played once back in '98 or so...

How is Doom 3 going to be better than UT2k4 ? I mean, the development time on it must've outdated some of their "original" ideas, no ?

Never accuse someone else of not having a life when you're posting on an online message board. You should know this by now. And besides the fact that your above post consists entirely of stereotypical generalizations, it's right on the money.

How is Doom 3 going to be better than UT2k4 ?

I can't say it will be better, but it should be different because it has traditional single player, which UT does not.

Who has it the cheapest? The lowest I've found so far is overstock for $47.65 after 10% coupon. Can anyone beat that?

You know, I thought about ignoring your post, honest. But, you're wrong on so many levels, I just had to interject.

I'm 30 years old, I have a great car, make great money, and will be getting married to the women of my dreams next year. Your sterotype is SO far off base, it makes me wonder what year we're really living in....or rather, what year you're living in. This game has been in the making for over 4 years and we can't get excited about it Mr Oh-all-things-must-suck.

Maybe before you pass judgement so quickly, you should do some research. The newest issue of PC Gamer has a review of the game. They gave it a 94% and it list a few testbeds they ran the game on.

Keep in mind the issue has an entire article dedicated to system requirements questions.

PC Gamer recommends:
2Ghz CPU
512 MB ram
Radeon 9800
5-channel audio

Lowest supported GPU is a Geforce 4 MX (worse than Geforce 3)
Supported cards:
GF 4 MX
GF 3
GF 4
GF FX (and higher)
ATI 8500s, 9000s and higher

The only thing it says is that one test system had a GF 6800 (!) and it ran "flawlessly at 1024x768".

Do those recommended requirments look like "INSANE"? No. Do you kow how many computers out there have 512MB RAM? The video card might be the biggest hurdle, but come next year 9700/9800 cards will be a dime a dozen. Now, are the requirments a little steep, sure. But its also a game that pushed the graphical envelope.

LOL! I love this one. Ok, id never came out and decided to do an innovative game. They set out to do a SCAREY game. They want to scare the living crap out of you! They never said that they were going to revolutionize the genre (like they've done in the past). Wake up, dude! HL2 and D3 are completely different games that just happen to be in the same genre. HL2 will deffinitly be more of a "thinking" game, but Valve also set forth with different goals when they began developing it.

So, why dont you just do yourself a favor and not buy the damn game. We all in here could hardly care less about you or the sh!t you have to say.

Dammit! I have to shell out $10 to buy a floppy drive!

GagHalfrunt:I can see where you are coming from but if people are willing to upgrade their computers to play this game, more powers to them. It could be their hobby and their source of pleasure. If mommies and daddies are willing to pay, good for them. I am sure many have upgraded with their own hard earned money.

I have a decent system myself that should be more than adequate to play this game even though I upgraded my computer about a year and half ago. There is no way I am willing to spend $500+ just to play a $50 game, I cannot convince myself.

Is there scans of the PC Gamer article yet? I haven't seen it in stores. Can someone post or PM me a link?

I think my system will be able to chug through Doom3 decently (I hope)

With Far Cry, Doom3, and Half Life 2 all out this year, should we all be buying video cards, ram, and cpu's, or should we all be dumping cash into ATI or Nvidia stock?

Seriously, ATI's stock shot up a little due to strong sales of their integrated chips, and their next quarter financial statements will have initial sales from their x800 cards, and we all know those were flying off shelves at $400+ each. Personally, I had to order my x800pro 5 times before I finally found one in stock.

It wouldn't be a bad idea, IMO, to pick up some shares of ATI.
