You can tell the game was built around the auction house.

True, and it'd be stupid not to say it was. And it's sad that they tried to deny it.

If any of us could had access to a money printing machine like that, I'm sure we'd take it.

So... back to being Blizzard's bitch: I can't believe I gave up on making Infernal Machines and rings for so long. I finally got back into it at Paragon lvl 69-ish. Damn, that 35% bonus experience is useful. Even if all the other stats on the ring suck...

I've done 5 runs of ubers on MP7 or higher and have not gotten a spine (leoric/maghda) to drop in those runs. I've gotten drops from the other ubers so this is pissing me off. Making me believe these organ drops are not truly random and there is some control in place by blizzard.

I remember going to The Arreat Summit (http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/) very very frequently and drooling over the items I wanted (Uniques/Sets). I knew exactly what I wanted, and there was no AH, and I rarely participated in random player-to-player trades.

I did find stuff like Frostburn Gauntlets (very useful with the +40% mana), Nagelrings, Tal Rasha's set stuff, Immortal King set stuff, etc., that was all immediately useful/desirable for my character, and all I had to do to acquire it was play the game. I didn't have to engage in some ebay-esque side game, or even trade at all if I didn't want to, and I'd still find, albeit rarely (and that's what made it fun/exciting!), some really rare/nice pieces of gear.

Things weren't so micro-incremental too. You'd get really huge upgrades in some of your slots, and these upgrades were pieces that were immediately useful, and that you could keep and be satisfied with for a LONG time. Nobody gets excited about going from a +150 str item to a +175 str item. Sure, your power has taken a very minor increase, but when there is no discernible difference in your power when you're actually fighting stuff, how is that worth getting excited over?

Also, the low-level stuff! There were GREAT low-level sets, whether you had just a couple specific pieces to get a nice partial bonus, or the whole set for an even better bonus. There were great low level Uniques as well (various boots, Tarnhelm, etc.).

word, the pieces in d3 just lack the zest from sets/uniques in d2.

Almost every set in D2 sucked lol. And so did loads of the uniques. D3 just has a higher SNR, at least in terms of what 'can' be useful. They're subject to more randomization which lowers their floor but in turn also raises the ceiling.

Multiplayer is built around an economy, just like multiplayer D2 was. Drop rates in both games are far too low and far too random to reliably "farm" a given item you want. You're relegated to farming for something you can 'turn into' the item you want. D3 just simplifies the process by providing a hub for doing business, rather than having thousands of tiny fragmented rooms. I think the AH is both a blessing and a necessity in a game of this scale.

I think the set and legendary items in D3 can be quite a bit better than the better D2 sets/uniques.

It's just that D3 set/legendary items are too random for most items. You now have to get lucky to get the item to drop and then get lucky on a decent stat roll for all the random properties for the item to be good. With that much random luck involved, most people are stuck with bad roll items.

And don't have the time nor the desire to keep grinding for that holy grail. At this point, I have pretty much grown bored with the game. Playing through the same story 4 times and then grinding on it as an end game was a poor design choice. I will still hop on from time to time but I doubt I will ever get into this game as much as I could, or wanted to.

Have you done uber bosses yet and crafted at least 1 HF ring?

If not, I would say at least experience the ubers and get one crafted ring.

That's pretty much what I do now. I jump on for a little bit, do some keywarden runs, collect infernal machines, and then fight ubers w/ my friends here and there. While doing all that, I slowly gain PLs and find legs/items to sell on AH.

But it is also getting somewhat boring. Hope they come out w/ 1.07 sooner rather than later.

Considering they haven't even started talking about the features they want to introduce in the next patch...it's going to be much later.

I did find their pvp update post to be HARlarious. Especially this paragraph:

"For us it comes to a few issues, one of which is depth. Simply fighting each other with no other objectives or choices to make gets old relatively quickly. We've brought a lot of people in to try out Team Deathmatch and, while some found it entertaining, most of our testers didn't feel like it was something they'd want to do beyond a few hours. Without more varied objectives, or very lucrative rewards, few saw our current iteration as something they'd want spend a lot of time in."

I'm not sure if they're talking about PVP or the game itself 😀

I am starting to really dislike my HF ring. =(
+33-56 Damage
183 Strength
5% Life
50% Crit Damage...

I just can't find a ring with crit chance that is anywhere close to those other stats. =(

I assume you're not looking for +life on something like that since you can't technically roll that ring. To get strength that high you need to roll a strength and a strength/other stat roll. Knock the str requirement down 83 and you could your ring easy.

This is what I've been doing as well.

When I get bored or the usual compadres aren't on, I level my last char to 60...mp10 speeds this up.

Sounds like you are only opening 1 portal at a time. You need to open all three at once, preferably in a group where everyone brings 1 machine so you are guaranteed 1 of each part needed to forge a ring.

Nope, we are doing full sets of ubers. I have like 20 machines. We always open up all 3 portals, but since we're on MP7 usually, there's no guarantee it'll drop. However, when i'm at 0 spines, 7 eyes, 6 fangs over the past 7 runs @ MP7, something seems wrong with that.

Grrrr... I just need 1 fang to make my second ring to give to my follower, and got invited to an MP7 game last night, then effing b.net connection dies. End up losing NV5, but rejoined just to help the group finish -- didn't bother getting me 5 stacks back since I could (and did) drop out again after 10-15 min.

I think someone who posted a couple weeks ago about the player-pool drying up, as evidenced by the lack of action on the AH may be on to something. I finally started getting better drops as I started playing higher MP levels about 2 months ago. For the first month I was selling things fine on the AH...then for the last 2 weeks I haven't been able to sell anything. No bids, nothing. I'm thinking this game's time may already have passed

I noticed a drop in action after that PVP post stating that is was being scrapped back to the drawing board. Plus the lack of a 1.07 PTR release or any good new patch news seems players have moved on to more exciting things for the time being.

I leveled a WD to 60 and am now leveling a Barb. the lower level stuff seems to be selling quickly. However, I don't list the items for ridiculous amounts. 100k tops..usually 25k buyout.

IMO They need to release higher level stuff. I feel like part the problem is everyone has already geared up so high now that unless you have the best rolls on an item there is no demand for it.

Even if they gave some kind of benefit to playing more than 1 class it would be better because items would sell quicker as people were bringing up their alts. But everyone grinding their one character over and over trying to squeeze out a 1% upgrade every now and then when they save up x millions is causing the AH to get stagnant.

I used to not get any level reducing affixes on items. Now all of a sudden, like starting a week or two ago, I'm getting so many minus level requirement items. So strange.
