What does it do? Do fans turn on or does absolutely nothing happen?

Strip the motherboard down to the complete basics (1 stick ram, video card, CPU and nothing else) and take the motherboard out of the case and place it on its antistatic bag on top of its box. Make sure everything is seated properly, plug in all the power connectors, and then try to power it up. If that works, slowly add components until you find out what was causign the problems.

The case fans turn about an half second, the lights on the board are on, but nothing else, the cpu fan doesn' t move at all.

That should be able to support everything. Do you have all 24 power pins plugged in along with the P4 connector, the floppy connector, and the molex connector?

If you do, you should remove the motherboard from the case and strip it down to make sure nothing is shorting out. When using one stick of ram, put it in slot 2.

If you have another power supply lying around, I'd try using it and also swap out yoru video card for an old pci one that uses very little power. If you've got other ram, try that too. If none of the above fixes it, it has to be the CPU, because every other component has been swapped out.

I swapped out video cards already. The dual core X2 should boot up if it has old bios in it?

Yeah, it should still boot, only it might be recognized as a single core CPU. The only thing I can think of is that your bios is one of the bios's that had the cold boot syndrome, which as I understand it is where the board doesn't supply enough voltage to the ram on bootup, which with some ram causes the board to not boot.

New bioses don't have it, but in order to flash the bios you have to boot, which is the problem. It is very likely that that is NOT yoru problem, I dont' remember if any stock bioses had it, but that was all I could think of.

Since it only happens on certain ram, I'd try some other stick of ram if you've got any.

Guess i'll order a different board in the morning, i'm tired of messing with this junk.I've been on DFI forums too, and a few more people are having the same problem, with no solutions. Thanks for your help :)

hmm..did they think at DFI street it was cold boot issue or bios issue with the cpu...very strange 2 different mobos are producing the same result

I know this mobo is ram finicky...do you have any other ram ...

can I have a link to thread over there....

hmm..I am cautious now about making any chnages to a working DFI SLI DR

If anyone did the Ultra-D to SLI-D mod and you don't have a bridge... ANY SLI bridge will work! (Gigabyte, MSI etc) Only ASUS won't fit bcuz they space their PCI-X slots further apart than other manufacturers and thus the bridge is too long. Gigabyte will sell you a bridge for ~10.00USD, not sure about MSI. You can also find the bridges on eBay.

you can use motherboard monitor 5 with a hacked file that someone created for use with the DFI nf4 boards. Do a search for it on the dfi-street forums, you should find it there.

Afaik there no longer is MBM5 is no longer supported but I can't verify that for sure. Nonetheless MBM5 is a fine program to use. Be aware though that MBM5 doesn't work for some boards and the configuration is not necessarily userfriendly especially if you are not familiar with the program yet. I have heard some reports that MBM5 can sometimes mess up and reports the wrong temps, but then that can happen with any program dependent on how it reports.

A good alternative is Speedfan - if you find that MBM5 is too intimidating at first hand try (or if it doesn't work for you) you can check if Speedfan does the trick.
