After much screwing about to get my Ultra-D Motherboard working properly. And numerous Memory compatibility / "you name it" problems.

I'm glad to say I am now an owner of a Asus S939 MB that works flawlessly. No more "DFI W00t - its teh bees knees" for me. Thank God.

Sorry you had that experience. Mine has been the exact opposite. I've had memory problems with over 1/2 of the Asus boards that I've had and they haven't OC very well. Thus my switch away from them for this board. It's my first DFI and has been rock solid stable. It is happily overclocking my 4800+ by over 400 MHz!

YMMV.

I've had enough of my Ultra-D I have replaced the PSU, memory, and videocard. I'm using onboard lan and sound. I've tried specific bios settings for my Corsair PC4400 that I found at dfi-street. I've put countless hours into messing with this thing. It's fun and games at first....

It's been nothing but problems. So unless the CPU is the problem, which I'm not going to bother figuring out, I'm going to just replace this stupid thing and move on with my life. I've had it since the first week it came out. I probably have one of the revisions where you could mod it to SLI.

I now get BSOD's, my first ever with WinXP. I can't take it anymore.

It's definitely the worst motherboard I've ever had.

I've been using SP2004 (Stress Prime 2004) in Blend mode to verify the stability of my overclocks. It is but one of the tools I use but I like it because it is one of the most rigorous tests for determining whether an overclock is stable or not.

Here's my scenario. If I run SP2004 standalone it will run absolutely stable, well over 24 hours. But if I run something else while SP2004 is running then it fails. For example, I had SP2004 running absolutely stable for over 5 hours. Then I went on the Internet via Firefox and also open up Nero to burn some DVDs. It was shortly after this when SP2004 failed. Here's the SP2004 log file:

"FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
Torture Test ran 5 hours, 38 minutes 33 seconds - 1 errors, 0 warnings.
Execution halted."

This only happens when I run other apps. The test does not fail when I just let it run, even over 24 hours.

So my question is, do I need to run SP2004 standalone for proper results?

The overclock:
Venice 3000 core @ 2700 MHz, hovering between 1.61-1.63v.
G.Skill memory @ 270 MHz (540 DDR), 2.62v; DRAM Freq = 180; 3-4-4-8
LDT = 1.3v
PWM IC = 50C

No. Your system has a stability issue. I use prime95 and make sure that after it's been running for a few hours, I do other things while it's running to really make sure that it's stable. I'll sometimes add superpi. You just want to make sure that you don't add enough memory use to start swapping.

I'm going to experiment a bit more in the BIOS and may just drop the FSB Bus down from 300. I don't like to push the vCore up too much.

Update to my previous post...

I bumped up the core to 1.64v and upped Max Async & Read Preamble a notch. That did the trick. I ran SP2004 in blend mode priority 3 for over nine hours and at the same time ran a video encode which took over 4 hours. While all this was running I was also surfing the net and doing some image editing. Also. I ran the usual 3DMark and AquaMark3 benchies. Needless to say, my system's rock stable. I'm may post the results in DFI-Street's Overclocking Database. I'm quite pleased with the results thus far.

does the Ultra-D have a compatability issue with Corsair ValueSelect PC3200 memory? I want to use the 2-1gb Corsair VS PC3200 that I currently have.

I don't plan on overclocking, just want a stable system and I like the Ultra-D layout.

Thanks

I tried 4/06 bios, but wasn't impressed with it, and found 11/14 to be the most stable with my setup.

As I recall that's not a good choice for this board, it does have issues espicially when oc'ed. I had 2x512 of XL in mine with no prob but I didn't push it too hard. Stay away from Kingston as well.

I love the DFI Ultra-D layout, but I want to used my Corsair ValueSelect PC3200 (2GB). If I don't overclock, with the Ultra-D run stable with the ValueSelect?

This hasn't been answered yet, kinda old post but I'll give you an answer here, With 100% stock settings and no overclocking or adjustments. I ran some cheap, crappy no name, generic, value, bargain bin memory at DDR400 stable for a month. Ran 2 sticks 1GB each.

Congratulations. Any idea what chips were on it? Might be something nice. I'm betting it is since these board are very picky about the ram.

Ok to the guy who had stability problems with the DFI motherboard. I ran into those at first but once I upped the voltage on the memory and cpu a notch everything seemed to run fine.

I also had some BSODs but I am running win64 and they only happened when I was copying very large files for some reason (2GB+). Not sure what that was all about but I fixed it eventually.

Now I installed a piping hot Athlon 64x2 4800+ and all is going pretty well. Hehe dual cpus and dual gpus, pretty sweet. My system config is as listed in my sig and I'm running Windows x64 pro edition.

1. Does anyone have a recommendation for the best ram for this mobo?

The thing is that I have these nice Samsung TCCD dimms but they are only rated at pc2700. I'm wondering if I should switch em out for faster dimms. But I'm concerned if I can get the same low timings.

2. I was thinking of upgrading my video cards sometime. But I wonder if someone who owns one of these mobos has managed to fit a pair of those new dual gpu 7950 GX2s in there? I'm concerned if there's enough space to fit both of the monstrous cards in there. Quad GPUs would be pretty sick.
