Review. Very good. Picked it up today as part of a "make your own six-pack" at a local beer store. Not too hoppy, not too sweet, just right. Very smooth.

Review: This reminds me a bit of the Unearthy I tried a couple weeks ago, but tamed down a bit, and it helps my palate a lot. Very floral with a nice amount of hops. I'd say this is right near my limit without getting too powerful. Seems like a nice beer to get used to while attempting to get into the extreme hoppy beers, though I don't know if I'll ever have the desire to. Honestly, the more beers I try, the more I feel content just to stick within the Sierra Nevada blanket of beers

Name: Southern Pecan
Brewery: Lazy Magnolia Brewing Co.
Type of Beer: Pecan Nut Brown Ale
Score: 7/10
Review: I'm not experienced with Ales, but this is quite pleasurable to drink. It definitely has a nutty flavor, as the name would suggest. It also strikes me as being ever so slightly sweet with a strong bite at the tail end if that makes any sense. Very good. Would drink again.

oh, and the other night I had a couple more draft noble pils, but at a different place, and they were much better than the first one I had. Nice easy beer to drink, tasty.

I didn't know so many different kinds of beers even existed until I started appreciating beer, instead of just being one of those "omg beer = piss" people.

I've learned to appreciate some fine products of a microbrewery here in Montreal. I also can appreciate various offerings from Sleeman, Miller, Becks, and several others. Personally, I find that Budweiser is tolerable for its price but not my preference of beer.

Until more recently, I didn't even know what wheat beer was. Now that I've been drinking more beer, my ability to distinguish the differences between different beer has increased significantly.

At the moment I'm working on my 6th sleeman original draught. For a while I was enjoying sleeman clear, then I realized it was only 4%. original draught is 5% and still good.

I don't particularly like "really fizzy" beer, or beer that has a really strong after taste. This "blonde" I had at the microbrewery was ok, but a bit too hoppy. They have a "blanche" that is not so much hoppy but very very good.

I am very glad to participate :)

Name: Innis and Gunn Oak Aged Beer
Brewery: Innis and Gunn (Scotland)
Type of Beer: English Pale Ale
Score: 10!
Review: I tried this last night. Rising the beer glass to my face, I realized that this beer smells AMAZING! Hints of so many different flavours. Upon my first sip I realized that this beer was to be enjoyed and not guzzled. It is aged in whiskey barrels and you can certainly taste the rye and other hints of wood/toffee-like taste with some fruity taste mixed in as well. It has a slight aftertaste but it is VERY smooth. I am buying more tonight... this beer is simply stellar... someone else try it and let me know what you think!

I believe it is also available in "blonde". I am GEEKED to try more of this.

I've still yet to try a beer that I can drink more than about 1/2 oz of, but have you guys ever had any of our local beers?

Lazy Magnolia
Abita

I'm kind of curious how they stack up to the more popular microbreweries.

Seems like Lazy Magnolia is only in about 5 states (AL, FL, MS, TN, LA), so I can't experience it. Abita, on the other hand, is carried by a store a block down from my apartment. I'll check it out the next time I do a custom six-pack and report back.

Abita Strawberry is hugely popular, but it's a little late for it. It's hard to find down here, so it may not even make it out of the Gulf Coast region.

Post Dark Lord Day, 3 new beers!

Name: Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout (2010)
Brewery: Three Floyds
Type of Beer: Russian Imperial Stout
Score 10/10
ABV: 13.00%
Review: Picked up some bottles of this yesterday at DLD and had a few glasses of it on tap. What a monster of a beer. I haven't had DL since 2008 but this was definitely an interesting flavor this year. I doubt I could finish a bomber of this alone due to how rich and powerful the flavor is. Bursting with coffee notes, fruit and a subtle malty flavor that finishes extremely smooth. This is probably one of the most serious beers I've ever had.. there just aren't words for how overwhelmed your senses are by it.

Name: Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout (2009)
Brewery: Three Floyds
Type of Beer: Russian Imperial Stout
Score 8/10
ABV: 13.00%
Review: In addition to the 2010 DL I picked up yesterday, I got a chance to try this and also get a few bottles of it. I have to say that the 2010 and the 2008 I had totally blow this one away. It's still a really, really good beer but it doesn't live up to the DL name in my opinion. I feel it came out far too sweet and that sweetness overpowers the other flavors a bit too much for my liking. That said, it has an interesting burn and almost soy flavor to it? Finishes with a nice dried fruit taste. I way prefer the 2010.

Name: Samurai Gazebo
Brewery: Three Floyds
Type of Beer: American Pale Lager
Score 7/10
ABV: 4.8%
Review: First time I've had this as I don't think they sell it outside their brewpub. Pours an awesome amber/orange color and has a very interesting hoppy flavor that finishes very tart with an orange/spice flavor. Made with Japanese sorachi hops, it was an interesting.

Stone was pretty good. Had 3 different ones earlier this month when they first got tapped at a local alehouse. Yum Yum.

Damn you, I've wanted Dark Lord for three years and still haven't tried it. I went to DLD in 2008 only for them to run out just short of where I was in line.

You didn't come hang out around bus 420 did you? lol. I remember some guy came up with different years of DL. Didn't get to try 2009 though, would have liked to.
I should have wrote down all the beers I tried. I'm going to try to find these folks to see if they can name drop something.
The best one I had all day was a 4 y/o 20% abv, from a now defunct brewery. Fucking delicious, smelled great as well.

Talked my dad into going here with me today at 5. I'm hoping to sample at least 2 beers, so I'll report back later. :)

Nope, wasn't me sorry.

I'm systematically buying out all the local Binnys of their Black Sun Stout stock :)

I got this today when I went to Eulogy. I really, really liked it. The hazelnut flavor was definitely detectable, but not even remotely overpowering. The other flavors of the beer really came together with the hazelnut to produce a very nice brew.

Another beer from Eulogy today. I'm usually not a huge fan of witbiers, but this was pretty good. The orange peel, citrus, and other flavors really worked pretty well together. This only gets an 8 because witbiers aren't really my thing, but YMMV.
