I asked about flashing the DFI with an X2 over on the DFI forum and someone else replied that they asked the same question recently and were told the board will boot with an X2 on the stock BIOS and flash without any problems. I'll keep you all updated on how that thread goes. I'm hoping to be able to provide a link to an answer direct from DFI.
Glad you actually got an answer... I asked the same thing over at DFI street and was told off by the moderator in a very rude manner that I should either buy a second older CPU to flash the BIOS first, or just have some place put a combo together for me so I wouldn't have to flash it (background: I don't have any existing 939 platform so I'll have to flash the board to the latest BIOS with an X2 already in it). Needless to say, my new ASUS A8N-E should suit my needs quite well, thank you very much.

Thanks for the help with the BIOS guides. I'm almost done benching, so I'll make my post soon. I haven't fully tweaked out the system for maximum overclock or memory bandwidth (mainly because I have only been tweaking it for about 5 hours), but the results are still good enough to publish.

What if these CPUs simply trickle out for the next couple of months?! AMD originally slated Q3 as a release, so technically they're ahead of that, but barely...perhaps what AMD was referring to was a "full scale" release in which case we're wasting time holding our breath. Unless we're a lucky soul here or there who plucks an OEM chip from someone, the rest of us are kidding ourselves that we'll see an X2 anytime soon.

Why so damn negative.....They were up on Tigerdirect for sometime and many of us could have bought them.....I see mainly that they just start arriving in probably small alotments to many really mid this week....Give it another week and then see if things have gotten better....They may have just been trying to get the oem builders the biggest chunks first...i dont see alot of 840's thru 820's as well...

I hear you...I was just speculating. I'm actually considering getting a cheap 3000+ Venice to tide me over until all the dust settles and prices fall. I'm curious if AMD plans to release even faster S939 X2 processors anyway, but I know announcements on that won't come soon either. I just can't stand this Celeron anymore! I need more than a web-browser for a PC :|

Indeed, and I see you've got a 3000+ running at 2.6Ghz - nice. Oh if it wasn't the weekend and I could get an order shipped today

Well I can tell you I didn't hit 2.8GHz like AMDZone did with their 4800+. However, not only was their processor 200MHz faster than mine at stock settings, but they used a 108CFM Vantec Tornado paired with a XP90C to cool their processor...the HSF I used is a Zalman 7700-Cu, and the fan on it has about half the air output.

I'm eyeing the TT Big Typhoon at the moment, might improve my cooling by a few degrees C. My ears can't stand a Vantec Tornado. Light water might also be a good idea, but we'll see.

did you test them both or the one for the customer is off limits???

What did you get a stock vcore...I assume they all should do 2.4ghz or 4800+ speeds at stock or slightly less...

jpeyton What are you doing with two chips? Did'nt you give me a hard time about what a "poor" value they was?;) I thought you were getting pentiumD's oh well you made the right choice after all.:):p

Also you may wish to try the other chip if you're not happy with OC? to OC these puppys will use about 140W, e.g. you need big time cooling if you want to see 2.8. so yea water of xp120 or TTTyphon

I got one chip for myself, one for a customer of mine. But I may fire his up too; he is probably going to overclock his anyways so I'm just doing him a favor...right? ;P

Duvie, stock VCore is ~1.25v, and it did just a little under 4800+ speeds. A small voltage bump stabilized it at 2.4GHz, and temps were still very low.

1.25v only? X2 vcore is in 1.35-1.4 range

I guess it is undervolted...

i agree I heard they were in the 1.35-1.4v range so with an undervolting boartd like my Neo2 I could see 1.3 or slightly under as actual under idle....If it was 1.25v stock then 1.5v would be a 20% vcore adjustment and would not be quite normal or safe....however if it is 1.35 to 1.4 then it is within the 10% range of safety...

Just thought I'd add that while Newegg doesn't seem to have the 4400+ in stock right now, they apparently have the 4600+ OEM in stock right now @ $861 shipped.

Another report.....a friend of mine on abxzone just told me he paid for a retail 4800+ and was shipped a OEM and when he called to correct his order the Monarch CSR got an attitude with him and said its not possible to change the order in the computer. WOW, now its the computers fault and can't be fixed, what a great resolution Monarch! I also searched a price search engine and it came back as Monarch having the 4800+ in stock. What the hell, why must they insist on lieing? Enough is enough. I realize everything is "hectic" right now with the release of the X2 processors, but dumb excuses aren't going to get you anymore business.

Wow, makes me even more glad that I canceled my Monarch order and purchased the X2 from Newegg instead (not to mention that FedEx is bringing it my way in the coming week, versus next month)...

Though, I've got to order something from Tankguys just because they've been so good with the updates. I'm sure it won't be long before I need something else for my computer. :p

Monarch handled the pre-release of the Venice/San Diego chips quite nicely, and I was extremely pleased with their service. Now I am wondering as if I should ever order there again. Maybe something has happened to them and their management team, like the folks from Dell came in to intern for them!

Yeah, that's why I originally preordered my X2 from them.

Well, if I hear reports that this string of bad happenings was just a fluke, I might consider ordering in-stock stuff from them in the future, but as a general rule I'm not going to preorder anything again. The hassle, worry, and stress is just not worth it.

The funny thing is I actually ran into an issue with a RAM order I placced, as a different order, with them at the same time as my X2. They said it was in stock, as I called and verified, placed my order, and heard nothing for almost a week. My status had not changed, yet my card was charged within 24 hours.

Something is going downhill over there. MonarchJoe's lack of presence here is also worrying me, because he was very active in the Venice Pre-Order thread, but hasn't been here.

The charging of credit cards before shipping orders is something I wouldn't defend them on. I really don't understand that. I would presume Monarch has net credit terms with AMD/distributors, so they shouldn't have to charge cards so early. Regardless, I think charging like that is really bad business practice.

On the other hand, Monarch having issues right now is understandable; for what it's worth, I wouldn't all lose in faith in them yet. I'm sure they're nuts right now and are just trying to keep up. I know things can get *very* hectic sometimes, and stuff falls through the cracks. Based on thier history of being a good company to deal with, I wouldn't count them down and out yet, and I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. These could very well just be isolated incidents stemming from a huge influx of work, and not necessarily indicative of a general slide in service/quality.

Absolutely no idea. Sorry I can't be more specific! We literall don't know; we haven't gotten any answers from AMD, and our 4 distributors are all saying different things. So the best I can tell you is that we will ship them to our customers as soon as we get them...
