Never had an issue in BF2. Of course, its also probably because the maps were so much bigger that you rarely get the "you're swarmed by a million enemies" situation.

...

Think you're remembering wrong. More likely it's the 64 player servers compared to game size in BF2 (unless of course you were playing on modded 64 player servers). There's also the fact in BF2 AT was 1/8 classes instead of 1/4.

Also the AT4 means that you don't get the issues you see in BF3. You can take out a tank at range assuming you have skill, and not expose yourself to danger. BF2 had maps that dwarf anything BF3 has and tons more tanks, and Engineers were never an issue because each class was so well balanced.

Engineers and AT were dead men in BF2. You would have to be a real team player and go around fixing the base assets or driving a tank to use those classes. With the map design in BF3, engineers needs competent primary weapons because infantry are always around the corner. Not so much in BF2.

The more I read this discussion and think about the game, the more I think they ought to simply do away with classes, period in the next iteration. Or, keep the specific class roles (medics can heal/revive, support can resupply, engies can repair, recon can... recon?), and let more or less every other piece of kit be completely open. Let people select whatever combination of weapons they want, and maybe impose some kind of weight limit or penalty for trying to carry too big of a loadout. Want a M249, Jav, and mines? Fine, but you're slowed to a crawl. This way instead of selecting a perk, your loadout can dictate your bonuses or penalties. Instead of a Sprint perk, choose a loadout that allows you to be more mobile.

MAG had a system like this, and for the most part it worked great. Only downside was they made you play like 20 hours worth of xp in order to respec. Eventually they made it more reasonable, but people moved on. Planetside 2 might have a system like it.

While I still disagree with everyone about the tank changes being for the worse, I definitely agree with the concept of limiting engineers somehow. Personally, I would prefer making the PDW weapon class the engineer's class, while merging the current engineer weapons into the other classes.

I stopped using Engineers a few weeks ago... trying to get my Support medal now... plus blowing up tanks with C4 is much more fun... there were quite a few times the tank driver turn his turret right into my face, fired off a shell, and somehow they missed - then I continue running up to plant two to three C4s to blow up the tank before they can fire off another shell... the noobs would back up to run away with their tank - automatically creating distance between me and the coming C4 explosion 😛... while the veterans just move forward with their tank to run me over before I can activate the C4 :colbert:

I use the Engineer class 100% of the time. I haven't played a second in any other class in BF3. It's been that way for most BF games. Mostly because I am a Combat Engineer in the Marine Corps, but also because I love killing vehicles. I am a tanks worst nightmare.

Speaking about Engineers being unbalanced, tanks and air craft shouldnt have unlimited smoke and flares. It's annoying when a plane never has to resupply any thing and just keeps spitting flares out to avoid stingers.

Ive ranked up my classes fairly evenly so far. 5 stars for the engy and 4 stars and for the rest, but getting really close to 5 for support. Been collecting the Mastery Dog Tags for weapons lately, have 27 so far.

I thought a headshot was a headshot in BF3? I have been getting lots of hit indicators with only the head visible and my sights right on but no death? Mainly pistols and assault rifles.

Since everyone's been saying the M1014 is overpowered since the patch (and dissing on my fav engie class), I of course took it upon myself to test it out today running recon.

Results? 49 kills in just over an hour. 🙂

Thanks, peeps!

That is the random bullet hit that we've been talking about on this thread... Dice put that in there...

HS is only OHK with some sniper rifles. Rest does more damage but is not OHK.

yeah, PDW's, shotties, that would work

I know you just express your admiration for me this way because you can't believe I beat you in the standings in half the games we play. 😉

By the way, SLU, Canbacon, and I could have used you on our team last night...

yes you have really picked up Bf3 well!

sorry I was painting my bathroom framing 🙁

you have more fun, I guarentee it

Here's my list for weapons recommendations post patch:
Assault: L85+heavy barrel. Super accurate and controllable under full auto fire. Also has the fast ADS movement speed which is a huge huge tactical advantage.
Eng: QZB-95B+heavy barrel+laser. This gun was horrible pre-patch but now it ROCKS. Basically the engy equivalent of the L85 but instead of foregrip it gets to use HB AND laser. They upped its reload time and it also has the fast ADS movement speed. Loving this thing so far.

Some folks in our clan, ( RAW ), have said use the 2 'suppression' perks with most weapons, and don't use 'foregrip'... What do you folks think?

Yeah the best squad perks to use are cover, suppression, flak, and sprint (or ammo if no one is support) in that order. Without cover and suppression you are at a serious disadvantage.

As for the foregrip, I see no use for it at all. It barely effects horizontal recoil while giving you a substantial accuracy penalty. Basically the foregrip now like the flash suppressor pre-patch.

Wait, the fore grip makes the gun LESS ACCURATE?! WTF

The forgrip reduces recoil but also reduces accuracy. The the gun becomes easier to control, but the bullets magically don't go where you aim.

It's kind of a crappy change, but it was done to make other attachments viable. Flash supressor and heavy barrel are the only attachments worth using on most guns now.

Still use suppressor all the time. Play a lot of HC and I don't like being highlighted on the map 🙂

Sort of relevant in SC as well, but most of the time in SC you are running around with a big arrow on top your head anyways.
