we should know more this week

lets not get too excited about rumors.

how annoying june is depends on how many maps. 4? annoyed. 6? 8?

And it's not really much of a bad/good developer, it's simply bad decision making.

I say that because many studios will take the same amount of time to work on something else like that, but they simply wait to announce until it has been in development longer.

Lately, EA pretty much requires release dates and hype building on distant dates to keep it in the mind of people I guess. I don't get it, and I hate it.
I much prefer the attitude, "it's released when we say it's done."
Trying to hit release dates and all that shit set by a major publisher ends up creating bugs and rushed features that don't pan out.
Wait until it's done, then set a near-term release date.

I use a RDS on the US sniper and run around with it....super easy to quick scope.

How the heck do you even see people with it? Maybe it's because I'm using a 19+ CRT and not the latest gear...things aren't super large on my monitor and I get some stuttering that doesn't always lend itself to long distance sniping.

How big is someone say from 300m out?

I wish you could just plain disable chat itself. The admin spam or general assholery in it makes it on all the time

You can turn set the the chat box to be on all the time, on for a short period when someone types someting new, or off all the time. I think with the H key.

This helps reduce clutter, but still doesn't do much for squad/team communications being scrolled away quickly by the admin or idiot spam :/

I don't snipe from 300m away. I snipe from 30m or closer. I hate staying still for too long, so I just run around quick scoping kids in the face with a red dot sight.

I'm surprised you win out more often than not on that, them having machine guns or shotguns, you have at best a semi-auto. You go for headshots then?

Sniper rifles tend to have larger caliber rounds and larger cartridges, so they tend to have great velocity plus greater damage.

It's all about reaction, aiming, and fire control. A bolt-action could outmatch anything, if someone is out-drawn.

I just figured the greater damage potential would be outweighed by their 3-5+ rounds hitting you the same time your round #1 hit them - assuming all else was equal.

I'll try it tonight, see how bad I get destroyed (which will be massively).

I was using the EMR you get from co-op as a battle sniper and was having fun doing it. Was using a 4x scope. I was doing good between 30-120m.

I use the L96 or SVD with a RDS, and a straight pull bolt. A quick scope and 1 shot to the dome from medium distance away is a 1 hit kill. Most people can't kill that quickly from medium distance with an assault rifle. Close-up it is pretty miserable, but at 25-100m its deadly. No bullet drop, no leading the target, and with the RDS you don't get as distorted scoping in and out.

most people spray you down with no accuracy and it takes 5+ body shots to kill you compared to 1 single well-aimed shot....plus you have a g18 for back up

Anyone else a jet whore like me? That is all I play and have gotten a bit better since I started playing BF3 about a week ago.

The problem is I need friends who are pilots. There is nothing worse than getting owned by two average pilots from the opposing team when you don't have any good pilots on your own team.

Anyone need a decent wing man? I'm no ace but I'm no noob either...

Add me on battelog... I'm a Jet Whore - I say I'm average but I do make it my #1 priority to get a boggy off my wing man's six or as a bait so my wingman can get on their six... spend more time in a Jet than Land vehicles and since I maxed out most weapons and I'm currently trying to get a Jet Medal... Fair warning -I crash alot and I don't back down from playing chicken in jets...o_O

But I might not be on for a few more days... playing Final Fantasy XIII-2 right now...

Anyone know of a good true 5.1 or true 7.1 headphone or headset (My current one is falling apart)? I don't care much if it has a microphone and I don't want to spend too much because I'm also looking to get an SSD, new CPU, or the new Keplar GPU soon...

I want to be able to hear someone creeping up trying to knife me... :p

I use a 23" monitor. On Metro when the RU is pushed back to spawn I can usually pick off people from far left side of A with the ACOG/M40 without much effort. It's nice when there isn't any scope sway and you aren't giving off glint. I seldom use even the 8X scopes with exception to the maps with very long sight distances.

Im not sure anything will allow you to hear someone coming up behind you in this game. Ive played using 5.1 headphones and 7.1 speakers and never hear anything when someone comes from behind to knife me. Ive never had this problem with the CoD series of games using the same setups, its annoying as hell.

"NOTICE Servers for Battleifeld 3 online play for PC, 360, and PS3 will be down for scheduled maintenance from 2 AM PST until 3:30 AM PST on 2/7"

Battleifeld

:D

I realize it's an easy to produce typo, but still... not even a quick spell-check? Surely every spell-checker worthy of the name would notice this, and underline it or draw attention to it, yes?

The sound of footsteps is one of the rare flaws in Frostbite 2's audio; it is otherwise phenomenal when the correct audio environment settings are matched up to actual speaker setup.
Headphones are particularly picky.

Virtual-surround headphones [ones that only have two drivers, or possibly separate drivers for low, mid, and high or some combination thereof for each can yet otherwise feature no directional features] typically rely on software installed or some sort of hardware box in the middle.

If the cans are USB with no hardware box or other such middle-man device, and uses software to achieve surround sound - such as the Logitech G35 that I own - in-game settings are best set to Home Cinema, with the Stereo Enhancement option disabled. This will then deliver Dolby Digital multi-channel audio; if you enable Stereo Enhancement, it will disable DD surround and will muck up positional audio if using any kind of surround equipment configured to receive direct surround audio at that time.

Regular stereo cans plugged into a stereo jack, select Headphones and Stereo Enhancement, unless you plan to use some other virtual surround software and/or hardware. Native surround headphones, using surround connectors of some sort, use either Home Cinema or Wartapes, no Stereo Enhancement or Virtual Surround settings enabled anywhere on the computer (and of course, necessary configurations are correct elsewhere on the system). Same goes for true surround speaker arrangements: if you have the requisite hardware - audio hardware in computer features true Dolby Digital Surround encode/decode - and your speaker connections are in order along with correct cabling, you'll get proper Dolby Digital 5.1 (not sure if 6/7/etc.1 configurations are properly supported?).

Thanks Destrekor for the explaination!

I currenly just have a stereo headset and want to go at least to a True 5.1 - the reason why I'm asking for help is because there are alot of "virtual" and "simulated" 5.1/7.1 headsets/headphones out there - I've been looking these past few days and I even seen "virtual" headsets marketed as "True" when they are not true 5.1/7.1 or made to sound like True 5.1/7.1 in the specs/marketing material...

I used to have an old "virtual" 5.1 and the sound was pretty good and I would turn around and shoot people when I hear them nearby or creeping up - people thought I had AIMBOT or hacking...LOL

EDIT AND UPDATE: Just found out after scouring forums for awhile that they are ALL Virtual and not really True 5.1/7.1... Which one is a good one? Logitech G35 I've hear mixed reviews and the new Corsair 1500 has mixed reviews too - both are under $100 right now...

If you're into gimmicks and mediocre audio quality for high prices (compared to your audio quality) then by all means get a gaming headset.

If you want amazing positional audio and much better sound quality get Audio Technica AD700's and a USB microphone for 5 bucks.

+1

I have the 700's and they are some of the best cans for this price. Add a cheap clip on mic and you are done. Blows the socks off the "gaming headsets"...

Consider these: http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/pc-gaming-headsets/ear-force-z6a.aspx
They are an updated version of the HPA2 which I have and they work very well. A nice feature is the inline amp has a master volume control as well as individual control of each channel for adjustment on-the-fly without having to get into software to make changes. Once set up I leave them pretty much alone except for the bass control. Usually it is at the lowest "volume" so as to not interfere with directional cues however there are those times when something nearby is about to explode or a tank is rolling by and I crank it up.

A bunch of people are probably going to pounce on this and tell me they are garbage. However, I have tried quite a few virtual surround systems on pc and console (such as astro mixamp, CMSS3D, sennheiser hd555 (modified), logitech g35, g930 plus many more). For the pc, the hpa2's have worked the best for me (connected to soundcard with analog).

As has been stated, no matter what solution, you'll never hear footsteps of someone creeping up behind you to knife you however.
