Me and a another forum member posted about going to Best Buy to pick up our preorders at the midnight release.

We both had good numbers but out of the 30 or so at my local Best Buy only 2 or so got a pc copy all others got console versions with alot of people getting the ps3 version.

Just based off that tells me alot and sadly i do believe MW3 might outsell BF3 on pc due to people not wanting to upgrade for BF3 and since BLOP pc players know MW3 will play as well as Blops that might interest budget gamers not looking for $300 gpu upgrades.

How many people bought a hard copy of the PC version, vs. Digital sales?

This may have been available as a digital version from Xbox Live and the Playstation store, but doesn't that eliminate the resale/trade in option? So who would do it?

I think it boils down to one thing - yes, the graphical staleness from no new engine is bad, but they keep the gameplay the same, but with new maps and stuff. For a lot of people that's all they want, they are not looking to readjust to a completely new gameplay style with every release. For indeed, it's about what you enjoy, not about proving that you can adapt.

This also explains why the Halo franchise was so popular in the Xbox world. I jumped into Halo 3 without trying the first two (and getting addicted when the gameplay was still original). By Halo 3's release, both the gameplay and graphics were just out-of-date. Eventually, this will catch up to the Modern Warfare franchise, when all the players who loved it grow tired of it or stop gaming and they actually have to sell to a new audience. That being said, putting out a new release every year does seem to keep people addicted to the same old game.

BTW, I own MW, WaW, and MW2. I thoroughly enjoyed MW single-player on PC, finished the WaW campaign in co-op mode on PS3, and had some fun playing the "special forces" co-op mini-missions in MW2 on PS3. I couldn't play multiplayer for more than 10 minutes without getting bored.

This may have been available as a digital version from Xbox Live and the Playstation store, but doesn't that eliminate the resale/trade in option? So who would do it?

I'm fairly certain there was no direct download option for Xbox or PS3. That's usually reserved for older re-releases and indie games.

I've played every map, what map is that. I read about a map you can jump high up but never found it.


Just a heads up to people, Nvidia is working on new drivers for BF3..sadly though they won't be out for 2-3 weeks. They found a major issue with bf3, and are trying to figure out why lots of peoples bf3 driver keeps crashing with videos, etc.

If this is happening to you, nvidia will hook you up with free game codes if you send in card to them to test it out.

That was awesome! I've done some crazy stuff in the game so far, but I never record anything. Do these people just have fraps running all the time?

Im 22 hours in and have had almost zero issues since they fixed the dc's from day one

check your drivers, mess with your routers, ETC ETC

even update sound drivers

I actually pulled my Xonar and downclocked my factory OC'd 570s a bit to see if it is on my end. The problem with that is every game prior to BF3 hasn't caused these kinds of problems. I had like 3-4 really good games in a row and then I kept getting kicked or the game would crash. Once it stabilized I was too pissed to play good. 😛 But then it kinda self corrected after not doing anything to fix it. I think it might have to do with the player counts. On Tugboat I start to have problems when its full, not when its half full. I didnt really have these problems in the beta.

To be honest, I think I would have preferred BFBC3. BFBC2 with these maps and no other changes besides 64 players. Not the biggest fan of some of the changes. Its somewhat like BFBC2 without the fun gameplay. At least compared to the way I played BF2, BF3 is kinda BFBC3 anyways, so they should have kept the sniper weapon damage, item tossing, knifing, defib kill behavior, etc, from BFBC2. In BF2 I used to love to go recon and take out enemy assets. Now I'm starting to get spammed by mortars from support guys and you can't do anything about it. Nothing more infuriating than getting killed and seeing the killcam..and its some dude kneeling perfectly still, and you just hear that thump. thump. thump. OMG!!! 😛 For some reason its worse than the snipers and mortars in BFBC2. Looking at the killcam and seeing a sniper looking through binoculars. lol I dont know how it can be worse than that, but it is. Good thing I am not an admin on a server. I see either one of those killcams and I ban the person! 😛

Lately, I've just been anti-mortaring when I grab Support class. Do a quick check for the icon, try to hit it, then get back to the game.

I would have been happy if they just put BC2 into BF2 style maps. Using FB1.5 too, since FB2.0 is too hard to see enemies without straining, even if FB1.5 means no jets for whatever reason.

I will say, mortars aren't actually impossible to counter, you just have to countermortar them. Magically enough, you can fire 10 mortars onto a motionless triangle for a regular enemy soldier and get no kill, yet if you fire a mortar onto an enemy mortar they seem to die in one hit.

But I'm with you in the sense that you are forced to countermortar because they just hide out in their uncap.

Mortars simply don't belong on Rush. As a general rule, I would prefer that servers be reprimanded and shut down for limiting weapons but DICE simply should not have put mortars on Rush, period. Rush is a mode that forces people to gravitate to 2, and eventually 1, single spot, it's a recipe for chaos. And remember, Alpha was Rush only. A lot of their game balance for Conquest is no doubt therefore unduly balanced by Rush.

What was DICE thinking with the mortar, anyway? Those guys are just blind-firing, right? Yeah, that's way more annoying that the sniper mortar in BC2. Which actually highlights that much of the mortar fire in BC2 was in open territory or from a hillside, which is reasonable. Mortar fire from block to another block, where you have absolutely no chance to see your enemy, is just absurdly stupid and game-breaking. I must have been hit 10 times by that crap last night.

On a completely different note, has any found the need to change firing methods from BC2? It was pretty much common knowledge that you had to fire while scoped in BC2 to have any hope to hit your target. I've been doing that in BF3, but the scoping animation slows things down. Over half the time when I encounter someone head on and go to scope, I'm already taking fire. Are people finding that shooting from the hip is more effective in quickdraw situations?

Agreed 100%. I knew it was a problem as soon as I saw how the targeting worked.

During the development process, considering the fervor with which they stated this was a BF2 successor, I had the idea that there would be limited ammo to balance things out. Obviously that quickly got dispelled by Alpha, which, I might add, they held mortar out of alpha and beta. So after that I had the idea that surely you'd have to use teamwork to use mortars, as in some kind of spotting requirement(like BF1942 artillery), or SOFLAM, etc.

But alas, no.

With that said, mortars aren't that powerful on conquest. On rush they are no doubt devastating but on conquest not so much. Of course, they still piss people off since the only real way to get back at them is to go mortar yourself.

True. Example: Their original intention for BF3 was to have spawn on squad leader only, but they reversed this decision because the attackers in the alpha had too hard of a time advancing.

Increasing the voltage on my GPU (or downclocking it) fixed my crashes so obviously the problem is some sort of power issue.

It seems that since they made noob tubes less attractive they had to replace them with something else.

That being said - be warned that I will use the mortar on ATOT's server when playing rush (once I get it 😛)

From the hip works very well. I also seem to remember reading somewhere that some scopes take longer than others. I think the more powerful the scope the longer it takes


Anyone else miss the commander and the assets? I liked that those could be deployed to help your team

That right there is why BF series has been the greatest multiplayer game since it first came out. It's not realistic, but it is a lot of fun.
