New Official Launch (AKA Single-Player) trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bEI8d1ivdI

first person imprisonment and probable execution - check
multiple teams going after self righteous terrorist leader - check
morally ambiguous soldier(s) - check
ambiguous nuclear threat - check

Still, looks like it's worth a playthrough. Visually looks impressive!

I kinda wonder if any of the vehicle parts will not be on rails,
especially the aircraft parts. That would be pretty kingly.

I still think the best part of the SP trailer is...the battlefield theme is back!

Aircraft SP gameplay already shown. You're a female copilot; your pilot does the flying, you're in charge of firing missiles and countermeasures. So, on rails.

Tank footage wasn't on rails though 🙂

Do we know if we can create our own soldier name once in BF3, or will soldier name = origin ID? I want to know this before I preload, b/c I want the same name I've had for the last 10 years.

I'm 57% downloaded.

Thank you for ordering Battlefield 3™ Limited Edition from Origin. The game is now available for pre-load. To begin, please follow these steps:

Launch the Origin Client and login to your account.
Click on the “My Games” tab and find the Battlefield 3™ Limited Edition icon.

Soldier Name = Origin ID. But, there are several options floating around for changing your Origin ID to something you want.

is there any preloading for D2D orders?

Yes, supposedly started 7 AM PST today. Waiting on an e-mail from them.

Edit: When you get a chance, try logging in Direct2Drive and viewing your games. There should be a download link next to BF3, and your key.

Download and when you try to play, see below. People are crying over at the EA forums b/c they thought they'd be able to play SP today.

Hmmm, I don't remember EA saying anything about being able to play SP today. Only about pre-loading today. I know that press and EA testers are playing singleplayer/co-op today.

Inauspicious start from a technical perspective. I've received the "Your Order is Ready for Preload" email 5 times in the last 10 minutes...

EA's whole system is kind of a clusterfuck. I got probably 7 "case closed" messages after a support incident with them.

3.3MB/s

I don't think I've ever gone that fast before.

11.5 meg/sec maxes my 100 mbit.

About 10 megs faster than Steam. Transit is actually fairly OK in that Steam is the only thing that seems to not be able to max my connex.

At least origin has one thing going for it. Steam is ridiculously slow in US Central.
