Definately sounds like the Commander position is out. But, it sounds like they have some ideas about squads and possible command structure that they are keeping under wraps for now.

Whatever they're doing with commander, if it's not the same as BF2, then they are taking a risk, and it better be good. If it's not, then combined with the 4 kits thing, it's already false advertising that they are calling it the "true successor to Battlefield"(which implies BF2 as any reasonable person will assume).

How is it not a true sequel because they don't have 6 classes? The class loadout in BC2 was great, and way more customizable than BF2.

Because they made such a big deal of BC2 being a spinoff, calling this BF3 a "true sequel to Battlefield" gives the implication that features would primarily be derived from Battlefield 2 not BC2. It absolutely 100% implies that there will be more of a connection to BF2 than BC2. Now, with that said, I admit, kits alone might be OK, but you have to admit that it's at the least very interesting that they claim a true sequel to Battlefield, yet the very first few pieces of confirmed information about the game are features directly from BC2.

Now, the commander isn't confirmed KIA, but their comments in the article are not hope-inspiring. If they find a way to have a command structure that works and feels good then fine. Not having command at all, in any form, is not fine. But the true Battlefield test will be things like the commo rose.

It's important to be vocal about these things now. Someone from DICE actually claimed they "hadn't heard any complaints from console players about number of players on console", so taking a "let's wait til beta and then worry" approach will only lead to bad things. People on the EA UK BF3 forums regardless of platform have been talking excitedly about additional player capacity for months, it's unthinkable that they claim to have heard nothing. Maybe no one spammed their private emails, sure, but not reading their own forum?

jets and prone. That's enough to sell me.

Man. BF2 demo was alone to make me drool for hours and hours. Then the real thing.

BC2 on the other hand? I bought it and was immediately disappointed. I still play it, but we'll see. Maybe because I'm such a terrible chopper pilot but I can fly decently in BF2 on the jets.

All pre-orders, and all orders for the first month or so of BFBC2 were automatically Limited Editions. I believe at least all of the pre-orders for BF3 are LE, too.

yea i took the advice and pre-ordered mine at amazon for $10 cheaper than other places.

the plus ot the bc2 4 kit system was the ability for medic/engineer to get real guns

but it meant other classes werent the powerhouse they were, there isnt as much of a tradeoff, which I suppose was needed with 4 person squads

I have to point out that there is no guarantee to get the game to you on release day, as there often is on pre-orders. In fact, they are advertising free "Super Saver" shipping, which is 5 to 8 business days.

Who knows, maybe they will change that eventually.

release day shipping option shows up closer to the release date. that was the case with many games i bought from amazon in the past.

This is what I'm counting on. I pre-ordered from Amazon and will change my shipping option down the line when they make release day delivery available. If they don't, I may cancel.

I hope the physics effect on soldiers from explosions and such also include a kick when hit by bullets. In BC2, I had a guy charge me with the knife while I put 2 burst from the AN94 into his gut.

The knife had an auto-aim effect as well, I wonder if the animation itself was unstoppable once fired off while in range?

no you can miss with the knife.

you have to have it timed right with the anumation to knife someone

its not like MW2 where you can hit the key and its autokill

I do with more blowback/explosion physics were there

I would be OK if I got tossed 5 feet when the tank I was next to blew up, and there was an animation involved, because well, thats more realistic

Heh I met a guy around a corner the other day and put two from the M14 into his torso (hardcore with magnum ammo). He knifed me, I died, he kept going. I was WTF..

Any idea when this'll be available in stores? I know subscribers always get it first.

Any interesting bits so far?

You can read it online, people have scanned it. I think there's a link a page 3. Won't really tell you anything beyond what this thread will tell you.

Since you already know that there will be jets, 64 players and prone, I personally wouldn't read the article if I were you, the only other information it gives raises more nagging questions in your mind than it answers.

Why you being a hater? This is the first big article on the game. I'll definitely be going to pick this up somewhere.

Not being a hater, I am finding myself now hoping among other things that commander isn't being axed, due to comments in that article. zh1nt0 popped in at the EA UK forums and said "I didn't see Patrick confirming anything in that article " in response to concerns of no commander. Hopefully it's not premature to take some relief from that statement, as it merely confirms that they aren't confirming anything, lol.

Battlefield 3 teased, PC is top priority

By Matthew DeCarlo, TechSpot.com
Published: February 10, 2011, 5:07 AM EST

With consoles receiving a lot of preferential treatment lately, it's no surprise that PC gamers immediately questioned the development focus of DICE's upcoming Battlefield installment. Fortunately, Game Informer affirms that the title is being crafted with PC gamers in mind. "We won't make it for console and port it to PC -- that's not how we do things," said executive producer Patrick Bach. "We're focusing on PC first, and then we fiddle with it to fit it onto consoles."

The studio was serious when it said it wanted to build the best Battlefield ever. Battlefield 3 has been on the whiteboard for years and its team is twice the size of BFBC2's. DICE has been waiting to harness the power of Frostbite 2.0 and the company shared some impressive details about BF3. For starters, it reportedly features improved lighting elements, with one "probe" containing more lighting information than an entire level of 2010's Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

The game is expected to launch in Q4 2011 with an M rating and features co-op play, four classes, more unlockables and better, more immediate post-release content than BFBC2, along with well-balanced character customization that doesn't rely on "pink rabbit hats." Level destruction has been cranked up, character animations are more realistic courtesy of EA Sports' ANT engine, war sounds have been captured at various distances to ensure realism, and improved audio cues.

The PC version has 64-person multiplayer while consoles will be limited to 24 (supposedly because console gamers are happy with that). Settings will include New York, Paris, Tehran, Sulaymaniyah, and Iraqi Kurdistan, but it isn't clear if any of these will be specific to single or multiplayer. Mod tools won't be available at launch -- if ever -- because Frostbite 2.0 is said to be too complex and DICE would rather focus on polishing the game instead of simplifying its dev tools.

I have a bit of a technical question. think of a map like Kubra Dam in BF2. Never mind that there's no water in that map, just pretend there was...how long will it be before the technology allows game designers to build a multiplayer map that can have a dam be attacked and burst, flooding the level? 2015? 2020?

Think they could do it now, as long as you don't want realistic physics on the water flowing out. If you wanted to fully model it, I'm not sure.

I think what would be cool if one of the map had a bunker system or something that you had to fight through. Might have to ban grenades in the bunkers though. I would like some indoor close combat that's more than just a 4 room house.

Fighting in the Palace on the Warlord map in BF2: Special Forces was fun.
