Edit: Notice today's date on Close Quarters. I'm assuming this is PS3. So maybe PS3 Premium gets a week ahead of other systems' Premium?

People that got the Limited Edition got one DLC , Back to Karkand, free.

You, like any body else, will have to pay for any other DLC package that you want, $15 each.

Or, you can pay the $50 fee for all of them, plus get early access, and all of the other goodies they are offering.

Many of the things they mention, like new vehicles, new assignments, new game modes, new weapons, you will get as long as you buy the DLC that they come with.

The only thing in that vein that you can bring back to the default maps are the new weapons (or camo and dog tags).

And there is a patch due tomorrow. (No charge!)

Edit: Oh yeah, you may be able to purchase Battlefield Premium starting tomorrow, and with it get Close Quarters!

Thanks for clearing that all up!:p

The only map of interest to me is actually Karkand as its the first ever pc game title map i ever played online and that was in 2006,so a nice trip down memory lane, but as for close quarters,im not to sold on the Metro map in a smaller package, its gonna be spammers paradise.

Any notes on whats expected with the patch today?:)

How do you guys think they're going to implement the AC130? Even on the biggest BF3 maps, wouldn't it still be too small for an AC130 to fly in? Maybe all you get to do is man the guns and the plane is flown on a predetermined path like COD?

AND a scud missile. Where is my scud? Desert Combat was so awesome, too bad DICE screwed everyone over when they bought Trauma out. Gamers and them. DS also had shoulder fire AA that actually worked.

Well BF1 had B17's with 6 player crew positions so I don't see why not.

Just watched the BF3 portion of the EA press conference, I was hoping for some more gameplay footage of the DLCs but alas, they showed only the already leaked video. Guess I'll be dropping 50 bones this evening for the Premium package :)

Anybody else notice on the Premium page, that for armored kill it says 4 new maps and Biggest MAP ever. So only one map is going to be super large and the rest will be normal bf3 size??

Wow, they changed a lot to battlelog. It definitely has a metro style feel to it.

*edit*: I wonder if they only changed it for the premium users.

I got a huge banner message saying Canbacon purchased the premium deal. Congrats! ;)

Guess they're trying to make us feel like all the cool kids are doing it!

Downloading 2GB patch now. I assume it included Close Quarters, although I'm not buying the Premium package at this point. I really don't think this "early access" concept is going to work that well. You just won't have enough people playing during those two weeks and it will dampen interest and splinter the community.

BF3 Premium is 50 bucks? BUHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH. Good Luck with that EA

Honestly, if you are going to purchase the majority of the expansion pack DLC, then you might as well go premium for the discount. I personally would have liked to seen a lower price for people who have karkand already but, I think I will enjoy it all the same and get another 200+ hours out of BF3.

I just realized something about the premium package. There are advocates(including me) of not buying CQ but do buy AK, so as to show DICE that small meatgrind maps aren't the most important to Battlefield.

Sadly though, Premium, which gets you all DLC, will allow them to say that everyone who was going to buy CQ simply bought Premium.

Damn. My biggest concern is paying $50 when everything else except close quarters (which I am a skeptic of) is so far away.

1) Time value of money
2) Unknown community - March 2013 is a long ways away!

time value?

yeah 15 bucks in a year will be worth less than 15 now

but inflation isnt currently high enough to wipe away the savings

it looks like there are PREMIUM only weapons assignments, there are atleast premium only assingments, I can't see what they do

can anyone tell me what they are?

yeah even 5 bucks off would be nice since the LE cost another 10 bones for most people

DL'ing the 2 gig patch now, will purchase Premium later this evening.

Im still confused as to when Close Quarters will be available to play for Premium buyers. Immediately? Or on June 12?

- 50 quad heals

Bullet Provider (Support):
- 50 kills with the PKP
- 50 Squad resupplies

Location Scout (Recon):
- 50 kills with the L96
- 25 HS with the L96
- 25 radio spawns

Wrench Wielder [though they misspelled it on the title 'Weilder'] (Engineer):
- 50 kills with the SCAR-H
- 50 Squad repairs
- 25 kills with shotguns

Jack of All Trades (unlocked after completing the above):
- 30 kills with AR's
- 30 kills with carbines
- 30 kills with sniper rifles
- 30 kills with LMG's
- 15 kills with pistols

so what is "conquest domination"? because conquest is already basically domination

That's a good question. I never saw an official description from DICE. After a bit of reading, this is what I think:

You don't pick a spawn, you will spawn randomly near a flag your team owns.

It's preferable to have alot of spawns, so the opposing team is not camped around the few spawns you have, mowing you down immediately.

I didn't see it written, but it seems likely your teams could have no spawns, and be "capped out" (it's called Domination, right?). Not sure on this point.

The other difference seems to be that flag captures happen much faster.

I think that's it.

Lots of videos popping up on YouTube, if you want to check out a match.

No, it is for every one. I expected a required download, but as it is a web site, it was just "there".

If it's not clear to anyone by now, here is the release date schedule for Close Quarters:

  • Battlefield 3 Premium Members - PlayStation 3 - June 4
  • Battlefield 3 Premium Members - Xbox 360 and PC - June 12
  • Battlefield 3 Players - PlayStation 3 - June 19
  • Battlefield 3 Players - Xbox 360 and PC - June 26
