i was thinking of going ivy or sb-e, but with the CPU thats on the retail edge deal....its s2011 and I am not sure I want to sink that much into a rig at the moment. might sell what I have laying around and wait for haswell

You won't notice any improvements at all upgrading from your i5-2500k... in reality I upgraded from my AMD Phenom II x4 965 rig to an i5-2550k rig and preformance in gaming and applications were HUGE Improvements in my opinion... I can even record my gaming sessions with no lag or issues now using FRAPs... my brother bought my i5-2550k because he was too lazy to make the hour drive to Microcenter (Tustin, CA)... so I just used the money to just purchase an i5-3570k...

Going from an i5-2550k (i5-2500k) to an ivy i5-3570k is basically the samething, except Ivy adds support for PCI Express 3.0 & Native USB 3.0 support...

I suggest saving your money and waiting for Haswell

The reason for a GTX 670 = going to purchase a 2560x1440 monitor soon...

Picked this up during the Origin Memorial Day sale, so if you guys see me on, take pity (ha!). I've played every BF game since 1942, but I feel completely lost.

As for the game itself, it looks great and I'm thinking it will be a lot of fun once I get acclimated. But Origin, the browser-based launcher/game lobby, and the entire single player campaign pretty much suck. Not that I care.

What's your BF3 your name? Mine is same as forum name. I agree the lobby isn't that great although I have to be honest Origin really isn't that bad. BF3 is like all the others its really a multiplayer game.

Im slightly CPU limited actually.

If I OC my GPUS I get 0 more FPS and load % crawls down a bit.

I want to put them on water, but havent, mostly due ot the fact that I wont see much improvement (besides noise obviously!)

I would build out s2011 and sell my q9550 'HTPC' /gamer rig probably and move the i5 to there

my wife has a pentium dual core but its way fast enough for her to use IE and office and I dont want a big rig idling up there chewing away at the power bill 😛

I need to audit all the crap I have laying around and sell more of it that I dont need anyways, might be able to pay for s2011 right there

I'm going to snag the cpou and ssd from the deal and CL them if nothing else. thought the SSD is quite an upgrade over what I have so I might keep it

Why? So you can hunt me down? Heh, it's the same as my forum name. I actually started to improve a little last night.

My biggest issue with the browser is that it just takes too long to get into a game, but then that's been true of the whole series since BF2 anyway. On top of that it looks messy and has too much information crammed into the window. I don't know why they felt this was something to do in a browser anyway, but whatever, it doesn't detract from the game.

So I just hit rank 8, three times. I've played 3 matches and it never saves my stats at the end. One of them went into the next map, so its not because I quit and they weren't saved. I keep ranking up at the end of the round, but when I leave I'm still rank 7. Found some other people having the same problem, Battle Feed shows their recent stats but they aren't saved, although Battle Feed doesn't doesn't show mine.

Not sure if you're serious or something is wrong with your computer, but the server browser for this game is the best thing around.

Yes, serious. No, nothing wrong with my computer. I don't like the implementation, but to each his own.

I think it is EA way of creating and implementing a "Social Network" for EA gamers...

Anyhow... don't worry, us "experienced" ATOT (AnandTech) will be your personal body guards... but if you're on the opposing team I can't promise I'll play nice! :sneaky: :whiste:

however much I hate to admit it........around the time my stats started going up.....is when I started to play some TDM and SQDM(on 32 man 8v8v8v8) servers some of the time

history_graph_5-29.png

so....thanks to canbacon and SLU for getting me to play it....

That's great. Its def. fun to mix it up sometimes. How is the "skill" calculated? Is it even relevant?

When you kill people with higher skill than you, yours goes up. When you get killed by people with lower skill than you, it goes down. It's a decent estimator in general, but can be skewed depending on what types of games/maps/vehicles/servers you play.

This, very much this. Awesome when you can get into a squad together with the guys, but if you are unlucky enough to get put on the opposite team the ATOT people are ruthless. 🙂

Yeah, agreed. I mean, after using it awhile it works well enough, but I still have complaints about the implementation, and ultimately I don't think creating an "EA social network" is worth the compromises. I'd rather just launch the game once and have access to options, server browser, friends, etc.

Had a blast last night. Think my high game was 16 kills to 10 deaths. Pathetic, but improving.

Got strafed to death by a chopper hovering right behind me that I neither heard nor saw any sign of (dust/shadow). Launched a few dozen stingers at aircraft and got like one hit. Grabbed a tank and got destroyed by a kleenex that blew across the road. Yeah, baby, it's Battlefield all right 🙂.

you guys with 670's......how is it doing at 1080p?

Benches4U:

Singleplayer - middle part of Swordbreaker mission

Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg
14111 197139 40 126 71.579

This is 1080p, All Ultra, 4xMSAA. With an offset of +135/6600, which is about ~10%, and slightly above a 680.

Multiplayer - 5-minute run in Caspian

Frames Time (ms) Min Max Avg
23935 300000 53 114 79.783

This is 1920x1080, All Ultra, No MSAA. Clocks were at +135/6600.

FWIW, running at my native 1920x1200 knocks 10% off the frames.

Hi,

Can anyone here teach/tutor me on flying planes and copters on PC? I mean, enter a session with me (I guess private would be best), where we use headsets and I can ask you questions and you can show me. I know it's a big thing to ask but I am absolutely terrible and I know a lot of it is simply not knowing the right commands/mechanics.

For the helicopter, the best way to practice before heading into multiplayer is the first co-op mission. It starts you in the air, but it basically shows you the mechanics for the gunner and the pilot. Honestly, gunning for SLU or any of the other really good pilots, will help show the tricks of the trade for flight routes and tactics. When you feel confident, hop into the pilot seat and give it a whirl.

If you have a copy of BF2, single player mode works wonders in Dragon Vally(?). As BF2 has a harder helicopter flight mechanic.

Also, youtube videos are actually helpful. As they will definitely outline basic maneuvers.

This, BF2 taught me to fly. The youtube basic videos also work well for intro. If you're still on, I'm going to play a bit so I'd be happy to show you the basics. My BF3 name is the same as this forum, but no space (SLUAequitas).

What's your BF3 name?

My BF3 name is theReadDVo, same as forums. I will add you to my friend's list. I have never played with other people (besides strangers), so I don't know the correct etiquette. Like how will we communicate to each other so we enter the same server/game? Do you use some third party chat program or something?

P.S. I won't be home from work for another few hours.

Edited - Sorry I forgot that my usual handle was taken on BF3. My name on there is theRealDVo!

Nope, just join a party and we'll use battlelog's built in chat. Couple hours from now is fine, I should be on, if not as long as you have me added on as a friend I'll be happy to play if you're on.

I sent you a friend request. Sorry for the newb questions. I am (only) level 21 and I know for a fact there are many things I don't even know about.
