The best guns in the game are unlocked from the start so don't sweat it too much.

Ehhhh, not so much "best" (although you could say that in some cases), but they're definitely competitive; after that, it comes down to personal preference. Either way, you won't be at a disadvantage due to weapons. That being said, they also unlock pretty damn fast anyway (especially the LMGs).

Telemetry only tells you what is happening, not why. If Metro is the most popular map, I submit to you that this is because people are looking for the fastest kill rate possible(even if that also means fastest death rate) in order to burn through the unlocks faster. And then there's also the fact that consoles, with their 24 player maximum, need a smaller map in order to even find enemies to kill. If console players had the option of going to 64 players they might play larger maps.

Also, DICE has been unwilling to release exact numbers, but I suspect that if you add up all small maps and add up all large maps, large maps as a general concept will look a lot better than DICE implies.

This is me 100%. I don't have a lot of time to game anymore, and when I do, I dedicate half the time to leveling a certain item (I just unlocked soflam this week) and the other half to having fun.

finding players to kill on larger maps on the console is not an issue at all

The simple matter is that people play metro not because it's a good map (sorry DICE, it's the worst map you've made), but because it is the simple easiest way to level up/legally stat pad. Seriously, throw an ammo pack down and in a couple of hours you'll have most of the support kit unlocked. The chokepoints of the map (particularly on conquest) ensure a stalemate usually at the stairs up to B, making it easy to camp'n'spam.

Seriously, worst map ever but everyone plays it at some point for an easy level/unlock.

Some truth there but on the no explosives server it's actually pretty good. Plus flanking a team and wiping them out is priceless.

That is pretty rare, a well placed TUG and a properly equipped sniper will have any flanking area locked down around B.

It's pretty rare but when it does happen it's pretty epic. 4 out of 5 times you will die after killing one or two, but like last night I was able to sneak around behind the enemies spamming the steps, knifed 2, and unloaded my gun on 3 more before they caught on and took me out.

I can completely see why Metro is the most popular map. For me, it's a great map to unwind on at the end of the night before I go to sleep. Mindless slaughter for 15-30 minutes. Also when I refresh my server list, the majority are running Metro... :\

I'll admit that I really like Metro maps. While some like it because they can spam 203s and grenades I like it for the fast twitch action. I actually don't like it when it becomes a camp fest - I want the front to move

I used to like Rush a lot but it was getting hard to find a good rush team. Often the attackers would just camp which caused me no end of frustration. With Metro at least I can give up, camp and still get points.

I too wish they'd stop with the leveling and unlocks. Just give each class a weapon set, and be done with it.

! I think thats a big part of what keeps people playing. I am a bit sad now that I am beyond the unlocks. I used to have that anticiaption and excitement for a new weapon but tahts gone. don't get me wrong - I still play a lot but I do miss the unlock progress

Personal preference is of course most important, bu there is no denying that very few guns are used competitively. M16a3/ak74m for assault and m4a1/ak74u for engineer are arguably the best overall weapons for each class.

Metro is my least favorite map for any game mode, I havent played on it in ages. I did play it some when the game first released for the reasons others have noted; fast and easy points for quick ranking. Now its the only map I filter out.

I always try to flank up the rear elevator instead of noob tubing - I only use Support Class in this map so I can't be caught with my pants down reloading.

If I get pass the elevators I usually rack up 20+ kill streaks... I learn to use the MG 240B with xtra AMMO so I don't have to reload...

The most important thing I learned is that when I mow down 20+ players... I have to run down the esculators jumping up down like a lunatic to let everyone know that B is clear for them to rush up - if I don't do that people would still be noob tubing and the enemies respawn to recover their positions...D:

I don't mind this anymore. If my teams wants to camp, I'll just pick off the defenders when they get impatient and slowly move my way up. They'll they start hanging back or defend the other mcom and I can make a move towards the one I want. I can arm mcoms by myself 3 or 4 times, but its hard to hold it by yourself. I don't get frustrated when I'm getting kills.

Now, being pushed back to spawn and not getting any kills? Thats a rage quit, but not specific to Metro.

Can someone explain, how is it that in tdm you see guys parachuting onto rooftops? I just played a map where 90% of the other team parachuted in and were sniping from the rooftops. No wonder we lost. You cannot climb up there to get them.

If you put a spawn beacon next to a building, it spawns you in the air randomly.

If that happens, just bring out the mortar or rockets. Then a MAV to kill the spawn equipment. Unfortunately, this requires a bit of teamwork.

The fun part is that you can do some counter sniping and it really pisses them off if you kill them with a HS shotgun slug.

Especially if they are on top of the crane on Nashahr Canals and you snipe them with a shotgun from the train tracks. :D

I had a guy go into a ballistic rage at me the other day because I kept RPG'ing him and his squadmates off the crane. Id just sit there and watch for them chute in and then give them time to set up another spawn beacon, then Id blast them all off with one shot. He called me a RPG spamming noob and every other colorful name in the book, my reply each time was......."stay off the crane". :D

EXACTLY. If they want to be cheap and go up there, what stops me from using any of my tools to get them off the crane? If I go up there, I expect rockets/nades/MAV bombing to commence.

I would almost go as far as using the M26 bug to pick the people off of the crane, almost :p

Update getting pushed out? my bf3 just patched
Nothing major:
We will publish an update to the BF3 PC game client on the morning of Friday April 27th.

The game client is compatible with the currently-live clients and servers.
There will not be any corresponding updates of game servers or central servers.
There will not be any downtime for Battlelog.

Since the patch is only code changes, it will be fairly small. I don't have the exact size in MB at hand, but expect it to be less than 100MB in size.

Changelist
* Origin wrapper updated
* AlienFX support
* Bugfixes to Eyefinity detection

I stopped using the M26 about a week ago and switched to 870MCS. I went back once after the patch and they might have fixed it, looked like the spread was fixed.

Blah trying to level jet ranks is so inconsistent. Some days I join a server and mow noobs down one after another and get thousands of points. Other days there's a 100-star Colonel pilot that just instagibs anyone who even looks at the jet. Seems like there is hardly anything in between though.

After reading your comment it happened to me tonight... the first two rounds I owned the skies... then a 100-star Colonel that plays nothing but a Jet Pilot jumped on the server and is accountable for 80% of my deaths.., and makes every else on the server rage...LOL... funny though - he is a good pilot...but he always bails his disabled jet in his own jet spawn area...
