do u have two sticks of ram right now?
that score sounds like a single channel set up.

Also, the reason why u can't play battlefield may not be due to ur motherboard, but maybe ur video card?
can u tell us what video card u have as that affects the game greatly. Nowadays, the video card is more important in games than cpu as gpu do most of the calculations.

it's a radeon 9700 pro so I doubt it's taht.

I am pretty sure the game would run like a charm on an AMD setup :)

I just built my first computer and I keep getting the Blue Screen of Death.

I'm running:

Asus P4P800 Deluxe Mobo
P4 2.8C Ghz
2 X 512 DDR Corsair Value Select
Powercolor Radeon 9600 Pro
Western Digital 80GB HD 7200RPM
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Windows XP Professional

At first it kept restarting at odd times, but I replaced the power supply and that stopped. Now I just get the BSOD and Windows suggests I update my device drivers, but that hasn't helped. It has happened while the computer was idle, and while I've been running anything from Microsoft Office to Sim City 4. I updated my Video Card and Sound Card Drivers to no avail. I'm starting to believe that it might be a hardware problem, but as I don't have lots of extra parts to try out, I'm not sure how to narrow it down.

Please help! Even the most basic suggestion would be appreciated.

Check your board for blown capacitors then check out www.badcaps.com. I was having the same problem with my Gigabyte board and had 5 bad ones. That's why I bought this board. It's caused by bad electrolyte formula that was stolen....industrial espionage. All brands of boards are possible victims.

Hey Kerers,

When I built my system I was also getting the blue screen of death a lot. I had no idea what the heck was causing it and I tried everything. I went to safe mode and downloaded SP1 but that didn't even seem to do the trick. Then, after writing down the error code that the BSOD showed, I went to the Internet to look up what it could be.

Turns out that my video card and motherboard doesn't like each other. I had to go to safe mode, disable my display adapter in the Device Manager and then I was able to boot into Windows alright. The only way to fix this constant BSOD problem is for me to update the drivers. It doesn't matter which drivers I used, just as long as they weren't Microsoft's generic ATi Drivers.

It was a crappy problem but at least I figured out a way around it.

hey guys i'm having issues with my mobo.

was able to get it to boot just running with just my agp card in the slot but when i try and put my SB audigy in any of the pci slots the computer will no longer boot up. this is strange because i have tried other pci cards (my pci modem) and that allows me to boot into windows just fine. is there any known issue like this? I've disabled onboard sound...any suggestions? it's been really frustrating trying to get this board to work!

I like this motherboard; however I have problems with installing any sort of large heatsink on my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro because the northbridge heatsink ASUS provides is so tall and close to the AGP slot. I couldn't install a ThermalTake Giant III or a Zalman because of the NB heatsink. Now I got a Arctic Cooling VGA heatsink coming in the mail; lets hope it works out!

Hello all. I am having severe issues with the sound in WinXP. Basically, if I use the onboard sound, soundblaster Live, or soundlbaster 512 (and who knows what else) it takes about 5 minutes to boot windows. After booting into windows, I will eventuially crash after about an hour. The event viewer doesn't report anything. I tried swapping out the card for a friends Turtle Beach card, and it worked perfectly. Anyone know what could be causing this issue? It is extreemly frustrating.

-Chu

P.S., I've tried both PnP and non PnP OS settings

Hey guys,

I have the 865PE non deluxe asus mobo and am having trouble updatig the bios. I update the bios step by step and it says its completed and done properly. Then when I go check the bios version it says the old version. Maybe I am looking at the wrong tab or has anyone had similar problems. Please let me know because I only have two more days to rma it back to newegg and and don't want to get stuck with a malfunctioning mobo.

Thanks,

Triforce

OK, this has got me a little puzzled. I have the P4P800 Deluxe with a 2.4GHz P4 no OC'ing or anything fancy. It's my father in laws PC and he's running XP with ALL the SP1 updates included. The thing that is giving us trouble is the USB2.0 headers. We are trying to hookup a USB2.0 scanner. When it is connected to the rear USB ports the scanner is recognized as a USB2.0 device and works fine. When the scanner is plugged into the front USB ports on the case a Windows error pops up and says the device has malfunctioned. The case is an Antec 2600. Other USB1.1 devices work fine off the front ports. I unfortunately don't have another USB2.0 device to test the front ports. I have tried both sets of headers 5/6 and 7/8 with the same problem. ASUS tech support says the headers are "hosed" and suggests RMA'ing the board. Any ideas out there? The BIOS has NOT been updated and is still at 1005.

There are a lot of misidentifications of the BIOS due to differences in what the file is named and the BIOS update. I can't rememeber the specifics but, for example, my BIOS version is 1.014 and CPU-Z identifies it as 080009. If that's the issue, there's no problem. I've seen a number of posts expressing concern over that inconsistency.

The sound is a fun issue. First, recommended install order is sound drivers dead last in the queue. In fact, for best stability do not install the card until after all the other drivers (including DirectX) are installed. It sounds like there are worse problems than that if the on-board is acting up. I had some problems with my SBLive and HT, but a number of people report success in running it on this board. I'd suggest different PCI slots (slot 4 preferred), but again the onboard issue seems to indicate something more. Try running the extended tests in MemTest to verify there are no memory issues. Also, are you o/c'ing? It might be a bus issue but that's probably grabbing at straws. I've known some people that had some severe conflicts with the card I run (Audigy2) and I have no real problems. More proof that not all these boards are created equal (seems to be a wide variance in manufacturing). You can also play with latencies using PowerStrip just in case you're running a bus hog somewhere. ATI always sets theirs too high, Creative too low, but I'm guessing more along the lines of either memory or a weak Northbridge. Try increasing the VAGP a bit, it seems to fix a number of Northbridge issues (I'm still not sure why, just that when a possible NB issue arises it's my first advice).

Hey, I've had this board for a week now and love it. I'm using a P4 2.66 and 512 megs of Kingston pc2700. I oc'ed it to 150fsb (3.0 ghz) and it's running smooth and stable. I locked the video card in bios and set it to run in turbo mode but that is the only adjustments i've made. I have a PNY fx5900se overclocked to 495/800. How far can I OC this machine and still be stable and what other settings should I adjust to accomplish this? Thnaks in advance.

If anyone could help me out with this it would be great. I just recently got this board and it was working fine till I installed Xp Rc1 on it caused a few issues with Asus live update by just slowing my machine down and it would just crawl till I rebooted.

I finally decided to go back to using Xp SP1. Now whenever I install Liveupdate from the Cd or the one I had which worked it just slows my machine down and it kills my network connection forcing me to reboot.

I've got a 2.8 p4, 1gb pc3200 mushkin ram, TI 4600, 120gb WD hd, sb live audigy 2, dvd drive and a dvd rw. I've tried using liveupdate version 5.20 and then the latest 5.21( I think). I know this worked fine before I loaded RC1 now its back to a clean install and doing the exact same thing. Any suggestions or has anyone seen this kind of thing.

Thanks for all your help.

Buy a Thermaltake Tiger1 northbridge HSF. It will more than likely do the trick for you (it's more narrow, but taller than the stock passive heat sink).

a higher rating ram will work at a slower speed
meaning a 3700 can operate at 3200. Just like a 3200 can run at 2700...

I just got an Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard and the boot time (From when you turn on the computer to the OS loading screen) seems very long. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this kind of problem or if the slow boot time was just a normal trait of the motherboard.

Stryfe13, the onboard NIC is a bit flaky, but the most recent updates seem to have fixed a lot of issues. I tended to get a lot of IRQ sharing with the sound card, which caused both to behave irratically, Past that, you might try asking on this board as there are some people there who really know the P4P800 well:
ABXZone

As far as the long boot... I get that when it's having trouble with the CD-ROM drives. You might check the UDMA status (it will switch to PIO only when it occurs). What's happening is that the IDE RAID can cause errors in reading other channels (specifically, though not limited to the S-ATA channel) since it communicares using similar protocols. Asus claims XP SP2 will solve this problem, but the beta release did not fix it for mine. It also seems to be the issue that causes the drive slow downs which appear on some (but not all) boards. I ended up disabling the IDE RAID, which seems to have solved the issue.

Ok, here's a very basic question for you (more experienced) guys out there:

I have RAID0 set up with 2 Seagate 7200.7 80GB drives. When I set this up, I put them both on the Pri_Raid1 connection in a master/slave arrangement. My transfer rates (per Sandra) pretty much suck for some reason, random read throughput of 28mb/s, random write time of 38mb/s, and random access time of 21ms!! After doing some reading online, it appears that I should have put each of these on its own Raid port instead of piggy-backing them on the same one. My question is this: will I get improved performance with them on separate ports, and is it possible to do this (simply switch the physical connections) without destroying the raid setup currently used (and thus requiring a complete reinstall of Windows)?

Thanks for the assistance!

Just got the p4p800se and tried a 2.8c that ran at 246 fsb 1:1 on my p4c800e deluxe, and am having errors in Memtest at 239 fsb on this board. I'm using the same ram, 2x512 OCZ 3700 Gold, on both.
Also, the MB temp is about 10C higher on the p4p (40C).
Not familiar with this board, is anyone here running this mobo? Not sure if I should RMA?

I am just about to purcahse a new ASUS P4P800/Deluxe board. I am just in the middle of trying to decide what is the best combo for memory. I was going to go with 512megs for now. Should I use 1 stick of 512 or two sticks of 256. Dual channel memory is new to me so I am open to any ideas.
Thank Lewis
