Can the following System Panel Connections be made in correctly

Polarity ???

Power Led
IDE Led
Speaker Connector
Reset SW
ATX Power Switch

Can I test these connections in anyway < I dont have any CPU or ram installed
Just motherboard and PSU are mounted in the case

Yes they are color-coded. Red or light colored (yellow, white, etc) is positive and black (or the other color) is negative. They only way to test them I know of is to power up the system and look at em. I always leave the case open when powering up a new system for the first time for just this reason (and to make sure all the fans are spinning). Just make sure the power switch works, the power LED comes on, the Reset sw works, and the IDE LED works - usually if the IDE LED is in backwards it will come on and stay on always, simply reverse the connector until it only flashes during HDD activity.

Btw I got a response about my USB printer problems from Asus...

They say it's probably an IRQ conflict. Oh Joy. Problem is the only IRQ that is shared is with the USB port and the AGP video card, which of course can not be changed or re-arranged in any way. So I guess I'm fux0red.

I went out and got a PAR cable, that solved the problem :p I don't do that much printing , and the speed seems the same anyway...

Did any of you have problems with TWINX 4000?

While using it, my PC seems ok.
I can also overclock to 3.2Ghz 250FSB 1:1, seemingly fine.

However, I keep getting memory errors.

Manual settings:
FSB 200 (because I figure that I should definitely NOT get errors at this FSB)
1:1 ratio or 400Mhz
AGP/PCI 66/33
VDIMM 2.75
3-4-4-8 8

After 4 passes of memtest, I get 2 errors during test 10.

I tried pulling one DIMM out, and the one left in it started giving me errors at Test 8, Pass 1.

Any suggestions?

well there are 8 usb ports and the controllers have different IRQ's, so can't you just try a different port?

I want to install 2GB of RAM in the P4C800-E. I may want to do a mild overclock on a 3.0c processor.

What RAM is recommended?

Anyone with 2GB installed now?

Stability is important, and I am concerned that loading all 4 slots may cause an issue?

I just built a system with the P4C800-E Deluxe board, and I have a couple of problems. I'm sure I've seen them both mentioned on here before, but I just searched through the threads and couldn't find anything. I figured this might be the right place to ask.

First, I'm getting system freezes, accompanied by the HDD LED on the case being constantly on. These seem to mostly occur when there's a lot of disk activity going on (eg installing from CD), but I've also had one while idling in Windows. It hasn't yet happened when I've had an application running. I have a 120Gb Seagate 7200rpm SATA drive connected through the ICH5R controller; is it worth moving it to the Promise controller and seeing if that makes a difference, or is the problem likely to be elsewhere?

Second, the onboard LAN doesn't seem to be working. I suspect this is a software rather than hardware problem: I've installed the drivers etc and Windows seems happy, recognizes the device, etc. I tried to use it at a LAN last weekend, but when I connect to the switch, no flashy lights, can't connect to anyone else's computers. I assumed it would just work straight off; are there some other settings I need to fiddle with?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

System:
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
P4 2.8Ghz
2 x 512Mb Corsair XMS 3200 TwinX
Seagate Barracuda 120Gb SATA
Enermax 460W PSU
Hercules 3D Prophet 9800 Pro
LiteOn DVD
LiteOn CD-RW
Hercules Fortissimo III sound card
Windows 2000 Professional

I have the P4C800 Dlx with 2GB RAM - using 4 x Corsair CMX512-3200C2 and my system is rock-solid. Let me know if you want to know BIOS settings, etc. (although none of this may be applicable to your 'E' board).

I was looking at maybe trying some overclocking, i've been running stock without any problems, besides a faulty Audigy2 Platinum that was causing system reboots, Its been a great rig.

Anyone got some suggestions comments about cooling..
Currently i'm using the first revision of the P4 3Ghz Retail Heatsink, i say first revision because my friend got a replacement shortly after we got our because he fried his... and they sent him back another kind of heatsink.
Basiclly mine has a nickel or quarter size copper plate over the proc and the rest is aluminum fins arranged in a cross pattern.. those who have it know what i mean.. My retail box was packaged in Jun, first ones to ship got it not even a month old :) wnyhow my friends new one is a larger rectangle copper bottom with aluminum fins arranged parellel to each other. His doesnt seem to be cooling the same, both of us havent applied the thermal paste as of yet.

As for my plans...
I was looking to replace the retail setup with a Zalman CNPS7000-Cu (http://www.zalman.co.kr/usa/product/cnps7000cu.htm)
Which is said to perform better than the Thermaltake Spark 7+

I wasnt sure what to replace the stock Asus northbridge HS with,
I found the Thermaltake Tiger 1, which i think might work on the Asus P4C800 Dlx (http://www.thermaltake.com/products/chipset/tiger.htm)

Then i was thinking of using Thermaltakes Active Memory cooling, (http://www.thermaltake.com/products/memory/activekits.htm)

Along with a set of passive memory heatspreaders for the 2nd module which comes with some Heatsink stick that would go on my 9800 Pro's memory modules. I couldnt find anything besides the huge Zalman fanless heatsink for the 9800..

I thought about HDD cooling but wasnt sure of what to get.

Anything else i should look at... noise really doesnt bother me.. i'd rather have performence than the risk of a noiseless heatsink yanking my cpu out or videocard out or something when i move the computer

>I'm running "idle" at around 29 celcius (84 F).

is your computer turned on ???

I'm just kidding, but it was 32c outside here today and 29 ambient inside. do you have water cooling or something.

My little nephew tells me my board is broken? lol

I dont have water cooling, I'm using one of those full copper cnsp7000cu coolers from zalman.

At this moment my cpu temp is 25 celcius (77 F) and my mb is 27 celcius (80 F). Really seems a bit 2 low hhm.

This is really strange, I had the Abit IS7-E a few weeks back which gave a reading of arround 45 celcius and now this on the Asus.

Have you guys that are having these problems gotten them fixed yet? I'm thinking of getting the 800-E Deluxe. Does anyone know any issues with it and GeIL Ultra Platinum PC4000? Have any of you tried the Vdimm mod yet?
Thanks.

Folks
What gives, eh? I went out today to find the 'E' revision but couldn't find any - all local shops were selling 'D's. I asked 2 of these shops (the most up-to-date ones) and they both told me 'supplier' doesn't want to ship in 'E's yet, no news when these are coming'. While the Abit Max3 have started to arrive. What does Asus gain from this policy? Maybe I'll just buy the Abit Max3 or IC7G, what do you folks recommend? Will it be worth waiting for 2 more months for the E version?

Maybe you are looking at the wrong item. The board is called "P4C800-E Deluxe" maybe the D is for Deluxe?

I don't think you have to wait. I bought mine on 7/25 (shipped a few days later) from : www.antarescomputinginc.com

I only have the 4 ports on the rear installed, I tried the printer on all 4 ports, with or without any other USB devices installed, it didn't work. I didn't try installing the other 4 port doohicky.

Of course Windows XP shows up to about 22 IRQ's, which I assume is some new "virtual" IRQ scheme, but who knows what is really going on at the hardware level. At this point, everything works great I'm not about to mess with it, the parallel cable was the easiest solution.... weird though huh? It could just be the printer doesn't like the newer USB 2.0 standard, it is 3-4 years old.

quick question

i know there are two realy good intel boards out from asus. One of them is the p4p and the other p4c. I am aware that the c has the newer chipset 875 but besides that, are there any other differences. Planning on building one so is the 60 buck difference worth it (130 for p4p and 190 for p4c). Thanks

stickybytes, P4C800-E Deluxe has CSA LAN, ECC memory support, and ICH5R SATA ports. There is a non E version that lacks either the ICH5R or CSA, or both....can't recall. P4P has no CSA LAN and no ECC. As to which is faster; depends on what review website you go to. Some say the 865 version, some say the 875 version.

Jonsio, just go to Pricewatch.com and you'll see several places that have it. Prices are going up on these. Cheapest place right now is $187 shipped in USA here .

So....can anyone answer this?

computer, if i were you i'd go for the p4c800. the E has just the newer extras you pointed out. dont know in what way these would influence overclocking, only extra expenses?!?
temp readings might be a problem. the highest i've hit was 35 celcius after playing some unreal. that would have been around 52 celcius on the abit is7-e.
still havent had any reaction of other temps people get. you guys install the probe for god sakes :p

No, they are not going to affect O'clocking, however the ICH5R is needed and very important to HD performance. The non E has the SATA on an old IC5H. Also if you plan on using some PCI cards and are on broadband, the CSA LAN is going to help your PCI bus from getting saturated. Dialup users aren't going to need the CSA LAN, but they are going to need the ICH5R hub. Everyone would benefit from it.

Have any of you checked the temperature readings via software, like Sandra or other hardware monitoring utility and see if they are same as the BIOS shows?
